We were thinking of taking A to midnight mass tomorrow but she's on a huge bottle strike - angry screaming, the works. She's only 6 weeks old so I can't predict when she'll get hungry but I'd feel a bit odd breastfeeding in a church. Have you? Would you?

I went to a funeral when P was about 8 weeks old. I didn't have anyone that I wanted babysitting that young, so I took her with me. She got fussy, so I nursed her in the pew. I was sitting with close friends and using a cover. I didn't feel weird about it being in a church since that's what God made boobs for!

We have a moms room at our church so it makes me feel like I've been told where I can "appropriately" nurse. Tbh I hate it! The doors to the sanctuary are locked so you can't re-enter once sermon starts & many times P just wants to nurse for 5 minutes & then she'll fall asleep.... Totally wish I "could" just nurse there in my seat!
If our sanctuary wasn't stadium seating or if I could sit up top from the beginning of service (they keep it closed until mid praise & worship) then I totally would.....

@runsyellowlites: yeah that's hard if they have a specified room... It sucks you can't just come and go though and they lock it!
@Bao: I don't think there is.... I thought if I sit at the back it would be okay though....like you say if she's hungry, she's hungry and my boob is prob less disturbing than a screaming baby!

Depends in how slick I was with it. If I was one of those fancy moms that can get everything arranged with no fuss, I'd do it in the pew. If it was a bit of a production, I'd probably just go down to the church basement. And I'd use a cover, 'cause I think some of the old people would be scandalized. Lol!

@Grace: lol! That's my worry, I use a nipple shield so it can be a bit of a palava getting her on and she pulls some pretty mean moves to get it to let down... Me yelling 'ow!!!' In the middle of the mass probably won't be appreciated!

I think that as long as you cover up it wouldn't be a problem! I had a lot of people think DS was just sleeping when I had him under the nursing cover

For sure I would, if you are not completely comfortable get you family to help you get under a cover and you should be fine.

It's funny, I'm the queen of nursing in public, I go to a very liberal church (unitarian), but I'm not sure I would. I don't really go any more, so it's not really a problem, but I'm having this issue with christmas eve tomorrow. My toddler just won't sit still or politely through the service. She'd probably be happy to just nurse the hour away, but I don't really feel like doing that.

definitely, right in the pew. I usually wear like a tank that I can just slide down and a wrap sweater that I can kind of use to cover boob but leave lo's face exposed. I've also used my k'tan to keep lo snug to me and nurse modestly.
you might at least offer to feed her right before church, you could try in the car if you want privacy. i know even if my kids aren't acting hungry, if I offer, they'll eat, and it helps prevent a public meltdown.

Here's my thoughts- women my mom's age and older are always asking me if I'm nursing. When I tell them yes, you would think I just handed them a 100 dollar check- they're so happy. I would think you wouldn't offend anyone, the very least the older church going ladies.
That being said, if it were me I'd just drape a nursing cover or a blanket over my shoulder and nurse away. Baby's gotta eat, and shame on those who would be bothered by it!! -
I have and will probably tomorrow night for mass too! With a cover though.

We've got a mothers room that I go into. There's a speaker n the room so you can hear everything that goes on. And I can get back in to the pews whenever I need.
