So sad!! I know no family is perfect.. But this is surprising and so sad. And I don't think I could have married him knowing what his wife knew.

I wonder what he did? I hope his victim is ok. I read in the comments that some think it was one of his sisters.
grapefruit / 4455 posts
Supposedly he was fondling some of his sisters? It seems a little unclear. I think the anti-duggar crowd is happy to have something to talk about.

@Mrs. Pickle: I read an article that said he groped boobs and fondled genitals on numerous girls.
I don't see how his wife married him knowing this. And then had kids with him. Hell to the no!
pomelo / 5228 posts
I saw this and think he should be a registered child molester! I really hope it wasn't his sisters, that would be extra awful. They're the most accessible though...
papaya / 10343 posts
Yikes. Yea I would not marry an admitted sex offender. Teenaged at the time or not.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@Smurfette: that's horrific. I hope they cancel the show.
pomelo / 5257 posts
It was five girls. But don't worry! According to his statement, he stopped "going down that road" so he wouldn't ruin HIS life. Disgusting.

I am honestly disgusted with this, i read an article that said it was a familu friend and his sisters. I cannot believe that his wife would choose to have kids with someone with this history. Research shows that pedophilia is something that is really hard to "overcome" (imo i dont believe u can oveecome it) and i worry about his kids.
Sexual assault is so very damaging and can affect someone for the rest of their lives in numerous ways, i feel for his victims especially since.he was not prosecuted dor his actions.

There are so many people on Facebook defending him saying "everyone has a past" and "he owned up to his mistakes." Sorry, child molestation (including your sisters) isn't just a teenage mistake. Honey Boo Boo was canceled because Mama June was dating a child molestor, so this show needs to go. Disgusting.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@lawbee11: right?? "Teenage mistakes" are sneaking out after curfew or underage drinking, not sexual assault! I don't see how anyone could find this defensible.
pear / 1593 posts
I wish I was more surprised! Great example of what happens when you try to micromanage developing children's world into a tight controlled bubble - they don't have any way to express their emotions/urges in a healthy way.
pomelo / 5257 posts
Ok, and I just read the state trooper his parents took him to for "counseling" is now serving a lengthy sentence for child porn??? Wtf.
grapefruit / 4800 posts
Seems like a good reason to educate kids on their sexuality instead of just saying 'don't do it'. He's from a family that doesn't approve of kissing before marriage. What he did Is horrible but I wonder as a young teenager how much is from him being curious and the only response is hellfire and brimstone. Seems like a recipe for weird sexual behavior.

@Maysprout: @runnerd: So true! I don't think their parenting methods are healthy at all!

@mrscobee: UGH! I was just logging on to post this:

Unbelievable yet totally believable. I blame his parents a million more times than him.
pomelo / 5084 posts
@Mrs. Pickle: Agreed. TLC HAS to cancel it after this, right????? I mean his parents aided and abetted a crime.
clementine / 903 posts
@wrkbrk: I know right?! I blame his parents too and for some reason I'm not shocked!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
I just read part of the police report. It definitely sounds like it was his sisters. Those poor girls. They had no way to get away from their assailant.
pomelo / 5084 posts
@Mrs. Pickle: And you know those parents have made weird statements before, like, girls have to control how they look and what they wear because guys just have these natural tendencies that are not their fault! UGH!!!! I feel so sorry for those sisters trapped in that family.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@wrkbrk: Not just any crime... a crime against several of their own daughters!
If I had to choose between one son and 4 daughters (!!)... it wouldn't even be close.
pomelo / 5084 posts
@mrbee: Agree. I admit I used watch the show from time to time ignoring what I know to be true about these people (e.g. Josh Duggar's job) but this really is the final straw.
eggplant / 11824 posts
I saw this earlier - I don't know how anyone can defend this family. They are shady as hell. They knew their teenage son molested multiple of his own sisters, waited more than a year before "forcing him to confess" to a friend/cop who is busted for having child porn himself, and are thankful that, (per the People article) they were brought closer to God and that HIS life wasn't ruined, by, you know, continuing to molest his own sisters. Dispicable.
clementine / 903 posts
@yoursilverlining: They are so f#cked up for sure! It is crazy that people actually are defending them.
grapefruit / 4997 posts
That's just awful! Cancel that show, crimes against children are just too awful to defend.
pomegranate / 3890 posts
@wrkbrk: yes and i doubt they received proper treatment for their trauma.
Also how did cps not become involved when he admitted abusing his sisters?
apricot / 324 posts
Sick fucker. I always thought the Duggars were weird. I'm not surprised by this at all. I'm especially horrified by his statement saying he stopped so it wouldn't ruin HIS life, sick sick sick. I hope the show gets cancelled.

@Maysprout: This blogger has talked multiple times about how the typical "the only sex that's okay is when you're married" teachings lead to issues. Basically, if you're taught that all sins are equal, and anything sexual outside of marriage is bad, then you can wind up with this twisted mindset that molestation (or rape) is really no worse than consensual sex, since both are forbidden. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/lovejoyfeminism/2012/08/a-tale-of-two-boxes-contrastin-sexual-ethics.html
pomelo / 5607 posts
Also, that blogger wrote about this and made some really good points. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/lovejoyfeminism/2015/05/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-josh-duggar-police-report.html
pomelo / 5607 posts
Also, the truly horrifying part of this is something many probably aren't aware of- the victims' "counseling" almost certainly involved requiring them to repent of their role in what happened, and they're almost certainly treated as basically "damaged goods" now. That extreme patriarchal purity culture puts so much emphasis on sexual purity, and on females (of all ages) not "tempting" males, that a large part of the blame was undoubtedly placed squarely on their shoulders.
cantaloupe / 6634 posts
My heart hurts for these young girls. He should have been punished to the full measure of the law, son of theirs or not. I cannot imagine being forced to live under the same roof as the person who abused me. Forgiveness is great but I doubt the girls were properly counseled given their parents' choice of how to "rehabilitate" him. Sounds like they probaby really downplayed it. Ugh...just ugh.
eggplant / 11287 posts
I'm just confused how he didn't end up as a registered sex offender or spend time in juvie if they "took it to the authorities?" Sexually abusing 5+ young girls is a pretty reprehensbile crime...how did he get away with just counseling? That makes zero sense to me.
kiwi / 524 posts
@Rainbow Sprinkles: They eventually told a state trooper friend about it, but he never told anyone else. Oh, and he is apparently now a convicted child molester or child pornographer or something. And now the statute of limitations has run out, so nothing can be done.
eggplant / 11287 posts
@Woolly Mammoth: heartbreaking that no one ever advocated for those girls. They deserve so much more.
apricot / 378 posts
I'm sick. I read the title and thought - hope one of the girls is going to college!!! What a sick sick sick story. I can't believe how the family "handled" this situation....
