Who have you told? Oh man, who haven't I told. It's been a long road that many close friends and family have been a part of. So some ladies at work, my parents, and close friends.

@travellingbee: Congrats on your beta today! I've been following your post, excited for your good news
So, I'm nervously jumping in here...I had an early miscarriage last month and had to leave the November boards. I barely tracked anything this month, and randomly tested last week and lo and behold came up with a BFP! Fingers crossed that this little one sticks...

EDD: Jan. 4th

Who have you told? Just my DH so far...
Hope to get to stay in this board and meet some more January moms!

@Alba4: welcome!! I guess we've all got #2 cooking here so far
The hunger is pretty crazy, isn't it? Now I'm remembering why I put on 50 pounds last time Hoping to avoid that this time around!

@karen: Oh my gosh I can't stop eating in the evening and at night. And yet nothing is very appealing. I woke up to pee at 3:30am and was STARVING. Couldn't go to sleep without eating. So I got up and ate a cheese stick and water. I am also thirsty all the time so no wonder I pee 24/7.
Today I sneezed and it felt like I pulled a muscle in my groin! Must have been round ligament pain but it seems so early!
I go back for my 2nd betas tomorrow. Hopefully this is my sticky one! After 2 losses and a failed IUI, I'm ready to be done trying and get on with having a baby!

@travellingbee: I really hope this is it for you! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. We haven't had to do any interventions, but I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks before I had my son, and just had another miscarriage last month...so I know it's no fun. Fingers crossed for great numbers!!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@karen: I'm so sorry for your losses. If I had to have them, I'm grateful they were early. 11 weeks must be so hard. I'm terrified of that.

@travellingbee: It was so hard at the time, but looking back if things hadn't worked out the way they did, we wouldn't have our son...and he's awesome! It's amazing what you can get through when you need to.

Hi ladies, I'm also nervous because I'm in general a very anxious person and feel like it's so early but I have to tell someone!! I just tested tonight, and got a positive.
Location: Japan (but originally from CA)
EDD: Jan. 3, 2016
How far along: 4 weeks
First child? No, already have a 28 months old now.
First doctor appointment: Haven't made one yet, thinking to make one for around 8 weeks.
Any symptoms so far? Nothing! My jeans felt a little tight lately but I think I've just been eating too much. I'm also trying to avoid gaining 50-60 pounds this time around.
Who have you told? Only my DH! I'm tempted to spill the beans to my best friends and family but ugh.... I better not. It's so hard to keep my mouth shut though.
I guess we are all in the early days, but I'm looking forward to hopefully going through the next 9 months with you all!

Cautiously joining the due date board...
Location: Texas
EDD: 1/9/16 (So funny story - I'm already convinced that this baby has to be a boy because my brother's boy was born on 1/6 and my sister's twin boys were born on 1/7.)
How far along: 4 weeks
First child?: No, I have a 18 month-old daughter
First doctor appointment: haven't made one yet, but I'm hoping they can get me in next Friday.
Any symptoms so far? Fatigue, peeing a lot, and I am a little hungrier than normal in the afternoons
Who have you told? Just DH and HB. We want to hold off to tell people until the 2nd tri (July 4th can't get her fast enough!) but we will probably end up telling our families before that.

@mrs.shinerbock: @gracecat: so glad you're here!
Let's hope I can stay! I am at the dr. Getting blood drawn for my 2nd beta. Rise, baby, rise!
Also, lots of nausea this morning. Maybe it's nerves.

@travellingbee: Thanks and good luck today! I think the nausea is a good sign!

2nd beta went up by 150%!!!! My HCG was 354! Oh I am sooooooo relieved. First ultrasound is May 12th. Our wedding anniversary!

Obviously just for fun since I know my HCG level, but isn't it pretty?! 18dpo

@gracecat: Why are you in Japan? That's so cool! What part are you in? What's the maternity care like there? Similar to here?
pomegranate / 3779 posts
@gracecat: @travellingbee: yeah it is reassuring, isn't it? I still have 2 tests but I'm sure I will get nervous and use them before my dr apt next Friday.
clementine / 878 posts
I have one more test too! I'll probably use it in a couple weeks, which is halfway to my first doctor's appointment.
I'm in Tokyo but I can't say what it's like here exactly because I haven't started going to the doctor here yet. (DD was born in Korea). I've definitely heard things about here, like they don't let pregnant women gain much weight (7-8 kg, or about 15 pounds). I've even heard of a mom being told not to gain more than 4 kg (9 pounds)!!! That's the exception though. They are super strict about that supposedly, so that means I'm in deep s*#t.
Postpartum depression is not as well known as in the US. Many think that a new mom should only be overjoyed post-birth.
Also most births are done naturally, you usually can't get an epidural outside of normal office hours (Mon - Fri 9 am to 5 pm) unless you get a special doctor. The medical community here seems to think the pain is a way for mom to bond with the baby. But I'll probably have to end up getting a repeat c-Section so I'm not too concerned about it. VBACs here are unusual and difficult to get (as in I've only heard of 1 or 2 big hospitals here that are even willing to consider it).
They also don't do the NT test, it's not approved in Japan for some reason. You can get it but it's not common at all. Instead they do other types of blood tests and screenings.
But otherwise I think the level of care here is quite good. The local government really offers a lot of resources for pre-natal and post-natal health in terms of classes, education and support. You get a free dental check up once while pregnant and once within a year post birth, for example. We had free vaccinations, dental check ups and such for DD after we moved here. Lots of free indoor staffed play areas all around and it's in general very child friendly. Lots of nice nursing rooms and changing facilities in every shopping center usually.
So definitely lots of pros and cons, but because there's a good size foreign community here you can usually find what you need!
Sorry my response is so long! I'll definitely be mentioning anything that's totally weird during the next months (hopefully)!

@gracecat: yikes on the weight gain restrictions. So funny story: I was in Japan (Tokyo) on a teacher grant some years ago and had a really bad yeast infection from some antibiotics I had been on. It couldn't wait until I got back so I went to a doctor (regular doctor not an OBGYN) there. First the nurse told me I might not fit through the doorway because it's short so I should duck (for context, I'm not quite 5'4" and she was at least that tall) and then the doctor shook his head and said it was very bad. He informed me that he believed I had chlamydia but he would send a sample in. I very much felt like they stereotyped me as a tall, dirty american. Don't get me wrong. I loved nearly everything about my stay in Japan but I was a little like " hold up with the judgement please" with the doctored/nurses.

@gracecat: wow, that's crazy about the max 15 lbs. I don't know anyone here that didn't gain at least 20 and I know a lot that gained +40.
clementine / 878 posts
@travellingbee: Yes there are definitely still some pretty bad stereotypes/racism here, but it's even worse in Korea! But most people are ok. I don't get it much though because I'm East Asian and most assume I can speak Japanese or am Japanese, but I've heard some horror stories. Sorry that happened to you!!
clementine / 878 posts
@mrs.shinerbock: Haha what's going on with all the funny face emoticons? I gained at least 55 pounds. Also I got so bloated at the end that my Uggs were tight and when I took them off they left indentation marks where they ended on my calves. So so bad...

@Ash: thanks, I didn't think it was nice to add to her post about making appt with the RE that oh, BTW I'm KO, so I was going to wait a few days to tell that group. Didn't think anyone was stalking the Jan 16 moms yet.

@gracecat: ash is in my month group from my LO1 and she just found out that I got a BFP
