What kind of yogurt does your LO eat? Both of my girls love yogurt but they get weird about chunks of fruit so I have to be mindful of which ones I buy. They are big into the drinkable yogurts and 'kid' type yogurts.

We do plain Greek yogurt. DS1 adds honey, but DS2 eats it plain at 10 months. Yogurt is so filled with sugar that I try to add in my own toppings instead of buying flavored stuff. But that happens sometimes, too.

Lo usually gets the original Yoplait full fat yogurts. She won’t eat plain Greek yogurt (I don’t blame her, neither will I!) and I don’t like buying the “kids” yogurt because they have so much more sugar in them than regular yogurt (why?!?!), are pricier for the small containers/tubes and they are often low-fat which I prefer not to buy.

I used to get yobaby/yotot, but then switched to organic plain and we mix in homemade jam. I do still have some tube ones (yokids or chobani) around just in case.

LO 1 (3.5) loves YoTot yogurts - so we usually do those. He won't eat the tubes or the little drink versions
LO 2 (6 months) just started with organic plain whole milk yogurt and seems to like it! We've been mixing it with his oatmeal or fruit.
pomelo / 5573 posts
We buy Krema Greek yogurt, because it's 10% fat and B is skinny. We mix half and half plain and vanilla to cut down the sugar.
pomelo / 5220 posts
My LO eats Wallaby vanilla yogurt and also likes the Skyrr Icelandic yogurt. He used to the the Yobaby but it is easier to just feed him what DH and I eat in the big tubs! I think at school they give him yoplait (just regular adult style).

I normally just buy a big tub of whole fat vanilla yogurt for all of us to eat from Trader Joes! So much cheaper! LO won't eat plain, and I won't either so I don't blame her!

We typically only buy plain greek yogurt. But DH bought a 80 ounce (seriously) tub of Vanilla Greek Yogurt last Saturday. Thank god because that's all DD2 (HFM) ate for like 3 days. She went through 2/3s of the tub!
If they want fruit I just add fresh or frozen.

Stonyfield organic. LO loves it. I personally LOVE their lowfat Vanilla for myself and DD eats the Berry flavored tube ones, and also the smoothie type little bottle ones. Organic and very smooth no chunk yogurt.
nectarine / 2951 posts
Stonyfield organic whole milk (the same I eat) or Yobaby. He doesn't like fruit chunks in his yogurt.

So Delicious coconut yogurt and Nancy's soy yogurt. Yay for milk alternatives!
For myself I enjoy siggi's. Less sugar and the extra tangy flavor.
pomelo / 5257 posts
Have you ever tried Noosa? It's on the thicker side, so not drinkable, but the flavor is SO delicious. And I don't think there are really chunks of fruit in them? Not big chunks anyway.
coconut / 8472 posts
We buy Yobaby for him. I don't like the Gogurt kind of things because of all the extra sugar. He also loves DH's Liberte brand yogurts.

We get big tubs of Stonyfield plain whole milk yogurt. DD will eat it without anything added and likes to dip fruit in it. The idea of adding jam is awesome @Snowjewelz! I will also buy Chobani coconut yogurt or some of the Stonyfield tubes if I feel like giving DD a treat.
persimmon / 1129 posts
We do Stonyfield full fat vanilla yogurt.
I also get the tubes and freeze them and call them "popsicles." My 2.5 year old was really surprised at grandma's house when she got an actual popsicle so my trick might be busted.

@My Only Sunshine: LOL! Which brand of reusable tubes do you like? I've got a few saved on Amazon.
persimmon / 1129 posts
@regberadaisy: We just buy the yogurt tubes from the grocery store.
I actually tried these: http://www.amazon.com/FoodWorks-Silicone-Maker-Molds-Popsicle/dp/B00D9HQ30W?ie=UTF8&keywords=food%20works%20silicone%20ice&qid=1461270866&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 to make my own but my daughter would squeeze the bottom and the entire "popsicle" would end up shooting out the top and falling on the floor. I think if she were a little older she might get the concept and be able to do it.

We do Fage or Chobani and sometimes Blue Hill - she likes their sweet potato flavor.
pear / 1503 posts
We buy plain Greek yoghurt, in 4% or 10% if we can get it. Although right now, LO is eating so much we aren't as concerned about pushing the fattier stuff. He loves it plain but I will sometimes mix fresh fruit in it, just to get him to eat the fruit!
pear / 1849 posts
My 3.5 year old DS will only eat plain yogurt (weirdo!) so I just buy stonyfield whole milk plain. I add some applesauce or mashed banana for DD (11 months).

I tried the Gerber yogurt blends for the twins' first yogurt. Then I went to the grocery store and got some Stonyfield whole milk yogurt pouches.
I've decide to go back to Gerber yogurt because it doesn't need to be refrigerated and Amazon has it for cheap. Also, it turns out it is made from whole milk. Checks all of my boxes.

we mix fage 2% plain with applesauce and cinnamon. its yeally yummy and foesnt have the weird chalky texture that fat free greek has.

H loves Stonyfield Organic lowfat vanilla, so that's what we get. I also like the Simply Balanced Vanilla Greek Yogurt. We mix it with 1/8 cup of granola for breakfast most mornings.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
@yin: good to know there are alternatives. I'm going to switch DS to soy formula to see if it helps his eczema and I'll need to find a soy yogurt, too.
persimmon / 1322 posts
She eats whatever I get for myself. Usually brown cow, Nancy's, siggis, chobani, tillamook farm style. I aim for whole milk, and low sugar. Siggis and Nancy's plain whole milk honey yogurt mixed with fresh or frozen berries or homemade jam are my favorites.
pomegranate / 3272 posts
I have started to make my own. Thanks Instant Pot! But when I don't so that, DS2 gets Stoneyfield organic. I used to mix it with a little bit from a fruit pouch but I've noticed he likes it plain so I just give him plain.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
Mostly the stonyfield plain full fat or low fat yogurt in the big tubs- she likes it plain, especially with cereal, so no need to give her the extra sugar. She won't eat plain Greek though. But she also eats the flavored kind, usually if I've gotten cups of it for me and Dh. I never really bought the kid ones since they are all sweetened so much, aside from a few to have on the go now and then.
@erinbaderin: FYI the Cabot Greek yogurt also comes in 10% fat. It's delicious.

So I'm working on a spreadsheet that compares Greek yogurt versus non-greek yogurt. Also, plain yogurt versus flavored. I was really interested in the what the sugar content of yogurt was across the board.
At this moment, I'm noticing that plain yogurt clearly has less sugars than flavored. Having Vanila or fruit does increase the sugars. Also, Vanilla is not any better than fruit flavored.
As for baby yogurt versus regular yogurt, I don't see a huge difference in sugar... Although, I have not seen a plain yogurt being offered for baby yogurt... everything I've seen is flavored.
For example Stonyfield Organic Whole Milk Yogurt (not the greek version) with French Vanilla flavoring has more sugar than Stonyfield Yobaby Vanila yogurt (also, not the greek yogurt kind). French vanilla yogurt has 0.132 grams of sugar per gram of yogurt... while Yobaby Vanilla has 0.08 grams of sugar per gram of yogurt.
So plain yogurt is best (less sugar) but adding purees to sweeten it and if you aren't careful, you might be putting the sugar back in.
As for greek versus non greek yogurt... the only difference I see is that greek yogurt contain protein. Calories, fat, carbs and sugar are roughly the same if you are comparing plain versus plain and flavored versus flavored.
My own preference is to find shelf stable yogurt (for convenience) but so far I am unable to find a plain yogurt (both greek or regular yogurt) that is sold in shelf stable pouches.
Honestly, I'm not even sure if my babies will like just plain. I'll give it a try. Maybe they won't like it and I'll have to give them flavored stuff. In that case, I'll just buy what they like because flavored yogurt will have more sugars however you look at it.
I have the spreadsheet if anyone want to see it. I only looked at Gerber, Happy Tot, Plum Organics and Stonyfield yogurts.

@bluestriped bee: I think there is a difference between natural sugars in fruit (purees) and added sugar in many of the sweetened yogurt. But milk/ lactose in general has a lot of natural sugar anyway.
From what I have read Greek yogurt has more protein but regular has more calcium.
So that's why I mostly do plain, since she likes it. If she didn't, I think yogurt in general has enough good stuff to offset the added sugar.

@Foodnerd81: oh, gotcha. Good point. I gave them some plain whole milk Greek yogurt just now and they ate some of it. They didn't eat a their normal yogurt serving. The stoneyfield Greek yogurt had a side cup of cherry preserves and I tried a bit of just the cherry and it was super sweet. I did end up adding some of it to the Greek yogurt and they ate it more readily. The good thing with those side cups is you can adjust the sweetness.

DD is 8 months and gets plain greek yogurt with fruit puree that I make mixed in. I bought her stoneyfield organic baby yogurt once and didn't think to check the label. I was appalled when I got home and discovered that yogurt meant for babies had sugar as the second ingredient!

Just plain whole milk yogurt. I used to get the Whole Foods brand but she decided she like the cow on the Brown Cow container so now we have to get that one. 🙄 We've never given her flavored yogurt at home, though I think they give the kids vanilla at school. She has never complained and downs a ton of the stuff.
persimmon / 1467 posts
I make my own with whole milk. It is super easy and half the price. DS and DH eat it plain with granola. I also mix it with applesauce for DS in a reusable pouch. DS doesn't care that it isn't sweet but I do buy vanilla yogurt for starter every other week and he knows that is different and always begs for it!
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@bluestriped bee: I used to thaw some frozen berries and just mash them up and mix it with the plain yogurt too, especially with the plain Greek yogurt since she didn't like that as much as the plain (but I wanted the extra protein since she has never been a big meat eater). Much cheaper to get a big tub of plain than the flips (although I do really like them!). This is when she was really comfortable with finger foods and stuff so it didn't matter if I just mashed them up pretty chunky.
pear / 1558 posts
Nancy's or Stonyfield organic whole milk yogurt. I mix in fruit purees I make to sweeten it up a little.
persimmon / 1188 posts
I eat plain Greek yogurt myself since I need the protein so I'll also give that to him mixed with fruit or in a smoothie. Lately I've bought Chobani kid Greek yogurt pouches and he really likes them. I'm not extremely health conscious but want extra protein because we both don't eat enough in general.
