@jaguar: I haven't tested. My doc had me do an HCG booster 5 days after trigger, so I was concerned about a false positive or too early negative. I'm a little tempted to do it tonight or tomorrow, but if it's negative, having blood drawn will be so sad. Also, tomorrow is the anniversary of when DH and I met, so tomorrow might be luckier.

@AmeliaBedilia: Having gone to a blood draw where I tested negative before I went, I can say that I would not test early again. It sucked to cry through the blood draw.

@agold: thanks for the reinforcement!
@jaguar: thanks! I want us all to be on the October board so badly!

@AmeliaBedilia: @agold: I've had so many negative betas, I've done it both ways. For me, peeing early actually helped.. because getting a crushing 'it's negative' over the phone when I was holding out hope was REALLY devastating.
There's no good way of preparing for a negative though, let's face it.
Not that you'll have to worry about that! *being positive*

@jaguar: @agold: @AmeliaBedilia: Last time I waited till after I got the blood draw, drove home and did a test. It was negative, and while there's always the possiblity that it could still be a positive beta, I was much more prepared for "that call" later that night. I was glad I did it. I have a feeling I'll be testing prior this time, but even if I don't. I'll definitely be checking right after the beta. Though it's always what you feel most comfortable doing. a negative is devastating no matter how you get the news.

@GreenThumb: Dang - I'm SO sorry! There is no other way to put it, except that this sucks! Please take care of yourself, while you grieve and process this.
@AmeliaBedilia: Thinking of you and sending you good wishes for tomorrow!! I did take a test before my negative beta, but it was because I knew that I would be at work and couldn't handle getting the news there (I don't have an office). I cannot wait to hear how it ends up!

@Mrs. Pinky: Congrats on that awesome beta!! With such a late beta, I wonder how many could be in there? Congrats!!

@AmeliaBedilia: curious why the HCG booster after trigger? Any info on that?
nectarine / 2192 posts
@waiting4you: my doc does it if estrogen is under 2000. Promotes more estrogen and progesterone production that is more physiologic. He had me do one for my IUIs due to a short luteal phase.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Do you do estrogen and progesterone shots in addition to the HCG hormone boost?
nectarine / 2192 posts
@agold: progesterone but not estrogen.
I seem to be bloating more, food is agreeing less with me, and I have had 2 days this week (Saturday and today) where I've had a few belches (very rare). While it could be progesterone, most of it seems to be this week, not last. I've never been so happy to feel crappy after eating. We'll find out tomorrow if I'm pregnant or crazy tomorrow (or maybe both).

Thanks for all your support this week. We are sad but not devastated as we know that this is the price of the IVF business having been through 6 transfers now. And we know we are super lucky to still have 3 high quality embryo chances at all of this. I called the RE this morning and we'll have a follow-up in late Feb and then move onto a frozen cycle for April at the earliest. I hate the delay, but they want a full natural cycle before starting the 6-8 week prep for transfer. One more beta tomorrow (they need to see it <5) and then hopefully AF next week. I'm going to put some effort into getting into an exercise routine and sewing some clothes for my DD that I've put off while being consumed with this cycle.

@GreenThumb: I've been thinking of you so much and I'm happy to know that you do have some frozen snowflakes ready and waiting for you. I have a hard time remembering who has what going on, but I know that you can do this. It's a good idea to take care of yourself while you wait. I have a 3 month break between IVF cycles and am doing some exercising. It feels so good to finally do something for myself. Hugs

@GreenThumb: as Northstar said, my heart is still hurting for you. I forgot that you still had a few frosties available. While a negative is never good, it's comforting to know you've still got options...and hope! I agree that taking time off is hard, but getting back to "you" for a bit will be a nice change of pace. And very exciting that you have some sewing projects to keep you busy ( you should show us some pics of your work!!!) Hope everything goes smoothly with the second beta and you have a nice relaxing weekend full of "you" time.
pear / 1986 posts
@NorthStar: @waiting4you: Thank you for your thoughts. My nurse was really sweet and said that she will do everything she can to make it more like 6 weeks than 8 for the FET prep. DD was from a frozen cycle after my first fresh failed, so I can definitely hold out a lot of hope that the next one will work! The good thing is that DH and I are on the same page. 1. Get this FET done (possibly 1 more). 2. Hope for the best. 3. Move on with our lives knowing we tried our absolute best whatever the outcome.
ETA: Also good thing it is tax refund season and DH's bonus season or we would not be happy about paying all this money once again!

@GreenThumb: I'm so happy to hear that you have three awesome looking frozen embryos just waiting to be given a chance. I'm now a firm believer in FETs. Look at the 6/8 week rest as something that is best for the frozen embryos. I say you get into a good every day work out routine and get yourself feeling great before heading into the FET. Tax refunds and a bonus are just icing on the cake! Wishing you the best of luck!!

@GreenThumb: @agold: @NorthStar: I agree with that rest is best, even though it's so hard! With all of my OHSS and then cyst issues, I was sort of forced into three or so month wait between ER/freeze-all and FET. Even though my mind suffered some, my body and the hopefully-still-growing-bean(s) seem to have benefited! @GreenThumb: @NorthStar: I am so hopeful for you both!

Question--So our current score is two failed FETs and 1 remaining frozen embryo (no obvious reason--"textbook" lining, genetically tested embryos, eating well, etc, etc). Possibly just bad odds. Would you get a second opinion at this point before using up your 1 remaining embryo? We are undecided on doing a whole additional cycle (retrieval/transfer) because I had really bad side effects thanks to all the meds.

I read through all your comments, but being new to this I don't really have anything much to add except good luck to @AmeliaBedilia: on your Beta
AFM: I started stims last night! Thought the Follistim was worse than the Ganrilex I did a few night ago before we figured out my weird false estrogen test situation, but overall not bad. Here's to a good response from me, sperm from DH's mTESE (hopefully lots in case we need it) and some (or at least one) healthy embryo to transfer!
persimmon / 1132 posts
@Aqualov: Wishing you so much luck to a great response for you... and a great turnout for your DH's procedure! Finally, it's your turn!
@endymion4: I hadn't realized you already had two failed PGD FETs! I'm so sorry this is so hard and I agree with you about another fresh cycle! (For some reason, I remember you had one FET back in the fall, but I hadn't realized that you had another. Hard to keep us all straight!) I would probably be asking other opinions, even if I probably were going to stay with the current RE for a third FET. They might be able to recommend something that you can bounce off of your RE. Did you change anything between FET 1 and 2? (i.e. Crinone vs PIO?)
kiwi / 538 posts
@endymion4: I would maybe ask your dr about the ERA test. It's a test they do to see if you are the most receptive on the day they are doing the transfer. I did a lot of Googling about it and it seems to have helped a lot of people. I did it after my first failed FET using a PGD tested 5AA embryo. It came back as "receptive"- which was kind of disappointing (had hoped we would have a real reason why the 1st one failed) but at least know the next time time that we are doing everything we can to try and make it successful. I also don't plan on ever doing a fresh round again so we are very protective of those remaining PGD tested embryos as well :). If you want any more details about it let me know.

@Amorini: The only thing that changed before 1 & 2 and that I was a lot healthier the second time around! Separate from the IVF just testing to see if I have any food sensitivities with a nutritionist, I cut out dairy, soy, grains, beans, sugar, etc, etc.
@dookie32: would love any info you think is helpful. re had mentioned it between 1 and 2, but didn't think it was necessary because everything looked so good (but clearly that's not enough :p)

Negative. I'm devastated. I'm in shock. I can't believe it. My doc is in surgery but the nurse called me with the numbers before (I had begged). One of the questions is whether we can redraw my natural killer cells to find out if they were low enough. They can't do that today but could next week if RE agrees. I'm also going to ask about DHEA- we did it this time, but I know it's controversial so maybe we shouldn't. I'm also wondering about using human growth hormone. One one hand, I want to quit, crawl into bed and never get out. On the other, I want to try again ASAP. My RE does it in batches. The next round of stims starts 2/6. I have a work trip 2/4-2/6. The following round, stims start 2/27.

Just got a call that my doc is in between surgeries, but he wants me to continue progesterone over the weekend and recheck Monday since my beta was 2.3 and progesterone 24. I don't see the point, but whatever. Lowest beta at this stage that went on to have a successful pregnancy was 4. This sucks.

@AmeliaBedilia: omg - I'm SO sorry, hun..is anyone with you? I know that you have so many questions, but try to process this. I'll be thinking of you..
pear / 1986 posts
@endymion4: I would maybe get a second opinion (or even two) just to hear another if another professional has something to suggest. I did that after my first two failed FETs just to ease my mind. In the end we still went with our original RE and protocol, but it did give me a vote of confidence that we were making an informed decision.
Have you tried acupuncture at all? Has adding metformin been suggested? Have clotting disorders been ruled out?
Also just wanted to offer HUGS!
pear / 1986 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Oh no! My heart breaks all over again today hearing this. I am just so sorry. I know words on a page do not offer much help, but we are all here for you.
ETA: Yes, yes, yes to asking a lot of questions when the time is right, but also take some time to make sure you are ok and your body is in the best place to make this happen next time.
persimmon / 1132 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: I have been on pins and needles all day for you. I am so, so sorry. It's just not fair. None of it.
apricot / 365 posts
@GreenThumb: yes, I did acupuncture for both transfers.
Metformin has not been suggested--what is it used for? Before we did anything they ran a whole clotting panel
