Not in our house but the owner of the family beach house died in one of the bedrooms! And she kept all of her dead cats buried in a pet cemetery in the back yard...

@MrsTiz: That creeps me out sooooo bad because of the Stephen King movie!

@MamaMoose: not always. If someone does from natural causes it doesn't have to be disclosed. If someone is murdered by someone who broke in or from something faulty in the home then it has to be disclosed. That's the way it is in Texas. Other states could be different.

@yoursilverlining: Wow! I don't think it's hokey. I think it's so interesting!
We're the first people to live in our apartment, so no deaths, except bugs! I've lived in so many houses in the past, so who knows about all those?!

@grizz: heh heh, The Clapper!
@avivoca: did it have all kinds of cool 50s stuff in it? I would have thought that was nifty!
@MaryM, wow that is an old house. What does it look like? It's pretty cool that it's been handed down like that. (And I'm sorry that your father is no longer with you.)
@Shutterbug: freaky!

we live in very, very old mill housing in a very, very old area. our house was built in the 1800s, so I'm assuming someone may have died here? maybe not but I don't want to know!!!!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: It wasn't cool 50's. The decor was just so, so old, the cabinets were the original metal cabinets, all the appliances were original, it was like the dowdy 1950's died in the house with the old lady. Not to mention that the heirs didn't clean out the fridge and when the real estate agent opened it, the smell of rotting meat permeated the entire house, further reminding you of death.

We built the house so no one has lived here be us. Only death was our fish

No, but someone somewhat famous was attacked in our old house by her ex-boyfriend. We read the police report (they are public where we lived and easily accessible) and my husband came back the next day with a huge bottle of bleach. We had thought the bank had attempted to kick in the downstairs garage door [it was a foreclosure], but found out it happened in the break-in.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: I pulled a couple photos from our reception. The front of the house hasn't changed much since the 1800s, except that it used to have two front doors and my parents changed it to only have one (it would have been weird to have doors into the living room and family room!)
The family room has been kept pretty original. The front rooms on the first and second level have the original log walls you can see there. And some of the original window casings still exist. Up close in the windows and the rafters in the attic you can see where they forced square pegs into round holes to hold them together. no nails!

@MamaMoose: @Leialou: I have been told that if you ask, they have to disclose it but if you don't ask, they don't.
Same with if it was a meth house in the past.

Nope, because it's brand new. I have a feeling someone may have in our previous home though.
I remember a few weeks ago this was brought up on a radio show. This woman rented an apartment where a serial rapist/murderer lived and only found out while watching a tv show (i guess they were doing a profile on him). I guess she had rented the place furnished and it was the same furniture and everything!! She tried to break the lease and who was the landlord? The mother of the rapist/murderer!
