@twodoghouse: thanks for checking in! No good news to report, BFN this morning at 7dp5dt and I have some bright red spotting/maybe AF. I sort of came to terms with this cycle not working yesterday, so I'm ok. I have a follow up with the RE on Feb 7th and hopefully we'll do another round in March.

@kentuckygirl: @Happygal: @SweetiePie: @LovelyPlum: @twodoghouse: @spaniellove: @littlek: thank you girls so much Just got the official negative beta news, but I'm doing ok, because I got AF on Saturday and I've already had my sad day(s).

A question for any ladies who have done IVF more than once... how many cycles did you have to take off in between? I was under the impression from my RE that I could start up on BCP this cycle and do another round of IVF next cycle. The nurse just told me that no, I need to have a natural cycle, then a cycle on BCP, which puts my next IVF cycle in late March/early April. I know one more cycle is no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I just don't want to wait anymore (plus April is the 2 year mark, which doesn't help...)

@Shutterbug: Oh no! This just broke my heart. I am so so sorry that this first round didn't work for you. I know there probably isn't anything I can say to make you feel better, but I wish I could give you a real life hug right now
    Love you!

@Shutterbug: I'm so sorry about your negative. My fresh cycle failed in August. I got my period the first week of September. I went back on birth control in November and did a FET in December. My RE was ok with my going straight back on bc after the negative, but I wanted a month off.

@Shutterbug: Sorry you had to get the confirmation. I think even when you think you're okay it can hit you more than once. I've heard of it being done both ways, so hopefully they can get on the same page about your treatment. Are you going to meet with them before you start another cycle to figure out what can be done differently?

@Shutterbug: Our RE does not require us to take time off in between. After our first failed fresh cycle, we went straight into BCP for three weeks and then into the meds for the FET. After that failed, we went straight into BCP again (i think starting on CD3 or 4?) for three weeks and now I'm taking Lupron for nine days before going in for an ultrasound and bloodwork to see if we are ready to start Bravelle and Menopur again. I think it varies with every clinic, and with every cycle as they try to find the thing that will work.

@Shutterbug: @Happygal: Thanks for checking in Sorry to keep you hanging, busy day!

So the appointment went well! Everything is on track, albeit only 5w6d so not a lot to check up on, but everything measures and appears as it should.
Pretty anticlimactic appointment though, and honestly I felt like my RE was pretty blasé about the whole thing. I guess I thought he'd be all like "Behold, the life I put inside of you!" and it would be very exciting and celebratory and we'd be high-fiving. But he was just like "yep, its a uterine pregnancy. That's good. Here's the sac. That's good. You can start to see a fetal pole but its too early to see much. Everything is exactly as expected at this stage. Come back in 2 weeks". And that was it. Ha.
So I'm happy to have confirmed that I didn't take 523 faulty pregnancy tests and there actually is something growing in there. But it was kinda quick and business-like.

I'm still skeptical of things going well - our next appointment will be exactly 7w3d and that's the exact week/day I was in our FIRST pregnancy when we found out I'd probably miscarry. And I did. So that's kinda scary. But I guess that until something goes wrong, I'm pregnant and I just have to hang on to that!

@SweetiePie: I'm sorry there wasn't as much as excitement at your appointment, but I'm so glad baby is looking good. I'm sure it will be more emotional when you see the heartbeat at your next appointment!

@twodoghouse: I'm so not complaining, I hope it doesn't sound like I am Obviously we're thrilled and baby is on track and doc had all good things to say. It was just different than I imagined Although I couldn't even tell you what I imagined!

@SweetiePie: yeah! That's great news. My RE is not warm and fuzzy, and I imagine the exact same scenario. She said she could care for me for my first trimester, and I imagine it being all business. We'll just be your cheering section for you! Hooray for growing baby, hooray!

I know these are two totally different things, but it was totally anti-climatic when I defended my dissertation. Ok, they said, we liked this, what about that?, change these things....you're done! I walked out in the hall and felt like there should be a band playing and confetti and people cheering.

  35. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@Happygal: Hahaha yes exactly! Although I think the dissertation would almost feel more like that! Soooo much work and stress goes into that and then all the sudden it's over. My brother in law said something similar.
And not to get too far off topic, but my brother is doing his this spring....and he's actually undergrad! Isn't that crazy?!? They are having him defend a dissertation to prepare for grad school. Not sure if it's his major or a particular class but that sounded wild to me. Maybe I've just been out of school for too long and it's normal now

  36. Happygal

    pomelo / 5000 posts

@SweetiePie: whoah, that is intense! What college is it, and is it assumed most people are going to grad school? I had a senior capstone project just for my major, but I didn't defend it. I can see it being good practice for a job interview.

@SweetiePie: congratulations!! I'm sorry that it was anticlimactic, but you're right-you're pregnant, lovely lady!

@Happygal: it's off topic, but this makes me really sad. When I'm finally done with this damn PhD, I want a freaking parade, darn it!!! Although, I know that good advisors don't let you defend until you're for sure going to pass, but STILL. I am giving my 20s to this thing, I want some acknowledgment of it!

@LovelyPlum: my advice--celebrate turning the beast in! There's no "pass" or "fail" for turning something in, and it's such a relief. I had my good friends meet out at my favorite restaurant, people brought little gifts, and I felt so relaxed.
