Who breast feeds?

    @littleblessings: I had the exact same fears at 10 months. I just couldn't fathom how we would ever get to a point where weaning wouldn't lead to massive meltdowns. I'm still pretty surprised but thank you for your kind words! I always build things up in my head to be terrible & she always surprises me!

    I nursed dd for 20 months. We weaned because we were ttc, but it turned out I was already three weeks preggo anyway! Dd will be 2 on 12/15 ... I'm hoping to nurse #2 just as long or longer, but we will see how everything works out!

    One year with my first child, still nursing second child, my kids are 17 months apart--I dried up when I was pregnant with number 2.

    @littleblessings: if I were you, I would go for a drink or two. Kelly mom says that 1-2 drinks does not affect a nursing baby & if you do not feel physically affected by the alcohol, you are fine to nurse. Attaching link; http://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/lifestyle/alcohol/

    Enjoy your birthday!

    LO was EBF til a year. Then we introduced WCM and dropped to nursing morning and night only. She weaned completely at around 13.5 months. She's now 16 months.

    @Mrs. Sunshine: I'm hoping DS surprises me too. He has meltdowns right now when I use the bathroom and won't feed him in there. /:
    @MarieJ: thanks I will try. I like that link. Very informative. SO will be happy to hear that he won't have to drink alone on his 21st.
    @Kemma: did your milk come back? 25 months, wow. Congrats!
    @avivoca: when did the feeding a drop to 2 a day?

    I'm still breastfeeding at least 4x a day. My daughter is turning 18 months in a few days and shows no sign of weaning any time soon.

    @littleblessings: yeah I was so mad only because I suffered through the whole first tri sore boobs and breastfeeding and then to dry up...gahhhh. My doctor said it's totally common to dry up during pregnancy! Who knew?

    Still nursing at 12.5 months. I'm pregnant, so I think we'll be weaning in the next couple of months.

    @littleblessings: I am going to throw my pump out the window as soon as my ped lets me transition to WCM, which will probably be around 10 months.

    Not sure about nursing though. I will at least offer to nurse in the morning and at bedtime til sometime between 12-15 months. I will not be too sad if he self-weans though because I am getting tired of it.

    I nursed my oldest, Ellie, until she was 5. I am still nursing Lorelei who is 32 months. I battled supply issues both times, but was able to nurse almost exclusively the second time (we used an at-breast SNS a handful of times in the early days with formula).

    @littleblessings: Well, my long-term BFing goal was a year, and after that I stopped pumping (I didn't pump much anyway because I was a SAHM at the time and never needed much extra...). By 15 months he was down to 1 session a day, maybe 2, all at night/very early morning (more comfort than anything). Then he got sick for the first time and couldn't latch on because he was so congested. Since I wasn't pumping anymore my supply dried up (it was already pretty low by then). He asked for it once after he was well and we were both sad that it was over, but that was the only time (for him, anyway, I still get pangs of nostalgia for it sometimes).

    So he kind of weaned himself? Even though it was less by choice and more by circumstance. I don't think it would have lasted much longer, though. I hadn't wanted to make the decision to wean, I had wanted it to come from him.

    @littleblessings: I'm currently NTNP, but since I had ovulation trouble before getting pregnant, I'm not optimistic on getting pregnant or even a period again while BF... we will start officially trying at a year.

    I'm still nursing my 17.5 month old. I'm hoping he'll self wean but I'm not holding out hope! I'm almost 10 weeks pregnant and would like a little break between nursing babies!!

    @fairy: are you planning on weaning at some point?
    @matador84: I always though you would produce more while pregnant. Lol
    @lilteacherbee: are you gonna be doing the weaning or are you expecting LO to self wean?@ElbieKay: I feel you. Can't wait to introduce WCM so maybe I can have some time to myself. Lol
    @catomd00: congrats. Good to hear you plan on LO self weaning.
    @Rockies11: has your supply dropped at all?
    @Mrs. Twine: wow that's a long time to breast feed. How many feedings a day does LO do now?
    @lovehoneybee: I see. The circumstances were unfortunate. Does LO seem to miss it?
    @pui: well that sounds like a good plan. If you fall pregnant while still BF would you stop BF or continue?
    @Leah: how many teeth? Have you been bit?
    @Blueberry: how could you tell LO was weaning?
    @QBbride: I completely understand. If LO doesn't self wean, when do you plan to start weaning?
    @HLK208: what was your biggest problem when Bf?
    @Adira: I bet you can do it. Congrats on the nb. He's adorable. Saw pics on the Dec labor watch thread.
    @californiadreams: yay extended BF!!! So you plan on weaning?
    @erinpye: did they ever bite you?

  30. littleblessings

    @anonysquire: good luck tandem. I would tandem nurse too. Tried tandem after DS was born but DD refused.

    pear / 1739 posts

    @MrsRcCar: a year is a good goal!
    @anonysquire: luck to you!
    @erinpye: owwwww teeth. DS is cutting his first teeth. I'm terrified!

  35. HLK208

    pineapple / 12234 posts

    @littleblessings: hmm, the biggest challenge with my first was the inconvenience of being out in public and finding a private place for a nursing session. With my second, I had to exclusively pump for the first 8 weeks since DD's latch was terrible at first but we would try once a day and finally, she got the hang of it. This time, nursing has been great but DD2 spits up A LOT which makes me feel like formula would be easier. Also, I've been sick a lot since DD2 was 2 months old so she's gotten a small amount of every medication I've been on

    @littleblessings: E has almost 8 teeth. I have only been bit once. He is a total boob monster.

    @littleblessings:
    DS 1 would take a bottle no problem- tommee tippee brand
    DS 2 never takes a bottle. We have tried 3 different kinds starting at 2 weeks and he's refused all of them.

  38. mrskc

    bananas / 9357 posts

    @littleblessings: I got pregnant and dried up. But he still wanted to dry nurse. We were down to just nursing before nap. I started giving him a bottle of warm milk and he never asked to nurse after that. It was an easy transition but then we had to deal with bottle weaning. It wasn't that bad tho.

  39. littleblessings

    pear / 1739 posts

    @HLK208: I had a huge latch problem with DS I the beginning. /: it was awful. All better now though.
    @MrsRcCar: we call DS a boobie monster too!
    @Aandmklover: DD would only take Tommee Tippee but DS doesn't like any bottles. I've tried 6 different brands of bottles.
    @mrskc: sounds like a pretty easy transition.
