@JoyfulKiwi: Not really, but DS is going to transition to a queen bed, which will function as a second guest room for times when we have a lot of guests (It is pretty common for us to have one whole side of the family visit us at a time). We plan on having DS sleep on an air mattress elsewhere.

@travellingbee: gew, I would not want to do those poses with reflux like that; that sounds miserable! You do have lots of time and maybe other things will be just as effective.
@mdf106: I wish we had gotten our son a queen when he moved to a real bed; we went with a twin. What were we thinking?!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@mdf106: same. We just moved DS to a queen that will double duty as a guest bed.
clementine / 828 posts
@JoyfulKiwi: We already have the queen bed, so we are partly doing this to avoid having to buy a new bed.

@travellingbee: What about seeing a Webster-Breech trained Chiropractor and seeing if you can get him to flip that way?
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@kristinleigh: yeah if he's still breech at 32 weeks I will.

Hi ladies! I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far It has been a crazy few days over here. The good news is that I passed my gestational diabetes test which I was nervous about for some reason. Unfortunately baby's arrhythmia sounds pretty bad again and our Dr sent us to the hospital for more monitoring. When we got there her heart was beating really really fast and we were sent to another hospital with a big cardiac department for testing and possible treatment. We stayed overnight for monitoring and lots of ultrasounds. Thankfully her heart seemed to normalize on its own (the arrhythmia is still there but the doctors aren't too concerned about just the arrhythmia) so they didn't do any treatment and will just keep monitoring her for now. We will likely have ultrasounds 1-3x per week to keep an eye on things. I am a nervous wreck but trying to stay positive and calm. Please send positive thoughts our way! I hope everyone else is doing well - I cant believe the third trimester is here (or almost here)!!
apricot / 369 posts
@travellingbee: I wanted to tell you that babies still flip around a lot at this stage so try not to worry. We had multiple ultrasounds in a 24 hr period and baby went from breech to sideways to head down - it was strange to see all of that movement is happening in there And I really had no idea based on her movements that she was doing that!

Is anyone else noticing hiccups? Baby had them a few times this week and it is so cute (but also a little weird). She had them once when we were hooked up to the monitors at the hospital so now I know that I'm not crazy and she's actually hicciping
nectarine / 2667 posts
@lauren0817: her heart issue sounds very stressful! I'm sorry you're going through that. Hopefully all that monitoring will show good results and be a calming thing. My first son had hiccups all the time and he would still get them when he was a newborn!
I can't believe it's already the third trimester! I've gotten the nesting urge badly and am organizing like crazy, even at work. I feel like January is so far away, but I know that when the holiday season kicks in a few weeks from now it'll go by in a flash.
Anyone else having naming issues? Or first was So Easy to name - we both agreed and that was that. I thought husband and I were agreed on a name for this little one, but now he won't commit to it. My son keeps insisting on calling her Pancake, so we've got a sweet nickname, but I just want to decide already!
pomegranate / 3604 posts
@lauren0817: what exactly are they checking for?
Nesting has hit me HARD. Trying ssooooo hard to resist buying stuff for the baby's room buuuut I fail.
We've decided between two first names and a definite middle name. We'll choose the final name when we see him.
apricot / 369 posts
@JoyfulKiwi: thank you so much for thinking of us Yes those hiccups are pretty funny! I know what you mean about January seeming so far away, but it will be here so soon - I can't quite wrap my head around it all just yet
We are also having naming issues - we both have a name we love, it's just not the same one We have started working on the nursery and that seems easier than coming up with more names right now, but I know we need to revisit that soon!
apricot / 369 posts
@sera_87: they are looking for any signs of fetal distress - the main thing would be fluid buildup in different places that would indicate her blood flow is being impaired by the heart issues. Apparently babies (and I guess adults as well) can tolerate short periods of very rapid heart rates, but it will cause very serious issues if it happens continually. It is all so overwhelming and scary, but I am trying to focus on the fact that she seems to be tolerating everything right now.
That's awesome you have two name options picked out! Yeah the nesting is ridiculous - I want to throw out everything we have at the house and buy lots of baby stuff instead
Are you having weekly ultrasounds now? My doctor mentioned 2-3x per week, but I guess I'll see what they say on Monday...
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@JoyfulKiwi: We are also having naming issues. I'd rather just commit to something and DH is very non-committal about it. Grrr... We've narrowed it down, but he just won't pull the trigger on anything.
@lauren0817: Yeah, it just makes me nervous because he has literally been in the same position for over a month. I have felt his head and feet in the same position everyday. So sorry about your LO's heart issues. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

@travellingbee: Thank you for thinking of us! Its awesome you can figure out where he is lying! I cant really figure it out most of the time Hoping little man flips around soon

About baby position: Mine was transverse frank breech at 26 weeks; I can't imagine that's comfortable! I read that was really common at this stage and they don't settle down / pick a position until much later.
@joyfulkiwi: We're doing a combo nursery and guest room, too. I think part of it is multi-functional furniture. The room has two bookcases, a desk, a full bed, and a crib. The bookcases are for baby/kid books & have fabric cubes for clothes storage. The desk is being used as a changing table, with shelves/drawers used for diapers, wipes, powder, rash cream, etc. The full bed has built-in storage underneath. The crib is a "mini" crib. We took off the doors of the closet and the crib is in there. We also have to put up some shelving, I think.
@lauren0817: wow, that sounds like such a scary experience, all the heart monitoring in the hospital. Thankfully the doctors will be monitoring! They haven't figured out why the arrhythmia exists, right? So will she have to do some special testing after being born? And yes, my LO is having hiccups! Usually about 5AM in the morning when I'm trying to sleep but baby is healthy and moving, so that's what matters.
Speaking of trying to sleep.... I guess the 3rd trimester is really here. I have to pee every 1-2 hours and I'm waking up at least 2 times a night to use the bathroom, as well. It's so difficult to take bathroom breaks as a teacher, but at least I'm only one room away from the staff restroom.
apricot / 369 posts
@DesertDreams88: wow it sounds like you guys are very organized! Can't wait until everyone starts to post nursery pics
Yeah no idea why the arrhythmia happens, but apparently it is pretty common and usually harmless. They told us that only 1% of babies with this particular type of arrhythmia go on to have the heart issues she seems to be having (with the extremely fast heart rate) - I wish we weren't in that 1%
Haha yeah the bathroom breaks are pretty frequent! And I've been so thirsty as well so I'm drinking tons of water which isn't helping that whole situation

@travellingbee: The long answer - Based on when I know I ovulated and we BD'd I thought the due date should have been early January. But the dating ultrasound put it at the end of December (I believe it's b/c I have big babies but who knows?). And since it's a scheduled c-section and to avoid Christmas, we are having the baby in mid-December. Also the due date is my DD #1's exact birthday so a c-sec on that day is definitely a no-go. And also they only do planned c-secs on Wednesdays!
I just read a baby update that baby is supposedly supposed to triple in weight from now. SERIOUSLY? I can barely walk... I've been through this before I know, but, I guess I forgot but I just feel enormous.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@gracecat: gotcha. Yeah my scans always say end of December too so we'll see! I know when I ovulated because we were using fertility treatments. but I'll take a December baby! I'm already sick of pregnancy!
clementine / 878 posts
@travellingbee: me too. I feel like the surgery day is quite a bit early but part of me is relieved I don't have to wait until I go into labor naturally. Because for me the first time it took until 42 weeks and 5 days. Not. Fun.

Did my glucose test on Saturday.. just got called that I passed with a whopping 48, lol! Always been hypoglycemic so it was expected. I had two eggs with cheese, whole grain toast with natural PB an hour before I went in. Ate my jelly beans, waited an hour and got my blood draw done! Super happy I passed.

@lauren0817: I am thinking of you.
@JoyfulKiwi: We are having some naming issues. We have not settled on a name, although at this point we only have one contender for first name. Naming our first was much easier.
@DesertDreams88: I have to pee more like every 45 minutes or so, especially if I am drinking enough to not be constantly thirsty.
I went on a trip this weekend, and it was much tougher on me than I expected. I don't have any more travel planned for this pregnancy, we are making everyone come to us (we prefer to host anyways).
apricot / 369 posts
@kristinleigh: thank you so much
Happy to hear your glucose test went okay! I had to do the drink, but it actually wasn't *too* bad - it tasted like flat orange soda and it was cold which I think helped.
@mdf106: thank you so much - I really appreciate it!
We had an appointment this morning and everything looked fine - the arrhythmia is still there, but thankfully her heart rate was normal which is great. I'm still so nervous, but just trying to focus on the fact that baby looks healthy today.
grape / 78 posts
@kristinleigh: How do you stay upright with a blood glucose of 48? Ha. Is that normal for you?
@lauren0817: I love how positive you're trying to be about all of this. I mean, I know you're freaking out, too. But what else can you do but keep moving forward one day at a time? Sending you all the warm fuzzies.
@JoyfulKiwi: The only thing my husband and I can't possibly agree on is baby names. We didn't have one when I delivered my son last time and we just can't seem to land on one now. It's hard!
@DesertDreams88: My husband always lets me know how many times I got up the night before, my average is now 3-4. No wonder I'm so exhuasted! And it doesn't matter if I stop drinking water before bed, I just keep making more.
cherry / 178 posts
@cvwood: I have no idea!! I felt a little off but not until right before they drew my blood. Then I ate a Lara bar right away. I usually run low especially this pregnancy. Almost fainted a few times
kiwi / 589 posts
@cvwood: I got up 4 times last night too. I think I average 3-4 times a night. Most times I can go back to sleep easily, but sometimes I'm up and it takes forever to go back to sleep! I don't remember getting up this much until the very end with my first. It's brutal!
kiwi / 589 posts
@lauren0817: I'm thinking of you and hope everything continues to go well. How are you handling all those appointments? I'm already stressed about the ones every two weeks...guess I shouldn't complain about that!
pomegranate / 3604 posts
Looks like baby will be here sometime in November. Planned csection rather than induction (much less stressful on everyone involved and I'm super likely to end up with an emergency section anyways so let's just skip the hoopla. )
Weekly ultrasounds & doc appointments now. Growth every two weeks (so next week) & blood flow studies on the opposite. Doc said the next week or two will be the deciding factor for the outcome, either positively or negatively.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@sera_87: oh wow! Exciting! How has the weight gain been going?
pomegranate / 3604 posts
@travellingbee: I won't know until next week because they can only measure any significant difference every 2 weeks. Doc and I are crossing our fingers for anything in the 60-100 gram range.
Cool/weird fact: he's started to open the veins in his brain so he can maximize what blood he does get to protect his brain. Woah dude.
I also figured out what a Fellow is in the medical hierarchy today. I've always wondered!
apricot / 369 posts
@cvwood: thank you so much!! I am sending all of these positive thoughts to baby and hoping she continues to do well. The being positive part is hard, but I'm really really trying
@brady80: thank you so much! Thankfully I'm not working right now so that helps with all of the appts. I was at a temporary position which finished a few months ago and I decided to wait to find my next job since I was commuting 2 hrs + each way (and probably would be for the next job as well) and driving myself nuts! As long as things continue to go well it looks like I'll have weekly appts with the specialist and then every 2 week appts with my OB. Thank you for thinking of us

@sera_87: thinking of you and baby! Keep us updated on how things are going
Are the drs seeing a blood flow issue or is baby just sending extra blood to his brain? It really is amazing how strong these little ones are!
pomegranate / 3604 posts
@lauren0817: slightly both? He's maximizing what little blood flow he does get to go to his brain so it keeps him alive/developing properly. (obviously he has enough to keep him alive and grow a little bit but not enough to gain weight correctly.)
I'm probably explaining this all wrong lol.
apricot / 369 posts
@sera_87: well that's amazing regardless of how/why it's happening! I was just curious since issues with blood flow are one thing they are concerned about with baby's heart issues. Hoping for more good news next week

Ugh, got in a fender-bender today and ended up spending 6 hours in the hospital. So, so scary. And to top it off, I was technically the one at fault, so guilt was eating me up- long line of cars, light turned green, we all started accelerating, but then the car in front of me stopped abruptly and I didn't stop in time. The cars have just paint damage and there is a tiny crack in my fender, and no air bags deployed, so that was slightly reassuring .... but still so scary, to get a jolt like that. My poor husband and school secretary... they got such a teary phone call. I tried to speak clearly but you know.
They did about 4 hours of heartbeat monitoring and baby kept moving a ton which was reassuring but made it difficult to get a consistent read. The ultrasound showed some minor arrythmia at times, and thanks to HB and you @lauren0817 I knew it wasn't terribly uncommon and the sonographer & nurses weren't worried. No spotting or leaking. I was so upset for the first 2-3 hours and then so sleepy due to the adrenaline crash. I'm just supposed to take it easy this weekend and follow up with my doctor next week about the a-fib.

@DesertDreams88: I'm so sorry - what a stressful day We had a car accident early last month and it sounds like a similar situation - it was definitely a low speed accident, but still so so scary. I'm so happy to hear that you and baby are okay!
Our accident was before 24 weeks so they didn't even monitor baby's heart rate while we were there - I think they said that they couldn't get a good read that early? They just listened by Doppler a few times and also did a quick ultrasound. They did monitor me for contractions though and of course I had a few while I was there even though I had NO idea and that just freaked me out more.
Yes mild arrhythmias are very, very common! Believe me I know how scary it is to hear about it about though. I would suspect that your doctor will probably send you for an echocardiogram just to have a better look, but hopefully it will just go away on its own. Let me know if you have any questions or want to chat - unfortunately I'm becoming an expert in all of this fetal heart stuff
Oh and you will probably be a bit sore for a few days from the accident - I felt pretty sore for a couple days probably from a combination of the accident and lying in that uncomfortable hospital bed and being afraid to move because of the monitor and the IV. Have a nice quiet weekend and take it easy
