A Duggar in the news for something other than pregnancy...

    @MrsYellowJacket: me too.
Oh wow! That's really disturbing. I'm not surprised at how they handled it though.

@Torchwood: admittedly did not read the blog but I can think of quite a few people in my life (mostly older) against premarital sex or sex outside of marriage and equating rape or molestation never would have even crossed my mind.

    @travellingbee: me neither, honestly.

I don't watch their show and don't really care if it gets cancelled (I don't understand why everything they do is newsworthy, but that's for another day...) but I do wonder if there's a way for some deal to be made so the girls wind up on top. Probably not though, they won't "split" the family. I'm just hoping it was less than what you usually think of when fondle and molest come up.

@2littlepumpkins: I read it was repeatedly, over the course of time and that it continued after his dad knew. This article has good information.

I haven't seen the show in years, and I sure won't watch it now! The fact that he has made a life by hating others, for having abortions, using birth control, etc is bad enough, but this?! He lobbies in DC to take rights away from gay people, saying they should not have rights because they are no better than child molesters! What a hypocrite! Makes me mad.

@2littlepumpkins: ugh I just read the whole report and some of the touching was while they were sleeping, over the clothes. But several were touching vaginal areas under dresses including one instance while one of the little girls was sitting on his lap reading a book. She said under her dress with underwear pulled down. If I wasn't already nauseous from MS id be now anyway.

Here's what I can't get over. The parents are treating this like it was a sin or a mistake. I'm sorry but incest and pediphelia are not "mistakes"! They are deep psychological issues. I'm worried for his poor children.

@Mrs. Microscope: He resigned from his position last night because of this.

The police report is available to read and it was clearly at least 4 sisters and one family friend (who stated in the police report that they hadn't been back since the incident). So many people knew about it too, his parents, church elders, cops and no one did anything until it was too late to make a case. And Anna knew for two years before their marriage. I read confessing this was the first thing he told her family upon meeting them.

Not defending him AT ALL, but on some levels I am not surprised that something like this has come out....there are so many people living in close quarters with so many restrictions. Still horrible and even more disturbing that everyone brushed it under the rug. And he didn't go to counseling. He went to help a family friend manual labor for a few months and had a stern talking to from a cop that is now a convicted sex offender. Sheesh.

@2littlepumpkins: what does this even mean? "I'm just hoping it was less than what you usually think of when fondle and molest come up."

A sex crime is a sex crime. Putting them on a scale of "more" or "less" bad is really unhelpful. It discredits the victim's experience, perceptions and feelings of the crime committed against them.

Pretty disgusting! I read an article the other day about this, but kind of got the impression that he was young and was "fooling" around with some girl and got in shit. However, after reading the articles in this thread, that clearly was not the case.

Who in their right mind (obviously none of them are!) would have children with him!??!? I would be so scared for them.

I am also not at all surprised by this behaviour. Kids have sexual curiosities, and if they aren't allowed to explore them in healthy ways, then, like others have said, you're going to end up with some really fucked up ways of finding things out. Like molesting your sisters.

I feel sorry for all of the children, and I think Jim-Bob & Michelle are (and have) completely fucking up their kids.

Of course they only told "friends" who are in their weird cult circle of beliefs. Of course, they found someone who would brush this off because, he TOO, was a fucking perv! It's all pretty gross.

Unfortunately, I'm not even a bit surprised by this. I grew up in a similar culture and know of someone (years ago) who did something similar to a sister when he was a teenager. Of course his parents never went to the authorities - they only had him in counseling with their pastor.

He is so creepy. Shame on the parents for only having him speak with his pastor. So so so messed up.

@.twist.: That's what I thought to after reading the first article: that he was caught hooking up as a teen and his dad freaked. New details coming out make me so sad for the girls effected and still have to live under the same roof with parents that protected their abuser instead of them.

Interestingly the report also reveals that the parents "spank" their children with a rod. All of the children. But in interviews, Michelle has said they use postive discipline methods. I just feel like they are so fake. They portray this perfect family and try to make everyone else think this is how everyone should be when they clearly can't keep it together.

@travellingbee: that's the first thing I said when I heard about this... the "perfect" Duggar facade is finally cracking...

  14. 2littlepumpkins

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@catomd00: I mean I was hoping it was like a quick grab one time rather than longer "sessions" or whatever you'd call it, over rather than under clothes, that they didnt have bruises, burning, or cuts, that it was once for whatever reasons, and not over and over and over, etc. I hope we aren't about to find out it was also rape or photographs or other things.

Yeah it all is a crime but I'd rather be the victim of the lesser stuff. I'm not in a therapy session with anyone saying "oh but it was only x, y, or z."

  15. 2littlepumpkins

    grapefruit / 4455 posts

@travellingbee: that's terrible. I actually think the parents handling of this is the most disturbing thing, because of all the years those girls had to be silent. So sad.

When I first heard rumors about this I also assumed it was blown out of proportion by the parents, but after reading the reports I am disgusted!!! I can't believe the parents protected him and not their daughters. Absolutely enraging. I hope those girls are okay.

I think it's awful that it's all playing out in the media, I hope that something good comes out of all the coverage, like counseling for the girls. I think it'd be so much harder having to deal with the media in addition to trying to deal with the emotions from the attacks. There's so much speculation about which daughters I just hope they finally get the love and support they should've gotten from the beginning.

@travellingbee: That shocked me too when I read the report. I also just learned that they "blanket train".

Has the show been taken off air/cancelled now?! It's supposed to be on TLC right now for the next few hours and is showing so on my TV guide, but the Little Couple is in instead.

  22. Applesandbananas

@IRunForFun: you put the baby on a blanket on the floor and punish them every time they try to leave the blanket, is what I read.

@IRunForFun: @Applesandbananas: That's what I read too. I saw some comments (not sure if it is true or how they blanket train) where they physically hurt the child so they eventually associate leaving the blanket with pain and don't.

I'm trying to find an official statement from TLC about pulling the show but can't. The marathon that was supposed to be on today has been pulled though.

I was wondering if this would have anything to do with why the oldest daughter hasn't married yet. And I'd really like to see one of the girls defect from the family and have a happy normal life.

@Applesandbananas: I agree that I wish people wouldn't speculate which girls were harmed. I'm sure it's been hard enough to deal with, especially still having to see him all the time, without feeling like your privacy is being invaded and you're being forced into the spotlight as a victim.

I'm just so, so sad for those girls. They've only ever been taught to be submissive. Michelle Duggar has even said before that a woman should never turn her husband down for sex: "Be available. Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love that he has, and you always need to be available when he calls." Ugh.

@MrsSCB: she said that? wow. that's awful. AWFUL.

i'm sad for the girls, i hope they get or have achieved or will achieve some resolution or way of coping with what happened.

This makes me so sad. I have always actually liked the Duggars but I can't believe they kept up the charade after this happened.

If Honey Boo Boo was cancelled, they absolutely need to cancel this show too.

They should have pulled the show MUCH sooner IMO, (like before this latest news came out) but I'm glad they seem to be doing it now.

@2littlepumpkins: I am absolutely NOT saying this is the sort of thing that results from your typical "you shouldn't have sex before marriage" teachings. (And neither is the blogger.) This is referring to the type of very, very extreme patriarchal purity culture that's taught by people like Mike and Debbie Pearl, which frequently goes hand in hand with other Quiverfull teachings.
