I am 37 weeks today and anxious to get this show on the road - of course that means I will go over, right?!!
What was your first sign, and when did it happen?

@wrkbrk: my first sign came at 40w1d. I felt like I had to clear my bowels all day and just didn't feel "right". I spent the day on the couch and on the toilet. (you're welcome)

The first contraction.
Other than that, I swore my nose was flatter (something my chiro said would happen) but my husband thought I was grasping at straws. Maybe I was. I was 40w2d.

I was crampy and losing my mucus plug starting at 39+1. Woke up with strong contractions at 39+4 and he was born that day.

I was 40+3 and I had a massive contraction that almost made me puke.

At almost midnight on 39+6, I laid down in bed and my water broke. Not a big gush, but enough for me to know what it was. Contractions started within ten minutes, and never stopped/slowed down.

Generally feeling "off" and super crappy. I blamed it on travel and heat (we were in Vegas, and it was 105+). My "Braxton Hicks" started getting noticeably painful the night before, but I didn't think they were real. It wasn't until I started bleeding that I was sure, and by that point the contractions were pretty painful. She was born at 33+1.

I around 9pm on my due date my tummy started to feel upset. I pooped and then had my bloody show. Right after that contractions started coming every 4 minutes and never slowed down.

At 40w2d I had to hustle to the bathroom for #2. Then it happened again about 20min later...then 20minutes after that...
I sat there and thought to myself, "Why am I having these cramps every 20minutes if I don't have to actually use the toilet...ohhhhhh"
My BH had been mostly in the evening and were much higher up on my abdomen. So the real contractions were much different.

I had diarrhea for a couple of days... Lovely! I wasn't sure until that first real contraction which seemed to wrap around from back to front, unlike the BH contractions I'd been having.

I lost part of my mucus plug at 39 weeks and contractions shortly followed. DS was born at 39+2, after a very long labor.

My water sprung a leak and contractions started pretty quickly. I also spent two hours in the bathroom clearing my bowels. The big gush of my waters didn't happen until I was getting my epidural hours later though.

The morning before I went into labor I was having very light period type cramps that were timeable but not very painful. I also had lost a good chunk of my mucus plug that morning. We went about our day and I went into actual labor after sex at midnight that night!

my water broke for dd (big gush). i had contractions for ds. luckily because ds was my second, i knew what contractions felt like. otherwise i would've passed them off as cramps!

@wrkbrk: Yep! She was 5lb 7oz at birth (they really questioned me on whether I was sure of my dates, but I was), and her apgar scores were 8 and 8. She spent 15 days in the nicu, but she's super healthy, growing great, and hitting milestones. Happiest dang baby I've ever seen too.

@regberadaisy: How can you tell the difference between contractions and cramping? I have cramping most days now but its not timeable. It's just a low level crampiness like the first day of your period ...

@wrkbrk: it started off rhythmic almost. Rest, liquids/juice didn't get rid of it. Then the next day it intensified into "holy shit, F you Aunt Flo" cramps. 
I typically cramp pretty bad during my period and these were definitely worse.

39+6, woke up about 6am thinking oh that kind of hurts worse! (I had been having a lot of contractions for weeks but these were different!) I also felt kind of wet, I thought it was probably my normal heavy end of pregnancy discharge. So I got up, ate cereal, took a quick shower and by the time I got out of the shower, I was having hard painful contractions I could not talk or move through and my water had clearly broken (it dribbled out, never a gush). Went to the hospital, baby born at 1:08pm that day! (First and only baby so far)

For 1, I had to use the washroom, and lost my mucus plug on the toilet. Cramping and contractions started right after.
For 2, my water broke. Contractions didn't start until about 12 hours later though.

#1: my water broke at 5am at 39w2d
#2: I had a contraction that was 1 minute long on the night of 39w6d, and theu were 3-4 min apart from then
