@winniebee: so glad to see the miracle blanket being useful!

@theotherstark: I'm in the same boat as you (wanting to meet mom friends). I joined some Meet Up groups and am getting together with someone from that this week. I also met a nice couple in our labor and delivery class and gave her my number-she and I had lunch with the babies this past week. I also joined a local MOMS club (http://www.momsclub.org). I figure if I cast a wide enough net, hopefully I'll find people I have some things in common with, you know? And I still contest that you moving to SoCal is the 'real' solution .
@FaithFertility: Just reading about your concerns with Flat Head stuff....I have been paranoid about that since before he was born, even though (knock wood) everything seems okay so far. I nannied for two kids that had to wear helmets, so I"m obsessed with making sure he's sleeping with his head in different directions. I also made both my pediatrician and the resident helping her check his head at his two-month appointment. Hope you get your answers soon!

@ChiCalGoBee: I like your thoughts about "casting a wide net" I don't expect to want to be close friends with every mom I meet , but it's wonderful to find a few people that you really connect with.

@winniebee: yay for finally getting longer stretches! We got two four hour stretches as well.
Pumping at work is def. Not fun. It feels like I just get into a project and time to pump again. I may appreciate it more though once I'm caught up at work. For now though I am keeping ahead of Ethan at home so hoping it stays that way.
@Adira: did you say you have to use pto hours to pump? Is that a common thing? Don't tell my boss.

@Adira: @josina: I'm so stressed about pumping at work I only work 2 days a week but I leave home at 5:30am and get home at 9pm. I'm a nurse in a busy icu so I have to find another nurse to watch my patients (along with their own critical patients) each time I have to pump. It's just hard to imagine making it work! M was on formula by that point, but things have been going so well with J and I really want to make it work.

I feel bad posting here when others are struggling. D is consistently out sleeping Her brother. Brennan sleeps 9 pm till 7 am and darcy sleeps 9 pm till almost 8 am.

The bad thing is I have major baby fever.. Which is cray cray since I have a 10 week old.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@josina: I think it all depends on your work. I have two 15 minute breaks that I can use, but I always had to pump more than just that, so I had to use my vacation time to cover the rest of the time I spent pumping.
@BandDmommy: 9:00 - 8:00 with no wakeups???
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: Is where you work large enough that they supply FLMA? If so, then they HAVE to provide you space and time to pump. I would maybe talk to HR or your boss and just be very direct and say "I need to pump x number of times" or "I need to pump at these times" followed by "How do you plan to cover my patients while I'm pumping?" or something like that. Put the responsibility on THEM. I mean, be willing to work with them, but if they are required to allow you time to pump, then they need to work with you to do it. You shouldn't have to do all the work yourself or feel totally stressed out about it, which will only hurt your supply!

@snowjewelz: nothing different other than my little sister was over till around 10 so she was up more before, bed.....Def going to try to keep her awake again, but hard when they are little!
pomegranate / 3973 posts
@MrsF: that sounds tough! Will you pump every two hours or space it out more? Hope you can make it work!
@BandDmommy: lol, baby fever here too! Ready to make baby #2.

@Adira: It's so hard. Covering each other's patients is sort of an expectation of my job, and it's fine when staffing is safe and appropriate. We cover each other's patients so that we can take lunch breaks, etc, so it's the same for pumping. The problem is that the administrators are always trying to save money by keeping staffing *just* at the legal limit for ICU patients. Because we are staffed so tightly and the patients require so much monitoring and care, you end up feeling really guilty asking anyone to watch your patients for any reason. All it takes is one really critical patient to throw the whole staffing into a nightmare. There's nothing worse than feeling like you're too busy to keep your patient safe, and you hate to make anyone else feel that way by giving them more work to do.
I'm not the first person to pump on my unit, so I'm sure I'll make it work - it's just a little hard to imagine
Thanks for the support! It'll be nice to have any tips and tricks from those who have done it before as I'm figuring this whole thing out
honeydew / 7283 posts
@josina: I'll have to space it out more. My commute is long too so I'll pump in the car both ways I'm thinking. Oy.
It's not the end of the world if I have to supplement a little (my DD was primarily formula fed and certainly didn't suffer) but I'd like to feel like I gave it my best shot!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: Ugh, that sounds really stressful. I'm sorry! It must be hard to be responsible for the lives and well-being of so many people. I couldn't handle it. It's hard for me to relate because I just have a desk job and nothing I do is so critical that I can't take time during my day to pump. Meetings might interfere, but I can always just pump before or after, so it's nothing like what you have to deal with. Maybe you can talk to the other ladies who have pumped to see how they managed it? When do you return to work?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: Also, depending on your supply, you might be able to get away with going a decent amount of time between pumping, which would make it easier if you didn't have to pump as many times. With Xander in the beginning, I used to go 5 hours between pumping and it didn't seem to affect my supply at all.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: I go back the week of 2/16. One of my coworkers just finished pumping for her third baby and another is pumping for her first right now - though she is having trouble and having to supplement. I'm so lucky to have them as resources!
honeydew / 7283 posts
@Adira: that's really good to hear that going 5 hours didn't hurt your supply! Obviously everyone's different, but that sort of timing makes it seem a lot more doable.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@BandDmommy: you really hit the jackpot with D! Was B like that too? I wouldn't mind having another one sooner if mine is STTN now lol!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: I have no idea if my company is strict about this break/pumping time. I need to save up all my days bc we are planning at long trip to Asia to meet great grandma at the end of the year. I would pump at my desk covered if I have to!!

@Adira: no wake ups and she is very content. She is easy baby. Her brother was easy baby too.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
K has been so fussy today! I would think she is done eating since she wasn't interested in 2nd breast, but then she won't sleep and fusses. I guess I am glad she is doing this now instead of at night, but it's just so hard to figure her out!
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@BandDmommy: no wakeups?!?!? I would have baby fever or at least would be on board with a third if my child slept even close to that well. I don't have easy babies. Or easy toddlers haha! Maybe adolescence will be easy!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@MrsF: Hopefully your supply will kettle you go 4-5 hours between pumping so that you won't have to do it too often.
@snowjewelz: Your work may not be as strict as mine. Ours has is listed in our Time Recording manual what to do for pump breaks, which is to use vacation time.
@BandDmommy: Jealous she's STTN already!
@snowjewelz: Logan is hard to figure out too. He acts hungry, then cries when I give him a boob. He acts tired and then is impossible to get to sleep. It's so frustrating.

@BandDmommy: that's awesome! And I thought we were doing good sleeping from around 7 or 2 or so. But it's at least a little inspiring to know that real sleep could be on the horizon

@BandDmommy: you are so lucky!
We had our first real outing today! We did some shopping and DH wore Micah so that I could try on clothes. Micah doesn't like his car seat but did well other than that!

@whenoceansrise: fun!
UM.. K has been sleeping for almost 4 hours now yet I woke myself up after 3 and am wide awake!! I think Im conditioned to wake up every 2-3 hrs, ahhhh!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@whenoceansrise: Fun! Bummer he doesn't like his carseat though.
@snowjewelz: Go K!!! The first time Logan slept that long, I kept waking up too.
So I said Logan was sick before, but I was wrong. NOW he is sick. Poor guy is so congested, he keeps waking up screaming because he can't breathe. I've had to NoseFrida him twice already and soooo much mucus comes out. Poor guy.
honeydew / 7283 posts
@whenoceansrise: sounds like fun!
@snowjewelz: ugh - it's horrible being up when you don't have to!
@Adira: oh no it's so hard to see them sick! I hope he's feeling better soon.

@whenoceansrise: didn't it feel Good to get outta the house?
@snowjewelz: that is how I was the first long stretch e gave me!!
@Adira: poor Logan!! And poor momma!! Hope you got some sleep and he is feeling better!
@BandDmommy: yay for having easy kids!!
Emily slept 7+ hours last night! I woke up 1/2 way through to pump! I probably could get 2 pump sessions during that time!! I will need to see if this continues!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cheert16: 7+ hours is great! I'm impressed you pumped while she was sleeping.
eggplant / 11861 posts
G slept from 10-4 now 5-SS :)))
I don't know what to do with myself.....lol
@snowjewelz: Nice, how long did the stretch last?
@cheert16: @cheert16: Nice, I should pump too...
@Adira: sorry about L
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@Adira: oh man! Thank goodness for nose frida! DH had to do it bc I never suck hard enough!
Kara had slept for 4 hrs before, I don't know why I woke myself up!
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
@cheert16: @FaithFertility: that is great! I'm so jealous! Though I'd be the kind to still wake up multiple times to make sure she was breathing lol.
What is the secret to them STTN!
nectarine / 2210 posts
@snowjewelz: I do that too! It normally takes me a few minutes to realize if I woke up to K crying or if I woke myself up.
As for last night, we didn't have the best of them. Normally I can feed her put her back in her crib and she'll go right back to sleep. But at 2 last night she decided she wasn't quite ready. It only took a few minutes of rocking to get her down, but I'm hoping this was a one time thing
