Hi All -
I was wondering if anyone introduced a sippy cup to a 5 month old? We started oatmeal cereal the other day and a couple people have mentioned that they also then introduced a sippy cup.

My son's adjusted age (he was born 3 months early) was 6 months when I gave it to him, so it's worth trying. I knew he was ready for it because he studies us when we drink out of a cup. He immediately took to it!

Every child is different of course but I think about 6 months is good since that is when a lot of people start solids. We were bottle feeding at 6 months and then put water in the sippy for her at about 7 or 8 months? It took her a while to get into the sippy and so you might have to experiment with different ones.

My pediatrician told me to introduce a sippy cup at around 4.5 months. She said my baby probably wouldn't drink out of it, but it was good to let her hold it and fling water around. -.-
My LO's 7 months old now, and I just hold a cup to her mouth. Will probably re-introduce the sippy cup soon though.

I had sippy cups around the house for a long time and Mavrick would hold them but didn't drink from them until 9 months. (late bloomer) I found the soft spout sippy cups helped transitioning him from bottle to cup.

We still haven't done it, at 10 months. We'll probably skip the entire sippy cup thing anyway, I hate seeing toddlers with those things attached to their mouths, and do an open cup. I also don't want to be a slave to a certain brand with a certain type of straw that you can only find at one Walmart in a 100 mile radius and have to deal with the meltdowns that ensue!

We introduced it with solids around 6 mos. She's still using them @ 11 mos but I think we'll transition to a regular cup (maybe with a straw) soon.....although I'm kinda lazy to start cause I'm dreading the mess, lol.

We started at six months when we started solids. We skipped the sippy though and went to a straw cup... I've heard it's better for speech development (not that a sippy is bad), and Finn liked it better.

we introduced it at 6 months, but the straw cup was much easier for charlie to master at that young age. once he was older, he preferred the traditional sippy cups over the straw cups.

My daughter is 5 months and freaking loves cups. I dont really want her to fill up on water so I dont give it to her much and she hasnt figured out how to use it herself but she likes drinking from cups.

We introduced the sippy at 3.5 months when we introduced juice for bowel movements. We have made sure to offer him many different brands and cups in general. He can drink from a glass we hold to his lips, a soft sippy, a straw cup and he loves his kids camelbak. We drink out of camelbaks a lot so he learned from us.
