My eldest child (7 years old/second grade) is at the point where she has daily homework for school. It should take us no more than 15 minutes a day, but is currently taking a lot longer. I think it's in part due to all the distractions she faces (younger siblings being loud, me bustling around the kitchen, proximity to the playroom where her stuff she hasn't seen all day is located, etc.)

I think it would help to give her a designated place to do her homework. Currently she's wanting to work at the kitchen island or table - she'd like to be near me, she needs ocassional help (moreso with staying on task and doing her best than with the actual work - I find she gets distracted and starts playing with toys or starts just doing really lazy work - not reading directions, etc. - if I'm not around)...and I don't like the idea of "banishing" her to her bedroom. I'm considering a desk in our office (near the kitchen), but not sure if that will really meet our needs.

Anyone else facing a situation like this? Where does your child go to do his or her homework? I feel like it's not the end of the world now...I can ultimately stop what I'm doing for 15-30 minutes and coax her through/try to silence the siblings/help her maintain focus...but that's not going to be possible as her assignments get longer and her siblings start having work as well.
