I am not at this point yet, but have been asking a lot of my "mommy" friends about it - general experience seems to be that, after weaning the pump, they were able to nurse at wake up and bedtime for as long as they/LO wanted or until they got pregnant again.

I dropped to just one pump at work when LO was 13 months, and my supply tanked. My let down had been getting progressively slower so LO was frustrated when he was trying to nurse so I just quit over the next few days. My LO was never really a comfort nurser though, I don't think he cared at all when we stopped (which hurt my feelings actually!)

@mediagirl: What did you do on the weekends during the transition period? M isn't ready to have full bottles of just milk yet. Should I pump on the weekends so we can give her combo bottles until she's totally on wcm?

@MamaMoose: ah, during transition, I would nurse her during those times. Do you have any stash you could use? I was so done with pumping towards the end, I quit whatever sessions I could as quickly as possible.

DS has 1 nursing session in the morning and drinks almond milk throughout the day. He'll be one in a week. We started the transition 1.5 wks ago to almond milk. I stopped pumping two wks ago. No hinderance on AM nursing session. and little to no discomfort throughout the day.

I nursed about six months after stopping pumping and probably could have gone longer.

@MamaMoose: how old is she again? I'm sorry...I know she's around 1 but I can't remember her birthday (shame on me).

I stopped pumping a little over a month ago (LO was about 11.5 months) and my supply quickly regulated to the morning and evening feeds. We're still doing those nursing sessions for the time being, I haven't decided when we'll stop.

I stopped pumping right after his birthday. We're still nursing just fine two months later. I'm pretty sure it's mostly comfort & only one is a really "good" session. Most of his nutrition is coming from table food & cows milk.

@mediagirl: so her room actually transitioned from an infant room to a toddler room this week. They are giving her milk in a sippy cup once a day and bottles twice a day. She takes it from the sippy cup no problem, and she hasn't noticed the cow's milk mixed into her Breastmilk. But I'm nervous she won't take cows milk straight!

@MamaMoose: I did half and half and when she drank that no problem, I just went cold turkey. She didn't care! I would just cut one pump out a week. Your supply should handle it just fine. You may be uncomfortable for a day or two but it gets better fast! It's totally different for everyone but just go with your gut. That's the best real advice I can offer. On weekends, let her nurse when you would pump, if you want to. If I remember correctly I did "don't offer, don't refuse" at just before and just after 1 year.

Following! I'm planning to stop pumping next month when DD turns one but continue to nurse morning, night and MOTN. I can't wait to be DONE with the pump and throw it against the wall.
