Yikes. Crazy story. It should be interesting to see how that plays out.

I read your post this morning and I've been thinking about it all day and it really has freaked me out! Based on what the article says happened to the woman, I cannot believe this place hasn't been sued before.

Honestly, up until the end, where people were holding her down, my first LO's birth was strangely similar. I had a choice of hospitals to deliver at, because my OBs office delivers at 3. I chose one that was closer to home that SAID they were now try to get accreditation to be a "mother baby friendly hospital". In the tour, they said everything I wanted to hear, and the actual experience was NOTHING like that.
I wrote about it in the follow up paperwork they mailed me and YELPd it. I'll even put my real yelp account on here, because it's so similar to what this woman experienced. http://www.yelp.com/biz/palisades-medical-center-north-bergen?hrid=C0EU5yWlgv_gRfqDj57Ssg&utm_campaign=www_review_share_popup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct)

That is pretty crazy. I agree, it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

When I hear anti-hospital stories I usually tend to think about things from the dr/hospital point of view..but this just sounds crazy.

@Anagram: I totally remember reading this review last year as I was researching hospitals to deliver at. It stuck out to me. So sorry you went through that experience. Sounds very traumatic.

It made me think about the role of advertising in healthcare. Advertising prescription drugs has been in the news lately as drs speak up against it.
But I dont quite understand how Drs and nurses aren't caught up on standard practices. With my second I had 2 residents and a nurse offer me sudafed even though I wanted to breastfeed exclusively. All of them were very nice about me asking about alternatives but all acted like it was brand new knowledge that it can interfere with breastfeeding. Also the lack of info given to women is a problem and of course women are going to search elsewhere. There was an abnormality on my 2nd ultrasound. When we were told that the OB just kinda laughed and said just don't google it and that was the amount of info we were given. And I just thought of course I'm going to go google and pubmed the shit out of it you f'ing condescending prick. It's a very weird atmosphere of not wanting to give women info about their births. I understand to some extent no ones going to become an OB expert in 9 months but the best experience I had was when I knew the resident personally and she talked to me like I was a rational human being. Although I only knew her casually being able to ask her questions without hearing a condescending tone made me trust her way more than any other DR I encountered.

@Maysprout: I have been told not to google too. I think it came from the right place though, in my case. Regarding sudafed, I'm pretty sure it's only a certain type that makes you dry up. I tried to dry up with sudafed and realized later I was using the wrong one...

@2littlepumpkins: Maybe phenylephrine isn't as potent at drying as pseudoephedrine, but I think both aren't recommended especially in the early days of establishing milk production. I have no idea which they planned to give. The residents both said 'oh that might be a problem' and the nurse said she had no idea it was an issue and then found an alternative.
As for dont Google, if that's what they're going to say then some info needs to be given other than a one sentence vague we found this on the ultrasound its sometimes associated with major problems and then laugh about wanting more info.

@Anagram: thank you for sharing your review. I'm going to look up my hospital's reviews now. Stories likes this may be the reason doulas are so popular. I don't think I can count on DH to force a care issue because he would think the medical expert must be right in the situation.

@Anagram: I'm so sorry for what you went through. Labour is such a vulnerable time for a woman. To have a nurse seemingly bullying you is terrible.
My heart also goes out to this pie woman. I can't imagine having someone holding me down during labour or trying to push my baby back inside! I had read reviews online for my hospital's birth centre, and my experience matched others, with once exception. A few of the people online complained that their nurses and doctors spoke mostly French and they weren't sure what was going on at all times (it's a French hospital, but they are mandated to provide care in either official language). I didn't find that at all, but I'm bilingual, so just may not have noticed.
