Yes, I would, particularly if it was from someone I knew. I say this from a friend's experience (hers was given to her by a mom who'd used it with three babies already.) Just clean it well (which the previous owner probably already did.)

It depends. Some pumps (like rentals) are closed systems, which means milk can't get into the pumping mechanism, so if you use new tubing, etc germs can't pass between users. I would definitely buy a used closed system pump. Most pumps, like the Medela pump in style, are open system, so milk could get into the actual pump and transfer germs between users. I'd only buy a used open system pump if I knew the person I was buying it from.

Well I rented, so yes I would buy used. As long as your attachments are new I don't see the big deal.

My first one , and the one I just got, is used, both from people I know. My theory is always "I can sit and potty on the same toilet that they just sat and pottied on, so I can put my boob on something they have put their boob on!" I don't think I would be so comfortable with it if I didn't know the person though.

I researched this way back when, and I believe rented hospital-grade pumps are closed systems, so as long as you get new tubing you're fine. However, most personal pumps are open system, so they say some milk (or condensation from warm milk) can get inside the pump mechanisms, and if someone's diseased or whatever, it could be hazardous.

I borrowed a pump from a friend. Another one of her friends took it from me after I was done pumping and she had a baby, so I guess I'm gonna have to buy a new one for the next baby! We switched health insurance so I'm crossing my fingers that at least some of the pump is covered this time. I'd rather have my own, anyway, and I want to try and get the smaller pump.
