@Pumuckl: I can't think of anything! The thing is, he is a suuuuuper picky eater to begin with. He eats like a bird and has a variation of the same thing every day. Bacon, yogurt and a banana for breakfast, chicken and fruit for lunch, and then chicken, fruit and a potato item for dinner. There is little variation elsewhere. Snacks are usually cheddar bunnies and nuts. Sometimes he'll eat a grilled cheese or veggie soup, but that's about as crazy as he gets.

@Mrs Green Grass: I saw that in googling around a bit...a type of hyperglycemia? Still doesn't seem to fix the diarrhea. My husband wants to try and give him a snack right before bed, just in case, though. And luckily, he's been drinking a ton of water, and hasn't yet seemed dehydrated, so at least that isn't an issue right now. He's lost a couple of lbs, though.

@Pumuckl: Interesting point! He actually had terrible reflux until he was just over a year, and it seems he replaced that with pickiness. Maybe he's just been having some belly troubles this whole time. I'm actually going to watch his dairy intake for now. He used to have issues with yogurt when his reflux was bad, so I've been wondering if that's part of the issue.

@erwoo: I'm actually wondering if I should push for an allergy test now, or wait to see if we can pin down what's troubling him? I thought about it last night and was thinking they might try to do that as the next step, but they're just having me write down what he's eating for now.

And thank you all for helping me sort out some feelings. It's felt so overwhelming. I kind of wonder if he didn't have an actual stomach bug at first, but is now having food issues because of it? I guess only time will tell.

@Applesandbananas: He only gets milk, water and an occasional unsweet iced tea, so juice isn't a concern. Maybe milk?

Just an update: We have an appt Monday with a pediatric GI specialist. There's been no change in the last 4 days of dairy free, so we're taking the next step. I'll let you know if we figure anything out. Thanks for everyone's input!

@mrbee: How long did it take for him to stop vomiting? It's actually gotten a tad worse since going off dairy. Ugh.

@LuLu Mom: Celiac crossed my mind, but man, I sure hope that isn't it. That would be awful.

@Pumuckl: Thanks for thinking about us. We had a late appt and it was 1.5 hrs away, so it was a long day, but we have a plan. She thinks it's most likely a parasite but we'll be testing for celiac just for peace of mind. And she also said that stool samples have a high rate of human error, so they're notoriously wrong. Going to test for a few more specific parasites, but if nothing comes up with either the blood or stool, we'll likely just treat him for parasites anyways. But he's had a couple good days again, so were just praying it's made its way out of his system and he's done. If he gets through tonight, then that's the longest he's gone without problems. Fingers crossed.

Just updating anyone who might have been thinking about us...

We had our follow-up with the GI specialist yesterday, and the blood samples revealed that he doesn't have celiac, but his white blood count was high, as were his eosinophils, indicating he definitely had an infection of some sort. But his stool sample was negative again. Both the GI specialist and his pediatrician mentioned that it could technically take dozens of stool samples to find a parasite, though, so I didn't have my hopes up that we'd pinpoint the little sucker. In any case, we're starting 5 days of antibiotics (Alinia) and hopefully this will be done for good. We've had a good week, so things have been looking up, though we're still battling nausea some. Zofran has been helpful in that department, though. Thanks for all the well wishes and support!
