Are you sure he had an accident? It almost sounds to my like he got his clothes wet because he was playing in the water. To me, there would be a big difference between admonishing him for playing in the water and shaming him for an accident.

Agree with above (don't have daycare experience but have preschool which is similar).
Also, I believe multiple kids going to the bathroom and keeping door open is standard. 1) they learn by seeing each other 2) it would be endless if they took one at a time 3) the door stays open so they can see the kids in the classroom and I believe it's also so that an adult isn't alone with a kid in a bathroom (prevent accusations/incidents).

All within the range of normal, I think.

I agree that I'd prefer the daycare not have a policy of allowing "loud admonishment" as a discipline strategy (or as something any teacher routinely does!), but I'd give the teacher the benefit of the doubt in this instance. It was the end of the day when patience is probably wearing thin, you've only seen it happen once, and it doesn't sound like it was necessarily inappropriate words (shaming, etc). Teachers are human too

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: hmm... if it's becoming a pattern, maybe it's something you could bring up with daycare management. Also, are you friendly with any other parents? Maybe you could discuss with them to see if they have noticed anything similar.

Sounds normal to me. Maybe as a teacher and childcare provider for the past 10 years, I err on the side of leeway and grace, especially at the end of the day. Currently this is a one-time situation. File it away in your memory, and if more things occur, then it's a pattern you could discuss with admin.

Also, at the 2 daycares I worked for, bathroom doors had to be open for accountability (no adult alone with kids being semi-undressed.)

I witnessed a similar instance at our daycare. I was not overly familiar with the teacher so I had no "gut instinct" to follow in this case. I brought up the incident with the director who "investigated" it and came back to me with the details of what happened (minus kids names). She also pointed out that she concluded nothing wrong happened but she had given the teacher some input on her tone with the kids. She also informed me that the child I saw in tears is a "very emotional" child who does frequently cry quite easily. Not that she was dismissing it - but that it was important to know that to understand the situation. I think bringing the observation up is always ok.

Now, with regard to this situation - I have to raise my voice with DD1 often bc her friends and her play in the sinks at school - these are in the bathroom with the doors always open (no closed doors in her classroom - there is a half wall partition for the one toilet in each bathroom). The kids have also been reprimanded several times for playing in the toilet and putting things in the toilet. So just because it occurred in the bathroom I can see many cases where it may not have been about potty training.

Are you saying every time you walk through that classroom, you hear teachers yelling?

I'm going to disagree with most of the commenters. I think yelling at toddlers is a huge deal and should be a significant cause for alarm. If it were my kid in that classroom, I would absolutely want to know that was going on. I understand caring for a room of toddlers is an incredibly taxing job and if it were one time that would be different. But it sounds like you're saying this is a consistent pattern. I would say something to the director, just be nice and deferential about and clarify you're hoping the director could have a positive constructive conversation with the teacher about ways to keep her cool when she gets stressed.

@DesertDreams88: I agree. If parents are walking through often it sounds like something that was caught out of context or in passing. If it's a regular occurrence (other than just having a loud voice) it may be something to address.

Is there only one teacher and a few kids in this room?
