@agold: I'm all done with u/s unless something comes up. You'll be surprised at how your OB and nurse will know the baby's position just by touch. Unless the was a foot kicking out, I could never really figure out the baby's position!

  2. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: Wow, I really will be amazed! I can never tell what position the baby is in. I feel kicks and jabs all over the place.

@agold: Then that all totally makes sense as to why things were still fitting I think I was in maternity pants around 12w last time and 7w this time. Haha! I guess I figured that if I were going to buy them, might as well get as much use as possible out of them. Maybe my non-maternity style just didn't lend itself to maternity longevity

@ShootingStar: I've been having actual contractions for almost two weeks now (I'm 27 weeks). I have BH throughout the day, but like you will have some that are so painful they just make me stop. I was on bed rest for almost a week, and now am on extremely limited activity and plenty of fluids. Mine are definitely worse with activity, but I have had several while I was just sitting down doing nothing. I also have a 3 year old DD, so I understand where you're coming from with the difficulties of trying to rest!

  5. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@pregnantbee: Yes, I have thought about that, too. buying early to get good use out of them. I did want to do that especially since i plan to buy something like Paige jeans which is totally more than I want to spend but what i think i will need to spend to find something that fits and looks good. So I should get on it! But I hate shopping. And hate spending money on clothes.

  6. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@agold: Haha, I totally hear ya! I'm at the point now where I'm getting tired of my little rotation and kind of need at least more bottoms for hotter weather. But I reallllllly don't want to spend more on maternity clothes, since we plan for this to be our last.

@pregnantbee: did you buy the belevation biker short thingies? Now that it's officially 100 degrees here today, I'm assuming I'll be living in dresses the rest if the summer, but I do need something to keep my thighs separate and happy.

  8. pregnantbee

    grapefruit / 4717 posts

@OldpuebloJenn: I did buy them and have worn them once. They seem awesome so far! Now I need more skirts/dresses. I only have maybe 2 dresses and 1 skirt. HA.

@Pirouette: OMG. I just came home and got the mail and my husband's insurance open enrollment papers came. His open enrollment is this month! I was planning to switch to his but didn't think it would happen until the end of the year, thereby coinciding with my insurance open enrollment. Anyhow, I might be switching too!!!

@agold: oh no! How does the insurance look?

If not for the fact that I was high risk, I would have had just one u/s after 20 weeks, a 32 week growth scan. But based on the results of that, I had weekly scans after that.

  11. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@Pirouette: Actually, my husband's insurance is pretty much the exact same as mine. Same carrier and I couldn't find any real difference when I spent hours online last night looking into all of it. I think it may end up being a bit cheaper, too, which is always a plus. I would love to get premium PPO insurance but I just can justify the cost right now since we have other things that we are saving towards right now.

  12. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@agold: oh that's great! my husband's insurance is great for him and our daughter, but not for me, since his company won't cover any of the premium for spouse. so it's looking like I'll be starting the new gig 7/1 and coverage will start 8/1, which is good. I'll cobra my June 1 insurance through July. I haven't seen the plan options yet, but I'm hoping the PPO option is affordable, since i'll be restarting my deductible as of 8/1 and don't want another high deductible plan for this year. my doctors are going to think I'm insane when i switch insurance on 6/1 and then again on 8/1 lol. I think i'm going to submit my hospital registration on 6/1 when the new insurance takes effect and then just update the info on 8/1, because otherwise I might not be able to schedule the C section until that date. ahh the many moving parts here but at least things are slowly falling into place.

  13. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@Pirouette: I think submitting the registration on 6/1 also makes sense. Bummer your husband's insurance won't take you. My personal work insurance won't cover anyone but me. So baby has to go on husband's and luckily its reasonable enough to add me, too. PPO premiums are actually pretty much the same as HMO premiums with his insurance. Its the whole 10% of service thing that makes me so nervous. What if I need an expensive service?? I have PPO dental and always get random "high" bills (high for dental is reasonable though.)

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@agold: we had an 80/20 PPO (not s huge deductible though). Over two years when we had LO, we had her birth, her hospitalization for RSV, and then DH was hospitalized, then an ER visit for her for rotavirus. So 20% of all that was a lot of bills. After that we switched to the HMO because we didn't want to have to budget for the unexpected.

  15. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@agold: oh they'd take me, i just meant it would be ridiculously expensive compared to my employer since my employer covers a share of the premiums for me! I had PPO for years until I joined an HSA high deductible plan, and it was so nice not paying any out of pocket costs. But now that I have an HSA, I love it. I feel more in control somehow, and I love having a separate account to pay the costs so I'm never out of pocket. That said, it comes with a high deductible, and since my deductible will reset to 0 as of 8/1, it won't be an option for me this year. So hopefully the PPO is reasonable

The 10% of service (i assume this is 10% coinsurance?) usually isn't a huge issue, because generally PPO plans have relatively low deductibles/out of pocket maximums. so if you had a costly procedure, you'd meet your deductible and be done for the year. I have coinsurance on my HSA plan, and the highest bill I've had so far this year was under $300 (aside from that damn panorama misery!) But the PPO plans I've been on in the past only had coinsurance for out of network, so as long as i stayed in network, I was covered. Yours is different I guess!

  16. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

oh yea it's different if the whole family is on a PPO plan, because that can definitely add up! HMO isn't an option here, so I'm not really familiar with the difference.

  17. T.H.O.U.

    wonderful clementine / 24134 posts

@Pirouette: we have a really good big network HMO. Basically as long as it's in network it's a flat fee. Any hospitalization is $200 for us. An ER trip is $100. $20 sick visit to primary care and $40 for specialist (this includes OB). It's just nice to know our exact costs.

  18. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@T.H.O.U.: this was basically how i had it with my PPO plan back in the day (and how my husband and daughter's plan works). I guess maybe our PPO plans are better here since HMO isn't an option?

  19. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@T.H.O.U.: Thanks for making me feel better about sticking with HMO. Same hospitals and whatnot as PPO. I don't want to budget for unexpected costs, either!

@Pirouette: That's good his work would take you. Bummer they won't help with premiums! And yes, the PPO available to me has a decent (i suppose) deductible. But I really don't even want to have to plan for $2,000 or whatever it is for a family of three for the year. I much rather prefer to be in the $500 and under range for medical expenses each year. Knock on wood.

  20. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@Pirouette: @T.H.O.U.: The PPO I am looking at looks like that too. But then there is 10% required for tests and x rays and procedures and such. THat's what makes me nervous. Not the co-pay for office visit.

  21. Pirouette

    pomegranate / 3331 posts

@agold: ah, that makes sense! go with whatever makes you most comfortable!

  22. agold

    grapefruit / 4045 posts

@Pirouette: Its so nice that we at least have these options!! I'm dying for the day when I'm comfortable going with the PPO. Its going to happen soon for me!! I was boxed out of going to the OB I wanted for this pregnancy through the HMO rules. I still have a good OB and regular hospital. But I would have loved to just jump around how ever I want with the doctors. So soon I hope to be able to! And I'm really hoping that your insurance works itself out to your favor!!

@pregnantbee: I feel the same way - mostly at night. I feel so full and like there's just no room for everything. I don't remember feeling this way with my first!

@shootingstar: How did your appointment go? How are you feeling?

  24. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@pwnstar: Thanks for checking in! So, ironically I had like the lowest blood pressure reading of my life when I got there, lol. The midwife I saw was really nice and reassuring. She essentially said my body seems to react badly to pregnancy.

She wants me to check my BP once a day and let them know if it goes over 140/90. She said the painful BH contractions were totally normal, especially in a 2nd pregnancy, and I only need to be concerned if I had more than 6 in an hour and they didn't go away with rest/fluids/warm bath. She also said, as we all know, that 2nd pregnancies are tougher and everything happens earlier.

  25. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@ShootingStar: So glad you feel better! And lol, yes, *of course* your BP was low. Not that that's a bad thing. You know what I'm saying.

  26. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@ShootingStar: Happy to hear the BP reading was OK! I've been having a lot of BH, and my doc also said six in an hour was the threshold. I'm glad to know yours said the same.

@pwnstar: I second nighttime fullness. I feel so much bigger at night than in the morning! It's weird. I guess from eating all day. I don't know. But by bedtime I feel like everything is squished.

  27. pwnstar

    pear / 1718 posts

@ShootingStar: @MrsSCB: I like that there is a consensus with your docs! I have a lot of days (like today) where I ride the 4/5 an hour line a couple of times a day. That makes me feel better.

@MrsSCB: I am seriously frightened sometimes by how much bigger I am at night than during the morning/day. I am always relieved when I roll into the bathroom in the morning and everything seems back to *normal!*

@pregnantbee: @ShootingStar: You both look so cute!! I'm not wearing anything today that shows my bump well.

I might go look at cars tomorrow. A nice dinner out with my husband tonight or tomorrow. Sleep. BBQ at my mom's on Sunday.

Did anyone celebrate mother's day for themselves when they were pregnant with their first child?

@agold: yup, we did a family mini session. I wanted to capture us as a family of three, me pregnant and my daughter at this age. We got a bunch of great shots. Our photographer prefers to take maternity photos later, after 30 weeks, but I wanted to still feel attractive not swollen and chubby, and as soon as she saw my bump she was on board!
