@tequiero21: interesting! I think our clinic has a similar protocol to @twodoghouse: where they only do day 3 if there aren't enough embryos to let them keep going to day 5. We're planning to only put back one if we make it to day 5, but if we transfer on day 3 we may do 2 (if the quality isn't great). Really I'm probably going to do whatever the RE and embryologist recommend.

@tequiero21: Interesting! Our embryos didn't continue to grow well to day 5 and we only ended up freezing one, so I'm of course very glad they made the call to transfer on day 3!

@tequiero21: We ended up doing a day 4 because when they considered a day 3 we still had enough left, but they just weren't sure about the quality. The other two never made it to day 5 and I have a feeling the ones they transferred didn't either and the lab knew they wouldn't but they wanted to transfer something.

@Shutterbug: too bad I didn't know about this to ask them. They just said to wait to see if it's a 3 day vs 5 day and said that they were ready for 3 and we didn't question it. Good luck with deciding one or two! Can't say I'm not rooting for two! Lol.

@twodoghouse: phew! Glad u have your two! Do u think u will use the last one? Or is this it for u?

We put in 2 and froze all 6 but let them go a year later. I do feel sad we had to let them go. I feel like they were my babies.

@spaniellove: I've heard some places to day 4 too. It sucks because I feel like your clinic really screwed u and u didn't need them to get pregnant!

@tequiero21: We are planning on these two being it for us, but I guess we'll keep our options open for a little while. We always said 2 kids anyways, just never imagined they'd both come at the same time!

Yes I tested again! Obviously, I'm obsessed!

@shutterbug: are you continuing to feel better today? What was rough about yesterday?

  17. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@Happygal: I am definitely feeling better, but still crampy and sore. Yesterday I felt fine when I was in recovery and when I first got home, but by last night I couldn't quite stand up straight and I was very sore. I ended up taking a Vicodin (prescribed by the RE of course) before bed and I woke up feeling way better.

@Happygal: oh haha yeah! I had visions of us waiting for the bfp together but in reality I was so excited that the morning after my super faint squinter it was so much darker. So I walked into the bedroom and waved the pee stick in front of his face. His response: "The doctor told you not to do that!" Isn't that special.

To be honest, he's a little damaged by our past experiences. He says he can't feel truly excited until 12 weeks. I know that will change once we have a couple of good ultrasounds. But I get it for now...we've done the excited giddy bfp twice and it's ended in heartbreak. So he's being cautious.

@Shutterbug: Im glad you're feeling better! I also had a hard time the night and day after the retrieval. I just felt so sore and swollen and bloated. So I think that's normal! Only a few days till transfer!!! Yay!

  19. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Shutterbug: Glad you're feeling better today. I felt pretty awful from retrieval until a few days after transfer, so just be prepared that it could be like that for you. My dr said after you take the eggs out of the follicles, they fill up with fluid which makes you still feel full and achy for a while. Did you say you'd hear from the embryologist again today? Let us know what you find out about 3 day or 5 day!

@SweetiePie: My husband was also concerned that I had tested when the doctor told us not to. He didn't quite believe it until the betas came back and even after that he was still very cautiously optimistic for a long time. I'm sure every week that passes and the closer you get to the safe zone will make him feel better! Do you still have betas to do? When will your first appointment be?

@twodoghouse: thanks! Yeah, I'm still worried I might have a bit of OHSS (mild, of course). I've gained about 2 lbs since ER, but they had said look for a gain of 2+ lbs per day for 2 or more days, and that hasn't been the case for me so far. I'm back at work today, but I still don't feel 100%. I'll hear back this afternoon from the embryologist about how the embryos are doing and when the transfer will be. It's so crazy to think that my possible future child(ren) are just hanging out in a petri dish about 10 miles away from me right now, haha!

@shutterbug: awesome about the 5 day transfer! Oh.. and I also got ohss symptoms both times we did ER. The first time was bad in that I had internal bleeding that was causing pain in other parts of my body, like my side, back and shoulder. Pain was shooting up into my shoulder, and it felt like a gun shot. The second time we did ER, I had a lot of bloating and they did an u/s and found a lot of fluid buildup in my abdomen and up near my liver (which explained my distended stomach and extreme shortness of breath after taking only a few steps). It went away after about a week. Hopefully you don't have anything close to that and are feeling better already!

Just got back from my embryo transfer! We transferred one early blastocyst (I think they said stage 2?) and they're watching two other early blastocysts to potentially freeze tomorrow. Here's the requisite embryo pic!

    @Shutterbug: Awwww hi little embryo!
Do you think you'll wait till beta or POAS? And when is your first beta?

How does everyone get these embryo pics??? I saw mine on a screen before they put it in but I never got a pic of it.

@SweetiePie: I'll def POAS before the beta (which is on Jan 27th). When did you get your BFP? How many dpt? I did a trigger though, and I didn't test it out, so I think I'll test on Tuesday to make sure it's out of my system. Oh and about the embryo picture, the embryologist gave it to me when he introduced himself.

With my last transfer, I didn't poas at all bc I knew it'd drive me crazy. I was somehow able to hold out until the beta. Good luck!

@Shutterbug: yay! I am 36 weeks pregnant with what was once an early grade 2 blast upon transfer!

  39. SweetiePie

    honeydew / 7463 posts

@Shutterbug: Well I started POAS at 3dp5dt but I did a frozen transfer hence no trigger. I got my first faint positive at 4dp5dt. And it got considerably darker by 5dp5dt.
    FX so hard for you!
