Both of us work and live 30-45 minutes from work. When our lo goes to school, we won't be home when she gets out of school. Our district offers after school care - track out. I hate thinking she'll be in that all summer long instead of playing but, what can you do if you both work?
Have you thought about this? What do you plan on doing if both of you work full time outside the home?

I'm a SAHM now, but I'm going to have to go back to work when my LO is in school. I'm hoping only part time so I can be there when she gets home.

The wonderful thing about both parents being teachers 
If anything were to happen (meetings, etc.), our parents are planning to live only 20-30 minutes from us.

For the summers when they are school age it's off to Poland to stay with my husbands family.
During the school year I guess an after school program.

We plan to move back home to mass before our kids are in school. My MIL, FIL, and SIL all work for the school system so they will help with after school and summer care. My dad also only works until 2 or 3 so we have it made : )

We had summer camps. So during the school year we would stay after school until my mom picked us up, but when school was out, we were in summer camps and we'd be home by 5ish.

We'll be putting her in daycare for after school, they have a program where the bus drops her off after school at the daycare centre and we can pick her up after work. If we're lucky, either my mom or DH's mom will just retire already and they can go to Grandmas!

We were latch key kids growing up. But for our LO, both of our parents are fifteen min away. My mom is also going to be my LO primary caretaker when I go back to work.

@Ms.SK: that is a pretty awesome way to spend summers!
I've never honestly given this much thought yet. My ILs will be back by then so hopefully they'll watch them after school?? As for summers probably camp of some sort??

We'll probably have them in afterschool care or hire a part time nanny - our elementary school is in the same town as a university so I bet I could find a college student who would be interested. I'm more worried about kindergarten, which is only half day - how in the world do working parents manage that?? And we aren't guaranteed to get either morning or afternoon, just have to wait and see and make arrangements once we are assigned.

If I'm still working from home most of the time, it hopefully won't be a problem. But I may find babysitters/a daycare just so I can have more time to work!
@mamabolt: If possible, I'd look for a full-day kindergarten in your area, they're better for kids' education anyway!

We're currently switching from a daycare center to an in-home nanny now that #2 is on the way. When interviewing we're making sure the nanny would be agreeable to putting on/getting off the bus for us.

I'm hoping at least one grandparent will be in the area by then, retired... it would be so nice for the kids to be picked up by grandma every day and do their homework at grandma's until we get home from work. But if not, we'll pay for after school programs.
Best case scenario is I can work mother's hours and pick them up every day, but not too sure that is feasible!!

My mom works in the school system in the next town over, so she'll be able to watch them after school. She's already said she'd pick them up from daycare at 3:00 so future LO doesn't have to be there for 10 hours a day! I'm not even preg yet though, so we're talking at least 5+ years - hopefully she'll be retired by then.
