@ChiCalGoBee: I haven't read it myself, but I know that baby wise is a lot more controversial than other sleep training methods. It has even been linked to several infant deaths and failure to thrive from people following it too rigorously re: the recommendation To restrict feeds in the MOTN too young. I know many pediatricians have cautioned against it.
I'm sure it can be used safely and some people love it but I would probably do some extra research.

@ChiCalGoBee: For me, I think at this age its important to feed them as much as possible and I have no expectations of her STTN. With B he actually dropped a feed on his own. We didn't do any type of sleep training till around 5 months.

Just got back from well visits for both boys. Ryan is doing awesome just shy of 2 weeks he is 5 lbs 11 oz (5 oz over birth weight) and 19.5 inches.
Sleep sucks. 1.5 hour stretches maybe one or two 2 hours. I don't know what gives since he nurses really well before bed. Seriously jealous of those of you that are even complaining about 2 hour stretches. This kid wants to nurse constantly. I asked about lip tie he does have a thick frenulum but my pediatrician doesn't put much stock in it if he is gaining well, lip flanges well and I'm not in pain.
My older still has a cold and isn't napping and I have zero patience for him. Our house looks like a bomb went off!

@snowjewelz: wash hands 500x a day. My husband and older are sick but so far baby and I are ok.

@winniebee: glad to hear! I feel like I'm constantly worrying about something these days! I really hope he will sleep just a little longer soon to give you s break!

@winniebee: that's great you had good appt! I'm sorry T is still sick. Hopefully he feels better soon!

Just got back from OB. All restrictions lifted. I hadn't been following them anyway.

@Adira: yes, he will take a paci! I've actually started doing that a bit to see if its hunger or soothing. This is helping me see he's beginning to move towards needing less food at night.
(E.g. One night I gave him back the fallen paci and he went back to sleep for another 40 mins...couldn't believe it! Glad it worked for Xander! Also-I SO struggle getting back to sleep after each feeding-totally feel you.
@MrsF: thanks for the feedback. I'm reading about a lot of different sleep methods right now so it's good to hear other perspectives. He is definitely stretching himself longer each night (I woke him to feed after 4+ hours last night), so we'll see how he does self-weaning a feed.
@BandDmommy: Thanks for weighing in. I think N is headed toward self-weaning a night feed like B did based on what I've seen the past few nights. We'll see!

@winniebee: so glad your appointment went well! Sleep sounds horrible. It makes everything so much harder to handle and I know how much patience you need for a toddler (particularly a sick one). Hugs!

@BandDmommy: always good to be "officially" cleared to do whatever you want, even if you were already anyways! i'm 4 weeks pp and have been running a bit, skiing, and generally doing everything i normally would do as long as it doesn't hurt. then again, some days i nap instead of working out
@winniebee: ugh! sounds like sleeping is super-frustrating. have you tried double-swaddling? it helps keep E's arms in better (little houdini!) and i think keeps her warmer. we also tuck a blanket about halfway over her, with the sides tucked under the mattress so it can't move. not sure any of that will work for you -- hopefully R figures out that sleep is good! for everyone!
@chicalgobee: we did a loose interpretation of babywise with our first and will likely do something similar for E. it probably just ended up being more like EASY, with focus on making sure she took full feedings instead of snacking and trying to do drowsy-but-awake and in-her-crib for naps/night after a month or so. but we definitely took baby's cues & personality into account too.
@snowjewelz: we're pretty big proponents of zinc tablets (zicam) at the first sign of a cold. and lots and lots of handwashing.

@KayKay: when are you skiing?! My biggest activity right now is going to Target for an hour haha!
pear / 1961 posts
@snowjewelz: we live in a ski town, so it's not too involved. well, in theory -- doing anything where you have to take kids with you or prep them to be home with someone else is always a process!! my mom has been staying with us for the last month, so she stays with the girls while i get out for a couple hours on Friday mornings. it's not always easy or perfect, but it's keeping me sane!

@KayKay: I'm so jealous I miss my ski life in Taos!

So we had to go back to the dr to redo her newborn screening test. She only gained 3 oz within the last week dr said its on the low end but it's fine for now.. If she is not gaining enough by 1 month we will need to do a weighted feed to see just how much she is transferring.

@BandDmommy: Glad you got at least one good stretch of sleep!
@MrsF: We're opposites! You've got the good latch during the day and the sore left nipple, and I have the good latch at night and the sore right nipple!
@snowjewelz: Bummer your husband is sick!! Hubs has gone through two colds since Logan has come home, but Logan hasn't caught either of them. Just make sure your husband is good about washing his hands when dealing with the baby!
@winniebee: Awesome weight gain!! Bummer about the nursing around the clock though. I wonder if he does have a lip tie because I think I read that can be a reason they nurse more often. Though if he's latching well, it shouldn't really matter. Maybe he's just a snacker.
@BandDmommy: Glad you had a great appointment!!
@ChiCalGoBee: I still haven't tried a pacifier with Logan yet, but that's exactly what we did with Xander and it worked great. Hope it works for you!

Logan had his first bottle today!! I went and did the grocery shopping and Hubs fed him while I was gone. He took it like a champ, but is definitely a boob-man because he still wanted me as soon as I got home! I think he's dependent on me to nurse to sleep - so far we're not doing very well getting him to sleep on his own without nursing first. We didn't have this problem with Xander...
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Adira: yeah my pediatrician was like probably every LC will have an opinion about lip tie but she wouldn't want to mess with a good thing since he is gaining well and I'm not in pain. I think if he is still nursing so frequently at a month I will go to an LC to see if anything is up. At the end of the day he's a small baby so his tummy is only so big and so I'm trying not to be hard on him
pomelo / 5660 posts
@winniebee: D nursed around the clock in the beginning too. I think size has a lot to do with it. Hang in there momma!
pomelo / 5660 posts
@Adira: that's exciting! I'm scared to try a bottle eventhough B went from boob to bottle and back with no issue.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@winniebee: I definitely think his size plays an important role in how much he's eating! His tummy just isn't that big. Logan's almost twice his size (9 lbs 5.5 oz last Tuesday) and still eats that frequently sometimes. Hopefully as he gets bigger, he'll be able to go longer and longer between feeds.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@BandDmommy: I was nervous, but Xander went back and forth with no issue, and so far Logan has too! He took the bottle just fine and then nursed after almost immediately with no issues. So hopefully D will be the same for you!

What bottles do you use (or intend to use)? We used Dr Browns with C and I ended up hating them due to the many parts. We are using Avent this time around but they don't seem to be working great as K constantly has milk running down her chin/cheek. I really hate to go back to the multi part Dr Browns (especially since I sold all of them :)).
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@BandDmommy: good to know thanks!!
@Adira: hard to believe he is that much bigger!!!!
@MamaG: we use play tex drop in nursers. Technically u only have to wash the nipple each time....
honeydew / 7283 posts
J's had two bottles from DH. I wanted to start fairly early - he's such a boob monster I was worried he'd refuse. He took them fine once he figured them out though. I think I'll make sure he gets a bottle once or twice a week until I go back to work.
@MamaG: I've just been using the Medela bottles for now. With M (she was mostly FF) we used the Dr. Brown's because we had gotten some in a gift. Definitely a pain to wash though!
pear / 1961 posts
E has had a couple bottles. One each of the two times I have spent the morning skiing, and one when DH and I went to a holiday party last week. We just use the Medela ones, and neither girl has had any trouble with them or with switching between bottle & boob.
With LO1, the ped actually advised us to intro a bottle sometime by week 4 or 5; she said some babies will have a hard time with one if you wait too long. That was like one random bottle here and there though, not anything consistent.
pear / 1961 posts
E is one month old today and seems to want to spend the day eating every hour (!!) and sleeping in between. Growth spurt? Or just being snuggly as we get a foot+ of snow? I mean, all I want to do is drink hot chocolate and lay around in pajamas too
Babies be babies...
nectarine / 2028 posts
@KayKay: that sounds exactly like what we want to do .Everything has been baby-led up until this point, and he is really struggling to take naps (likely because I'm missing his sleep cues so he is constantly overtired. By the time he yawns hes already there ). N is a very easily stimulated baby, so even with black-out curtains, getting him to sleep when there's daylight is hard because he wants to play and smile! EASY is probably a better explanation of the type of schedule I want to get on, but there is a lot of helpful info on baby sleep in general in this book that I'm learning anecdotally. Babies will do what babies will do!
nectarine / 2028 posts
@KayKay: Also, we had to introduce the bottle early because my son was in the NICU. He gets one a day to make sure he can go back and forth between breast and bottle, and it's worked beautifully for us thus far. My LC actually said extreme nipple confusion is actually pretty rare.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@MamaG: we are using medela
I think bc of nipple shield we have been going switching between that and bottle. I need to try more often for her to latch naturally tho!

@whenoceansrise: so cute!
We are planning to DYI a few newborn pics this week; we were thankful to be gifted our maternity session but don't feel like spending $ on a newborn session. Hopefully we can get a few good pics!

@winniebee: I am sorry about your sleep! I know you will do what it takes to keep LO full!
@BandDmommy: Wow you go girl! Happy you can go back to normal!
@Adira: hmmm.... haven't even thought about putting her to sleep with out nursing first....when do you start that?
@snowjewelz: awww I am sure all will be ok, but I am sure it ia stressful, I'm sorry!!!!
@whenoceansrise: ughhhh just adorable ♡

Today she has nursed off and on all day.......because of havingthat 24hr period with only 1 poop, I will feed her when ever! I'm hoping she has a good night like last night, but all signs today say nope
We go to Peds tomorrow I actually can't wait to go, ask a million ??? and get out for a bit!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: He's so handsome!! Great pics!
@FaithFertility: I just started trying to start EASY this week, so ideally he'll go down for nap without nursing first. But we're not having much luck so far... ETA: he's 3 weeks,though I remember with Xander not having much luck with EASY this early either.

@Adira: ahhh ok I'm just so overwhelmed thinking of all the "firsts" ......lol but according to my MIL me and DH arw doing great!!!!!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: Kara can't really sleep without nursing either! She just went back in the boob after holding her and then putting her down. Hopefully EASY will actually work by the time she is 4 weeks?!
