So 2 is the "fear" age where kids start developing irrational fears. Lala is terrified of this one bunny, while her best friend right now is terrified of fireworks. I think once they get to that stage, they get very focused on their primary caregiver as a source of reassurance.

For example, this morning we officially started with our new nanny. For whatever reason, Lala has decided that she wants nothing to do with her (she used to love her), and I had to hold her all morning until we left for school. Then she cried when I left her at school too.

Likely it's just a phase, but of course for me, I'm freaking out as to whether this nanny is right for us!

@Honeybee: Yeah, there was nothing we could do to make the bunny less scary. I think it's an important stage in their understanding that the world is not a predictable place and is probably very adaptive for kids who are now able to inflict much more damage on themselves.

My son, who is also 2, just started getting scared of random things too. I had a Destination Maternity shopping bag on my desk and he freaked out when he saw it. He thinks the profile of the pregnant woman on the bag is scary. (????) Go figure.

@honeybee: LOL! He pointed to it and started saying "Umma! Umma!" (which is "mom" in korean). I guess he thought the profile pic was ME! Anyways, I forgot to mention that a few months ago, my son went through a weird separation anxiety phase too. He would start bawling whenever my husband or I even just left the room. Which was weird behavior cause he's typically not a big crier. I couldn't understand why his behavior changed so suddenly. That lasted probably around 3-4 weeks. And then he went back to normal, with just very slight separation anxiety (like when we leave the house). It was definitely just a phase!
