A is turning 1 in a few weeks and I'm at a loss for what to get her, or what to suggest to those who've asked. She's #2, so we already have so much. People aren't really getting on board with the idea of just gifting her money for her savings account though 
We already have a wagon, 4-in-1 trike, water table, picnic table, plus a ton of inside toys like the little people bus and zoo and shape sorters and stackable toys.

I think this drum from Target is great for 1 year olds. It was a big hit among parents and a birthday girl. My 9 mos old enjoys some of the instruments and by 1 will like it even more.

My mom got DD an anywhere chair from PB for her 1st birthday - huge hit. A play kitchen that took awhile for her to like but at 2 she loves. We gave her a personalized name book.
Do you already have a convertible car seat? That would be a good one for people to go in on.

We actually thought about gifts that both kids could share in (18 month age gap), mostly things that could add to existing toys like: a few more trains or play food for their kitchen or more magnatiles.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: We had an instrument set, but I might have sold it. I'll have to check. E never really played with it, but A loves the instruments at school.
@catgirl: I feel like anywhere chairs are so expensive for what they are and I think we're going to wait a bit on the kitchen. I think that might be a next Christmas thing, but it's definitely on a "for the future" list.
@Mrs. Dolphin: We just converted the train table into a lego table for Christmas. Our oldest is 4.5, so there isn't a whole lot of toy sharing going on.

@kiddosc: I see similar chairs at Marshalls/TJ Maxx/Homegoods all the time. Also Target has an almost identical one. DD obviously doesn't care where it's form, she just likes having a chair in her size.

We suggest no gifts (esp. from friends) ... for family, art supplies, instruments, or membership gifts are always awesome!!

Is there anything that your older child has and plays with but the younger likes to steal?
My baby is going to turn one soon and as the second boy I'm not sure what we'd ask for him. I tend to put things on his wishlist that were things I had wanted for the older one but didn't receive.

Do you have a cozy coupe? That was DS' favorite gift that year and still gets used 2.5 years later.

Art supplies. They are consumable. Paint with water. Play doh. Sticker books.
Also I would be shameless about regifting some things for other birthday gifts.
Books. You can always rotate old ones out and replace them with new ones. I really hate excess toy clutter but I don't care if the bookshelf is overflowing.
Shortly after 1, my son started getting into duplos. He also liked building towers with his alphabet blocks.

Oh! If you want to suggest something bigger... I did not see a scooter (or helmet) on your list! My son was great on his scooter by 18mo. 12mo is a little early but it will definitely get use before age 2.
