IVF Thread #4

@Mrs Lavender: Oooo! That's a wonderful update! Out of curiosity, did they give you more detail on your abnormals? We had 3 that were abnormal, and all would have resulted in MC, none compatible with life. I was glad we did the PGS testing if nothing else to avoid those inevitable MCs.

For our trip, we are looking at flying into Miami, renting a JEEP Wrangler and then driving to Key West. Only hiccup is that I'll likely need to get a progesterone level drawn while gone, and there's no Labcorp down in The Keys. Going to talk to my RE tomorrow morning about potentially using a trigger shot to make sure all the timing works out ok.

@rousseae: Eeeek! You should jump on the Nov POAS board - they could use some BFPs! http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/november-2018-poas/page/17

@Mrs Lavender: So excited to see your update! January will be here before you know it.

    @rousseae: Fingers crossed for you!

@yellowbeach: Keeping my fingers crossed this time's the charm for you. Enjoy your trip!

In hindsight I kind of wish we'd done PGS testing, too, because now I can't help but be nervous not knowing. At the time, it was hard to justify the cost with just 1 embryo.

    @MamaBear87: @yellowbeach: @Mrs. Pajamas: @rousseae: @foodiebee: Thanks ladies!! 😊

@yellowbeach: That sounds like sooo much fun!! I flew into the keys when I went but would of loved to drive in! I hear it’s pretty amazing. I hope you can make it happen! Regarding our abnormals... one had more than 5 chromosomal issues (they didn’t list them out) and would not have implanted. The other two had very rare chromosomal issues and would most likely not implant or end in MC. Not compatible with life. The ones that were abnormal were actually 2 of our best rated embryos. I’m glad we did the PGS testing all for the same reasons.

@foodiebee: If I were in your situation, I would of done the transfer like you did. Even though we did PGS testing and the odds are in our favor with our normal embryos, there is still a small chance something could be wrong. We are still planning to do all the non invasive first trimester screens then go from there. I think the fear you are having is totally normal! Infertility definitely screws with our heads! How’s your morning sickness?

  7. Mrs. Pajamas

    kiwi / 702 posts

@foodiebee: not to be a downer but more to support/reality check...I had 2 failed FETs with PGS-tested embryos so just because they are normal through PGS does NOT guarantee a BFP or baby. Same for you, right @yellowbeach?

  8. Mrs Lavender

    apricot / 302 posts

@Mrs. Pajamas: I swear it’s all a roll of the dice. That’s what it feels like at least.

  9. Mrs. Pajamas

    kiwi / 702 posts

@Mrs Lavender: absolutely. so so awful. But so is getting pregnant the "normal" way...they (those damn fertile people) just have the gift of ignorance

  10. foodiebee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@Mrs. Pajamas: Oh yes, totally understand. I suppose I meant that I'd know about chromosomal abnormalities before having to do first trimester testing and such.

@Mrs Lavender: Meh. I'm still nauseated every day, especially at night. My dr said my body is just really unhappy to be pregnant.

@Mrs. Pajamas: yep. 2 failed PGS normal envies. DD was untested. Just got lucky.

So we have a plan for this cycle. Going to start estrogen pills today and ramp up per a schedule. Repeat US a week from today to make sure lining is building and I don’t look like I’m threatening to ovulate. Tentative FET will be 12/3. He usually only gives us the option of transferring one. He’s willing to let us do two, but still recommends transferring just one. I’ll take IM progesterone in the butt to support after transfer. Beta is we end up transferring on 12/3 will be 12/12.

I’m pretty sure I still only want to transfer one. Really don’t want twins for health reasons (mine and theirs). And would also be afraid if we have a cycle where I get sick or for some reason the environment just isn’t hospitable, then we lose two, and only have two left.

@yellowbeach: So sorry I keep missing the updates in this thread. Hooray for a plan! We just finished our PIO shots and boy, was I glad to be done with them. I feel for you. I agree about transferring one. It'd be great news to get right around the holidays!

  14. Mrs Lavender

@yellowbeach: Keeping you in my thoughts for your upcoming transfer. The 3rd is right around the corner!

@foodiebee: Up to how many weeks did you take your POI shots?

  15. foodiebee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@Mrs Lavender: We got to stop at 8 weeks. I think we started like 3 days after retrieval? I'd have to look back, but it was early and felt like FOREVER. I basically had some sort of shot every night for Sept-part of Nov.

Had a TVUS this morning and my lining is on track = 7.4 mm and needs to be at least 8 for transfer, so plenty of time to get there. Still awaiting result of serum estradiol level, but she said she wants to see it over 100 or else she'll add on vaginal estrogen.

  17. Mrs Lavender

    apricot / 302 posts

@foodiebee: You are so lucky you get to stop at 8! I think I have to go to 12 weeks. I'm really nervous about POI.

@yellowbeach: Sounds like you are right on track! Yay!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Ugh talk me off the ledge ladies... US looked good this morning - lining was 10mm and trilaminar, but estradiol today (CD15) is only 193. They said they wanted it over 200 to keep going as planned. Do you think they will cancel our transfer cycle for this, push it back or just add additional estrogen? Now I'm worried.

  19. Mrs. Pajamas

    kiwi / 702 posts

@yellowbeach: unless there's some scheduling issue I would stick with your RE's guidelines and go scream somewhere in frustration (you are always welcome here!). There's a reason they watch lining, E2, P, etc. It sucks big time, believe me I get it, but no need to worry. Let them do the analysis and you just take care of DD and your next LO will come soon. I was in a serious serious time crunch (moving across country from my embryos/beloved RE) 2 years ago and my cycle was cancelled due to a small cyst. I was beyond pissed and panicked. But next cycle I got my BFP literally the day our moving truck arrived and now she's almost 18 months. Can't believe it! Stay strong girl....you got this!

@Mrs Lavender: Yuuuuck. My tips are to ice your bum for 10 minutes before the shot. Really helped. Then massage really well (for like 5 minutes) after the shot. Make sure the shot goes in with the long tip down. Honestly, you will get used to it, even if it never stops sucking. ETA: My dr never seemed to think the PIO would impact my symptoms all that much, but I'm convinced that having all the IVF hormones + extra PIO hormones + pregnancy hormones are what's made my first trimester so darn hard. Just keep that in mind if your symptoms feels strong from the beginning.

@yellowbeach: Ditto what's already been said. I totally get panicking, but 193 feels awfully close to 200. I don't know anything about these numbers and am not educated on it at all, but it feels so close to me that I really hope they don't cancel on you!

  21. Mrs Lavender

    apricot / 302 posts

@yellowbeach: Sorry to hear! Hopefully they won't have to cancel and it will just be pushed back. I was told if my lining and levels are not where they need to be at lining check they will push transfer back a week.

@foodiebee: Thanks for the tips. Have you done PIO yourself? We just found out DH will be traveling the week after transfer. So I will need to do my own PIO for 4 days. I'll have my clinic train me on what to do, but I really don't want to do it myself. I have no one else who I would trust to give it to me either. I know I'll have to get over it... I'm just annoyed.

  22. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

Phew - they just called. Apparently since my lining was 10 mm and trilaminar and it just needs to be at least 8mm, he's fine with the estradiol level of 193. Apparently he wanted it "close to 200" not "at least 200" as I apparently heard in my head. So Transfer is scheduled for Dec. 3 at 1:30 pm! The the PIO stabbing begin!

@yellowbeach: thinking of you! I hope this transfer goes smoothly and successfully! fwiw, your lining sounds great to me. A couple tips for PIO: inject into the bottom of your "muffin top" towards your hip. I haven't gotten any knots this time around since doing the injections a bit higher. I warm the filled syringe in a heating pad before injecting and massage the site with a hot, wet washcloth immediately after for a minute.

A little update from me, we had our first u/s today at 5w4d-- identical twins!

@rousseae: So did you find out the sex before transfer? Or were you waiting for a positive?

  29. Mrs Lavender

    apricot / 302 posts

@rousseae: Congrats! How exciting! Also curious if you found out the sex?! I know it's rare, but I've heard pgs tested embryos are more likely to split. Wishing you a very healthy pregnancy!

  30. rousseae

@Sams Mom: @Mrs Lavender: we found out before- it was our third (and last) girl embryo. I have a 2.5 yo son and 1 remaining boy embryo I never expected it to split! My RE said he hasn't seen this scenario in a long while

@rousseae: that's so exciting! I have a 2.5 year old son also and I love him more than anything but I really hope to get a girl whenever I finally get pregnant

@Sams Mom: I totally get this!
@yellowbeach: very surprising! I’ve only been pregnant once before with my son and it was a really easy pregnancy- praying for the same this time! The 2 transfers before this were a chemical and a BFN so no real symptoms. So far I feel fine!
