Where is the weirdest/craziest place you've nursed your LO?

Last weekend we went to a bbq and were stuck in horrendous traffic on the freeway. There was no shoulder for me to pull into, and Olive was screaming her head off because she was hungry. Since we were barely moving, I nursed her while driving!

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

Where is the weirdest/craziest place you've nursed your LO?

    Hahaha that's awesome!

Once I went back to work a few weeks ago, DH started bringing LO to me during lunch so I can nurse her. We nurse in the car, in a corner of a parking lot (not my work parking lot!). It's a little weird, but eh... the windows are tinted

While throwing up, in the emergency room with a kidney infection. Yes, while.

wait...YOU were driving and nursing?! Or you were in the passenger seat?

Wow! My stories are nowhere near that interesting. The most interesting was probably on a (very windy) pier over a lake--so I couldn't use a cover.

on a farm in Queens, NY! DD 1 had a school field trip last fall to a pumpkin patch/farm. i nursed DD 2 on the school bus with probably about 20 other toddlers and another newborn on board. i also nursed at the farm while the kids had lunch... and while taking pics of my DD on her first pony ride.

i've also taken her out of the carseat in traffic and fed her, but I wasn't driving. i'm huge on carseat safety, but we were going at a snail's pace, she was screaming her head off and refused the bottle. yes, you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes!

@sweetchic: i was driving! not in the passenger seat. and i even drove by the accident/police (the very next lane) that was causing the traffic while i was nursing!

Mrs. Bee: I've done that before. It's not very comfortable, I might add!

The weirdest might be ski slope for me

@pastemoo: i just had her in my lap and was driving with one hand, and supporting her head with my other arm. it wasn't hard.... i was just afraid of getting caught!

In a shoe store. We were waiting in line at a restaurant next door, outside in the sun, and LO was getting fussy. So I went into the empty store and asked if I could sit down to feed him. They were cool with it.

@Mrs. Bee: Amazing! How did you even get her out of her carseat from the front?!

Oooh, Mrs. Bee... I misread you. I wasn't driving. I was nursing her while she was in her car seat which was tres uncomfortable for me, but did the trick. I bow down to you and am glad that there wasn't much movement going on with traffic.

@Mrs. Jacks: I did that because I was DESPERATE. It was awful. I was in so much pain, and couldn't be buckled in otherwise I couldn't reach him.

I nursed him while brushing my teeth and doing my makeup. We were running late, so I held him football position in one arm and did the rest with my other arm.

    lots of dressing rooms too!

@Coco Bee: I know, right. It takes serious desperation to do what we did!

I don't know if pumping counts, but last week I was at a meeting at a hotel and I needed to pump. The only place they could give me that locked was a GIANT ballroom that was set up for an event, but wasn't being used until later in the day. I just huddled up next to an outlet in the middle of the room and prayed that a waiter didn't decide to try to bust in.

The shower, in his carseat (we were supposed to be leaving but it took too long so I just nursed him while he was buckled).

The coolest was probably next to a nursing momma bear statue.

Wowee! You crazy mama! LOL! I don't think anyone can top that! Me, in our steam shower when Nicholas had a horrible cold around 7 months. I nurse Skyler everywhere I go now, mostly in restaurants for some odd reason.

@Mrs. Bee: omg you were driving too?! That is crazy! Reminds me of the Britney drama with her first son, lol. I'd be afraid because my LO is so active and always distracted while nursing... she might grab the wheel too! Ahhh! Glad you guys are ok.

lol crazy! i would have switched seats with the passenger! the craziest place i've breastfed.... HOME! lol. my husband would rather me feed the kids formula than breastfeed in public.

there was this ONE instance where i went to a wedding and had to pump, so i went to the car. apparently, i didn't put any batteries in the adapter so no pump. my hubby used his hands to squeeze 5oz of milk. coulda squeeze more but my boobs felt better hehe.

    Just this past week:
    At a waterfall
    While hiking
In a moving car on a back country road (he was strapped into his seat)
    While blueberry picking

I felt like I should take photos of these. It felt like a total breakthrough for breastfeeding on demand week for me!

I have pumped while driving, it was embarrassing since it turned out I had to pay a parking attendant too.. Oh well. For nursing, i did nurse in moving car (passenger) and the restaurant where i felt most self conscious was a pho restaurant.

couple weeks ago we were at a walking park and DH was trying to get him to sleep in the beco and he was just crying and crying so I whipped out my boob and fed him while DH had him in the beco lol it was quite the feat.

I've done the in the carseat move too We were on the bridge from PEI back to the mainland, and there is no shoulder/stopping. Prettybaby was beside herself so I climbed back and draped myself across her/her car seat. She was very happy, I was crazy uncomfortable!

  32. Freckles

    honeydew / 7444 posts

@prettylizy: I did that while driving down to the mountains. She was still buckled in and i basically draped my body over the car seat...of course, i didn't realize that when i was done we had arrived in town so i'm pretty sure people were staring!!

Call me crazy, but am I the only one who sees an issue on this thread? Why are people celebrating BF while driving? Active driving? With no safety measures for the baby? That's irresponsible, not "awesome."

The biggest concern was getting caught? My priorities might be out of line, but my biggest concern would be getting us all home safely. Getting rear ended is no joke, even if you think "nothing will happen." As vile as it is, I'd rather give my baby a soda.

@Fidolover: Just curious. We certainly would never have guessed we'd ever make this decision. With the benefit of hindsight, we wouldn't make it again. At the time, it felt like exigent circumstances.

I'm not trying to be offensive, and I apologize if it seems that way, but my feathers get a little ruffled when I see or hear of defenseless kids being put in danger's way. It's one of those maternal instincts coming out.

@Fidolover: I may not choose to do it myself, but that doesn't mean I'm going to publicly criticize other's parenting decisions.

    Parenting is very personal.

@Arden: Yeah, but the law isn't personal, and it's certainly not a cogent choice. Breaking the law to fit your parenting style doesn't fly.
