My sister just gave birth in August and this hospital really recommends it. First I've ever heard about it and I definitely looked more into it.
Did you or anyone you know do it??

I've read about it and definitely plan to do a lot of skin-to-skin time.
I'd been looking at getting a NuRoo Pocket shirt to wear around home, but couldn't justify the price until a bee posted that they were on sale at TJ Maxx for $25-$30. Nice! Now if only there was a "manlier" version for DH to wear. Looks like he and LO will just have lots of shirtless snuggle time instead.

Oh yeah, it was incredibly important to me that LO received lots of skin to skin time as a newborn - studies show so many benefits.
I wore her topless in a moby wrap sometimes, but for the first few days we usually just snuggled in bed together, with her on my chest. DH did it too, when I needed to sleep.

My small town hospital even implemented a program to encourage kangaroo care in the past year, so it must be gaining momentum. It also included the baby staying with you 24/7 from birth to discharge, which was a huge change for the hospital. The program wasnt in place when I gave birth, but they had already started encouraging lots of skin to skin when I was there.

I never heard it referred to as "kangaroo care", only as "skin to skin", but I know that it's highly recommended by my doctor, pediatrician and hospital.

My LO was in the NICU for a week and we did a lot of kangaroo care. She was so warm and cuddly, one of the few good memories during that stressful time.

@court_schaeff: I delivered at a Cleveland Clinic Hospital (Fairview) and we did Kangeroo Care. It was extremely important to me. With my c-section I couldn't do it right away but DH did.

We did a lot of this when we were at the hospital! DS was itty bitty (4lbs 13oz) and was having a hard time regulating his own body temp so we did a lot of skin-to-skin and to promote him getting used to my scent so we could breast feed. I absolutely loved that time. It felt so empowering to be able to warm my baby that way and promote our bond. He's 4 months now, and I still love having skin-to-skin time after he bathes or when we change his clothes after a big spit up.

My oldest was in the NICU 11 years ago (yes you read that read 11 years, OMG) and they were doing kangaroo care then. Definitely believe in the research behind it!

Our hospital encouraged lots of skin to skin, and we definitely did lots of cuddling during the first few weeks.

@ladybee: that's where my sister gave birth! That's the one near north olmstead right? Because I remember leaving and going to Babies R Us.
I had never heard of it until she was at that hospital. I really would like to do it. I'm sure its wonderful bonding (:

Yes! I was happy my hospital advocated it! I spent the first few weeks topless with DD.

yep! i have several friends who are NICU nurses and we did a ton of skin to skin when DD was a newborn.
