My dad called me to tell me about this yesterday and i freaked me out. A daycare went on an outing to the beach and left behind a 2 year old. She played with another family's kids for about 3hours and finally that family realized she wasnt with any adults so they called police! Seriously how could this happen. They dont count the number of kids they go out with it?

I don't think a field trip to the beach with daycare is safe for 2 year olds anyway but I guess that is not the point ....

@Andrea: Yea, my daughter would not be going anywhere near water at the age of 2.
Our daycare does fire drills and they said one time they were counting as the kids came out the door and they were missing one who was sleeping in a corner. Counting kids and rosters is VERY important. Don't forget to sign your kid in when they get to daycare.

Yikes. There's so much that can get messed up with counts (like double counting or mis-counting) that it gives me the willies. Ugh.

A gal I worked with had this hapen to her. Her son is now like 19, and when he was 2, he got out of the providers house and into the woods. She said from the house to the woods was a bit of distance so he had been out for awhile before she even noticed. They had to have a search party and everything for him and found him wandering lost in the woods. I would FREAK OUT!!!

@Andrea: This is exactly. No way I would trust anyone other than myself or my husband to supervise my two year old at the beach!

Eh, to each their own. DD went to the beach for the first time with daycare at about... 11 months, I think. DS hasn't gone yet this summer (he's only 4.5 months), but we'll let him go next summer, when he's over 12 months.
Poor kid, though! And poor family that had to deal with this!

This is enough to make me want to build a little bubble and have my son grow in that until he's 35 years old.
In Michigan we have more lakes then beaches...so more than likely my kid will be a swimming pool type of kid. Lakes scare the ish out of me and beaches are way too far away 9unless we vacation somewhere). -
@MamaMoose: @LivsMama: @TurtleDoves: My daycare doesn't take DD on field trips at 2 and that is fine by me. If there really was a beach trip, I would only let her go if I could take the day off from work and chaperoned.

Our daycare only does a field trip to the pumpkin patch at that age.
One time our daycare forgot to pick my daughter up from school. I got a call from school and then from daycare saying they realised they missed her stop and got her. She was only waiting for 10 minutes or so and was in 2nd grade. Still I can't tell you how furious I was. When you trust someone to take care of your child and they do something that could hurt them no matter how small, it can really bring out the mama bear in you.
