I am going to start working on LO's 1st birthday invitations and I was wondering if I was presumptious (or rude) if I wrote on the invitation, at the bottom, in small print "in lieu of presents, please donate to March of Dimes." LO was premature and I appreciate everything March of Dimes did for my LO and I feel like that's a better gift than toys (which he already has a million of). Thoughts?

I see nothing wrong with this. I would much rather do this then buy another toy that goes into a pile.

I love the idea but would soften the wording some.
Maybe: "No presents please, but would love to see donations to the march of dimes".
"in lieu of presents, donations to March of Dimes would be great"

I think it's fine-- most 1st birthdays are gift giving events, so it's not really presumptuous to think people would be getting you a gift. If I saw that, and knowing that you were personally helped by March of Dimes, I would think it was really, really nice.
