@ShootingStar: My mom has asked me the same question a million times, haha! She actually hates the nickname Xander and rarely calls him that.
We always liked the name Alexander and when we decided on the nickname Xander, we knew we wanted to keep his fullname as Alexander because he wanted him to have something classic to use for professional reasons in the future. Plus we wanted to give him the option of going by something more "normal" if he decides he hates Xander someday.

@Adira: totally possible! I got ours last year at target and took them to a place locally to be personalized, so finding the exact one would be tough for me. PBK is probably more consistent over the years.

We have these stockings from Lillian Vernon. http://www.lillianvernon.com/product/sleighreindeerheirloomneedlepointstocking.do?sortby=bestSellers My mom got me one from there about 10-15 years ago. I got one for LO and they match perfectly. I'd get one from someplace like that, go with Xander, and then change it down the road if you need to.

if you're really worried, buy an extra blank one and put it somewhere safe! if he ever changes his mind you can get it embroidered and it'll still match! my MIL bought us all personalized stockings last year and bought two extras because DH's siblings are unmarried... eventually their spouses will get the same stockings too!

So my son's stocking has his full name, I called him that almost exclusively up until this year, where I have begun to call him the shortened version. I guess you never know, but you know what, stockings are cheap enough now that you might want to get a new set eventually anyway.
I'd go with his full name.

@cmomma17 thanks for the Lands End idea! I just ordered 2 for us and will order 1 for the babe when we name them next year.
PSA: the designs I ordered were back ordered and by the time personalization is done and the items are shipped it will be nearly Thanksgiving by the time they arrive.
