Also, when your MIL gives away some of your milk to a new mom who is having supply issues. I guess my fault for using her deep freezer!

@autumnlove: WTF?? are you serious!?! did she do this without asking???

Mil didn't ask. Her BFF's granddaughter recently had a baby and she has supply issues and baby blues/ppd...I'm not sure of the details. My MIL says she dropped off a gift for her BFF's granddaughter and she also brought 36 oz of my pumped milk. I have no idea if her friend even asked for it or if her granddaughter will even use the milk. I don't think I would use pumped milk from my grandma's friend's daughter in law...so I'm bummed it might get wasted!
I'm pretty annoyed and I think it is time to invest in a deep freezer!
@dagret: I'm always nervous about power outages! We had one last summer and my stash got a little slushy.

There's a good article on Kellymom with tips: http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/frozen-milk-power-outage/
During Hurricane Sandy I filled all the empty space in our freezer with gallon jugs of water. It kept everything frozen for over 48 hours, at which point I moved my stash to daycare since they had power. Good luck!

@autumnlove: that is literally one of the most insane thinsg I've ever heard when it comes to crazy MIL stories. I would have gone apesh*t. Did your DH say anything to her??
I wouldn't use random breastmilk that had no testing either, so I think there's a VERY good chance it will be wasted.

@autumnlove: I can't believe she did that without talking to you!!! 36 oz is a LOT of milk!!! I would be soooooo upset!!! *hug*

@autumnlove: I CAN NOT believe she took it without even asking you first.

@autumnlove: oh my gosh, I can not believe she did that! I would definitely be looking into my own deep freezer. Maybe you can find a good deal on craigslist or something!

@dagret: I had a HUGE stash during last year's derecho. We had one friend that didn't lose power. I packed it all in ice and drove it to her house as fast as I could!

@mamabolt: ha I printed it out already!
We've been meaning to get a generator for quite some time bc our house I completely electric. The good thing is that our neighbors right behind us are on a different grid - and our in laws live nearby.

@autumnlove: say what!? i would be pissed and bitter, especially if it's not even my own mom but my MIL.

@autumnlove: we got a deep freezer from home depot - the smallest one... and we went through shopdiscover to get like 15% cash back. you can look into ebates too!

@autumnlove: uhh.. That's horrible! Also, I can't imagine what that girl must have been thinking. I would be so weirded out if my grandmas friend brought me breast milk.. That's just weird!

@dagret: I keep 300 oz in my grandparents deep freezer just in case the power goes out! I try to diversify my risk between 3 freezers!
