@littlejoy: our 2 month old had a slight fever. We took him to urgent care and they basically turned us away and told us to go to the emergency room. I think since they're so little if something is wrong it can go badly so quickly so they want to take precautions.

With that said my mil works at our dr office and went in the back to talk to a dr. He gave us the baby dosing guidelines and said if he had a fever the next day to schedule an appointment, so we never actually went to the emergency room.

Is there a reason you're taking his temp? Like is he acting sick etc? Temps are always the highest at the end of the day so I'm not suprised it's rising, but is be more concerned with the reasons why your taking it - is how's he's acting

Any reason to be taking his temp? Acting sick? Our body temp can fluctuate a lot through the day. Our office says 100.4 and above is a true fever. If he hits that just head straight to the ER. They're usually just fine but it's a good precautionary measure when they're this young.

My pediatrician says they need to be seen if their fever reaches 100.4.

@littlejoy: I went through this with my LO when he was a newborn and got up to 99.9. My pediatrician told me to quit taking his temperature. He told me if it gets above 100.4 he would HAVE to admit us to the hospital. But if baby was eating well and acting normal, not ultra fussy or lethargic, etc that I should leave him the heck alone.

When they are that young, docs don't mess around with fever. When DS1 was 8 weeks old, he got RSV. On about day 3, he had a fever (not high) and he was checked into the hospital for observation. Everything turned out ok, but my doctor erred on the side of caution since he was so little.

ETA: He definitely had symptoms before the fever. If your LO seems ok, I'm sure it's fine.

Our 2.5 week old had a fever a couple weeks ago and we went straight to the er. She ended up coming back positive for group b strep and the only reason we fared well was because I caught it almost immediately. I would go in to be sure, my ped said if we had waited it would have been a lot worse. She also was acting differently than she had been but I would rather err on the side of caution.

We went to the pediatric er with ds2 when he was 11 days old. His fever just got 100.3 one reading I took. By the time we got to the ER it was 100. We started for a few hours for monitoring. Ds1 also had a 12 hour sight fever that same day. I was glad we went and also glad we avoided all the testing.
