I have this white spot on one of my nipples. The spot is sensitive to the touch, and it hurts a bit when I nurse. I thought it was a milk blister, but that doesn't seem to be it because I've tried to scrub it off and its still there.
It looks like the spot has gotten a little bigger over the last week or so. Anyone know what this could be?

When I had a milk blister I had to pop it with a needle.

Same as @Mrs. Pickle: I always had to use a needle. Are you having any engorgement?
Dangle nursing also helps a lot

Could be a plugged duct! I would work on that in the shower. Do you know how to hand express? When I got those, I would stand in the warm shower for a few minutes, then use a wide toothed comb to work at the plug from behind while I hand expressed.

I had luck softening it with a hot washcloth and then immediately let LO nurse - he would pop it

I had this and it was yeast/thrush. Can you call your ob and speak to a nurse? I needed an antibiotic prescribed to clear it up. Edited to add: my dd also had a diaper rash that wasn't clearing up so we both got treated. Both things cleared right up.

@BakersWife: can it still be thrush if my LO doesn't have it? What does it look like?

@Pumpkin Pie: I think that your lo could have symptoms and you could be symptom free and vice versa, but I'm not sure. For me it looked like a white-ish spot but it wasn't a perfect circle. I had googled milk blister and thought it could be that, but when I saw the nurse practitioner she immediately said it was yeast. I would definitely give your ob a call and just describe your symptoms and see what they say. Sorry you're dealing with this!

I had a milk blister/plugged duct and the part on my nipple was a white thing, but more like a white blackhead than a blister. I soaked my nipple in a cup of pretty hot salt water a few times and it finally softened up. It wasn't what I thought it would be like.
When I have had thrush it was super painful to nurse and my nipples were red, but never white. Also LOs only symptom was diaper rash that would not clear.

Anyone know if it could be vasospasm? I looked it up online and looks like it could be out, bit don't know what that exactly means. Sent a message to my OB and still haven't heard back.

like some others sad, this was always the sign of a plugged duct for me. I scrubbed with a wet washcloth in the shower and massaged into it basically came loose... there was always a lot of milk backed up behind it! be ready to catch a few ounces, haha.

@Pumpkin Pie: Vasospasms are where the whole middle of the nipple goes white. It's pretty painful but usually the pain happens after you nurse (like a burning, throbbing pain).

Sounds like a bleb (milk blister). Don't pop it! Just treat it with a warm compress. Look it up on Kelly Mom.

@CatchAFallingStar: I've had it for a fewhile days and still nursing, but it won't go away. Wouldn't a milk blis terrible go away if continued nursing?

I had nipple thrush that my LO never got. My thrush made my nipples bright pink but not painful so not exactly the same thing but it's definitely possible for your LO to not get oral thrush or thrush in the diaper area while you have it.

@CatchAFallingStar: @Pumpkin Pie: Agree sounds like a bleb! I had one, and it lasted a good week. What finally helped was a warm compress, along with a cotton ball with some apple cider vinegar on it that i kept in my bra when not nursing. I remember reading that somewhere, and after a day of doing that, it worked!! It burned a little bit, and I would often just keep the cotton ball on for 10-15 minutes, that I think that helped loosen the skin, and finally one time when DD was nursing, it popped. That was glorious.

I had a white spot on my right nipple.....was definitely a bleb. Nursing was sore but after about 24 hours of persisting DD popped it guzzler the backed up milk.
Now, I also have a little white spot on my left nipple that has been there for months with no pain or symptoms. It would have turned into mastitis by now if something was really blocked I think. I don't know what it is......but just wanted to share that this is my normal.

I kept getting these blebs in one spot on my nipple, and I would have to have a hot shower then pick at the top layer of it with tweezers. Then I could express it a bit by hand to relieve the pain. Eventually that duct dried up I think.
