Because you have kids I say house all the way - a yard!!!

I loved and still miss our condo that we lived in when DS was born but I cant imagine being there with 2 kids

Honestly it would depend on if the apartment meant someone was living above me. If so - I would pick house. If not then I would like the newness of the apartment for sure!

Do you eventually want to buy a house, or are you planning to rent for a while?

If I wanted to buy at some point in the future, I'd go with the house, just to build equity. If I was happy renting, I'd go with the apartment - more bedrooms for more babies!

I don't think I would ever buy a 2 bedroom house- for resale purposes especially. Is the apartment a walk up or elevator, or is it more like a condo?

Apartment, because I like the conveniences.

If it's for a few years, then i would choose the apartment. If you don't have kids yet, but just thinking you will in the next couple of years then i think a 2000 sq ft is just too much house (for me personally). Also, 2000 sq ft and only 2 bedrooms? The 2 bedrooms alone would be a deal breaker. I have friends with 2 kids who lived in a very spacious 2 bdrm condo (1100 sq ft) for 7 years and it was definitely enough space for them.

It also depends on what kind of homeowner you are. Do you like surprises/upkeep? Are you handy? Would you prefer that someone else takes care of everything?

Apartment if they're both rentals. Dealing with a lazy landlord and a 100 year old house would drive me batty. And what 2,000sf house only has two bedrooms?!

I have no idea. I don't think I would choose either. After living in a house I don't think I could go back to an apartment. But I also wouldn't want my LOs sharing a room. I guess if I had to choose I'd choose apartment. But I wouldn't be happy about it!

If both are rentals and you have to pay for utilities in the old, big house AND you live in a colder climate -- easy. Luxury apartment ALL THE WAY!

This is coming from someone that loves having a yard. But I'm guessing the heating alone would really drive costs up. I honestly think you'll thank yourself next winter when you're cozy in your snazzy kitchen

How close is the nearest park? You have a dog, right? I'd it is in a walkable part of town with some green space, I say apartment!

oh, if they're both rentals, the apartment and all it's conveniences aside from shared walls. But I'd give that up for convenience if I had no chance to build equity.

We have dogs so I would want the yard (we're in an apt now and I want a yard so badly!!). But otherwise, I'm not sure! The school and neighborhood are big bonuses for the apt

Is the train loud/high-speed/very frequent? I might have an issue with that, but otherwise, I'd pick the apartment, hands-down.

hm, i love houses, but dealing with our old inefficient bungalow kinda sucks. but having a yard would outweigh it for me, so i still choose house. but that's a close call!

I would normally choose houses, but that apartment sounds better even though it is smaller!

As a rental, I would do the apartment. That place sounds great! If I was buying, I would go for a house.

I'm an apartment dweller, I find houses have very high maintenance especially a 100 year hold house. You will need to make sure everything insulated, pipes are in working order (the pipe in our house ended up having a hole and was severely clogged that cost us a pretty penny). foundation is in working order, electrical is up to code and roof is okay (my dad had to replace his roof and it was a lot)

So for me hands down it would be the apt, plus you have an additional room
