Will you have the MateniT21 test done? I plan to with my next since insurance covers it and it can detect all abnormalities with a perfectly safe blood test! It's also nice I find out the sex at 12 weeks instead of 20 and know definitively that its accurate unlike an ultrasound.

Do they only offer this to women over 35? I'm 32, will be turning 33 in the summer and I'm wondering if my insurance would cover it.

Yes! I'm too impatient to wait 20 weeks to find the sex.
@pinkcupcake: Anyone can take the blood test but you may have to pay out of pocket. Insurance covers it if you're over 35 because we're conserved "advanced maternal age" and higher risk pregnant.

@pinkcupcake: yes as she said. It's basically the new less invasive alternative for a CVS. I was 34 when I was first pregnant with my son (turned 35 three mos before his birth). And I don't think it came out until just after but my next pregnancy (god willing!) I will be covered and I am happy because last time I was too scared of the cvs risk of miscarriage so we did an NT scan and some genetic bloodwork but its not as extensive. You can pay out of pocket for it but I think it costs a few hundred dollars.

I'm 36, will be 37 when LO comes. We opted for the Harmony test (I think different doctor's offices sometimes prefer different tests for whatever reason).
The peace of mind was really great, and finding out the sex was a nice bonus, I'll admit! My practice also recommended having a NT scan because the cell-free fetal DNA tests don't pick up on physical markers like anencephaly or spina bifida, they primarily look for other conditions.
It's been a good thing for us, and if we're lucky enough to have a second, we'll definitely do it again.

I'll be 36 by the time we TTC, and I am open to these types of tests. I guess it will ultimately depend on what my doctor recommends. I had my preconception appointment a few weeks ago, but we didn't talk about testing. I for sure don't want to do any invasive tests.

@MrsMccarthy: Actually you probably would've been covered with your first. It's 35 at birth, not 35 at conception. I was also 34 when we conceived, but 35 when she was born, and I was considered AMA.

@pinkcupcake: It depends on your insurance. I was 32 when I got pregnant and was told by my OB that my insurance would cover either Maternit21/Harmony/etc or sequential screen, but not both.

I did none of that testing and I delivered at 35.

I'm pregnant with my second at 35 and did no testing.

I'm 38 (will be 39 when baby is born) and I did get a cell-free DNA test at 12 weeks, as well as an additional sequential screen in my second trimester.
Everything came back negative, but we didn't want to find out the sex.

My friend did that test. I want to take the test if it's offered to me!

I had the Materniti21 test with my last pregnancy because I was considered Advanced Maternal Age. It was reassuring to get the results in a non-invasive manner. We also found out the sex at 10 weeks.

I will be 35 by the time I deliver in Dec. My doc offers both Harmony & MaterniT21 & I plan on doing whichever is covered by my insurance. Knowing the gender early will be good too.

Yes, I did it and appreciated the reassurance it provided without the invasive nature of CVS.
