I would be pissed!! Were the other people in the room? That can't be legal they made you do that

Um, yes, I'd be pissed! HR knows you use their office to pump so it's totally not cool that they were closed to you during your time! Did you knock on the door?? Did you shoot off a nasty e-mail to them?

Maybe you should get a power converter for your car so you can pump in your car should something like this ever happen again? Might be less awkward than doing it in a room where people are! Yikes!

That would bother me, especially because it's HR. It's their job to make sure you are accommodated and they were the ones who messed you up!

After a long battle I pump in an empty office (search my posts for the full story). The room is within a suite of offices though. I pump twice a day. Last Friday that office apparently all took the day off because the whole place was dark and locked. I went to security to get them to open it up for me and security was out of their office! So frustrating.
My pump room itself has been locked several times and I hate having to bother people to open it for me. So awkward.

@MarieJ: Ugh, I would be LIVID. Did you call them or send them an e-mail asking what was up? And that in the future if you will be unable to use the room for pumping, can they PLEASE let you know in advance so you can try to find an alternative location? Although ACTUALLY, THEY should find you the alternative location! It shouldn't be up to you to figure that out!!

I would be more then annoyed! I would be writing out my complaint, that way it is well thought out and professional.

Horrible! Why couldn't they open the door for you? I would feel degraded and would be livid.

@MarieJ: I wouldn't think a room with other people in it is acceptable either. The laws may actually be a little ambiguous about what room needs to be provided. But I would think "privacy" is an implicit requirement.

@MarieJ: email whichever HR person was supposed to coordinate this for you and copy as many high up people (director of hr, company president, your boss) as possible. Do it today. You need the written record and you need everyone to know this is wrong. Nothing changes for me until I went up to the highest possible person.

you should def write up something! i'd be more than annoyed!!!

I would be SUPER annoyed. I would definitely write an email. You'd think HR would be aware of the rules, jeez!

YIKES. I would be furious if I had to pump in a room with others! Talk about uncomfortable for all (especially you!)
