What age did you allow LO to start picking out/dressing themselves? my 3 year old has been very adamant about "doing it herself" and that includes picking out. Today she's wearing black and silver polka dot pants, a pink striped dress over top, tall Olaf socks, and silver boots. It's a look that's for sure but not worth an argument in my mind!

3.5 and she doesn't get to pick yet. She picks the most terrible things when she does...

Probably around 2.5, Xander started having a real preference on his clothes, so we let him pick his shirt and underwear. Although when I want him to wear something in particular, I'll give him two options between the two things I'm okay with him wearing (like this month, his choices are all Christmas shirts, haha).

DS didn't care until sometime after 2. DD has been interested since 18 months or so. She mostly wants to do it herself. As long as they are weather appropriate, I don't care what they pick!

I will let her pick a dress/top and then I pick the pants/tights. Then if a couple shoes go with it, I let her choose. But it is very rare she picks the whole outfit. She did a couple weeks ago. Maroon and white striped dress, pink Hunter boots, and a neon pink vest. But we went to the grocery store, so I let it go.

She got really picky around 2.5 but has since gotten over it at almost three.

LO is 3 and doesn't yet but I don't want him to be in charge of that. I foresee it taking forever and causing fights and being a problem at this tough age. Maybe when he's a little older....

He has days where he wants to pick but he's fine if I suggest something else, he is very adamant about putting his clothes on himself sometimes though.

@hellobeeboston: this is our mornings...every morning. I used to get away with laying out piles of clothes and she could pick the pile, now i hear "I DON'T WANT THAT SHIRT" or "THOSE PANTS DON'T MATCH!" sigh....

Lo pretty much has no opinion and if he offers one (different shirt, different pants) I offer different options. but he doesn't really pick his own clothes yet at 3.

DD is just about 2 and has been picky for a couple months already. She's been putting on her pants mostly by herself for about a month and just started trying to do her shirt by herself, too, but hasn't quite figured it out. I'm guessing she'll be getting dressed completely independently within a couple months. Her outfits tend to be something pretty...special.

She is 2, and has a say in what she wants to wear. She can put leggings on herself but needs help with everything else. I'm sure she will be insisting on dressing herself by the time she's 3.

He doesn't really care at 3.5. Sometimes he has an opinion on a shirt so I just let him pick out another one. All of his clothes are mix and match so we don't have to worry about patterns mixing! He has a very boring wardrobe.

depends on the day. i usually bring down a few shirts to choose from that go with his pants, so he has some choice. He has some favourite shirts too and gets upset sometimes when they are in the wash. He never picks the whole outfit from head to toe, his pants are all pretty similar and his socks are pretty boring and standard.

I kind of wonder if this is a girl/boy thing?
At the 3 year appointment, my pediatrician asked if LO was dressing himself? I said no.... should I worried? He asked if LO was at least helping putting his legs and arms in the pants and sleeves. I said oh yeah he's doing that. Pediatrician asked if LO was picking out any clothes. I said no. He suggested that I give LO options and help him choose.
So now we ask what type of shirt he wants (long or short sleeves) and show him the one we will dress him in and if that's okay. Only a handful of times has he disagreed with us. He's catching on though. He starting to notice when DH puts him in non-matching PJs.

At 18 months, she can't dress herself yet, but we typically give her choices about what she's wearing. She loves to choose her clothes, and can already be rather particular about them!

It was never really a question of allowing it, but what she will allow me to do! Lol. She started refusing to wear anything but dresses a little before she turned three. We have stocked up on dresses that "twirl" to avoid morning tantrums

shes been wanting to dress herself since probably 2-2.5yo. a couple months shy of 3 she was adament on what she wore. in the summer, she wanted to wear either a skirt or dress every day, and would only wear character shirts. now in the winter, she wants to wear a skirt over leggings and a tunic or character shirt. its not worth the battle for me, but some days i cringe at what she chose. if it really clashes i'll try to talk her into something else. but as long as shes warm enough i let her choose
