This looks like such fun, I just signed up.
@scg00387: Thank you for setting this up!

I'm in. Is the street address information only provided to the person we are matched with?
bananas / 9628 posts
@MrsH: I filled the address out on mine- poke around my profile & see if you see it anywhere, if not I think you're good.

What are wish lists for? They are merely suggestions to point people into the right direction right? I just started mine and I am just adding things to get the ball rolling. Do you have to be married to the brand and exact item as it is on your list? Sorry--I've never used elfster before! I just kind of made one so if someone draws me that really doesn't know me at all, they'd have like a general indication I guess.

@TurtleDoves: I'm thinking that is what it's for. Once everyone is signed up and names are drawn (it does it automatically) you can ask questions of your draw secretly - so i'm thinking we can all ask one another same questions as well to help with that.
update - it does appear that *I* as the creator can see all of your addresses, etc. so... i didn't realize that and obviously I do not plan on mailing you all cooties or fruitcakes but I felt like I ought to at least make that known!

@scg00387: what about coal? Do you promise not to send a lump of coal?

Late to the game, but I signed up!
Since I live overseas, whoever gets me can just send something super small b/c it's expensive to mail here
So if I understand correctly, the site will give us our person on October 17th? And the only "rule" is no edibles?
Fun

@TheSwissWifeStyle: shipping is the reason why I'm reluctant to sign-up. I hate how USPS hides the fact that they offer regular First Class Mail for international packages. I've had numerous friends, family and poor Etsy sellers convinced they had to ship Priority. Argh.
I kind of wish there was a overseas version with food as an option. I'm especially eyeing the Swiss bees ;P

@TheSwissWifeStyle: or just something light!
@SugarplumsMom: I will give everyone who signs up a run down of how to ship cheapest - and if anyone doesn't want to ship internationally they can let me know and there's a way to make sure they don't get an international bee. I was thinking $20 max + shipping - so someone would just take into consideration whatever they were buying/making and how much it would be to ship ya know? So join in!
bananas / 9227 posts
@scg00387: I think the shipping should be accounted for and added to the limit. It's more fair that way. How about just upping the price for international bees to $25 or $30? Here's how much it'll cost to ship to most of Europe. **This is for a package, uninsured, no confirmation).
First-Class Package International Service
Post Office price & Online price
8 oz $12.75 $11.48
1 lb - $16.75 $15.08
2 lbs- $24.15 $21.74
AmazonUK is always an option since shipping is free and you don't have to be in the UK to buy from there. Etsy's another option (to have the seller ship directly). I know it's less personal that way, but it's an option.

@SugarplumsMom: I agree, amazon/etsy are good options. I The max spending is just a guideline - I don't plan on policing receipts or anything So I'd assume bees would figure it out/take it into account but I'm happy to update the original post with a note about a higher international max if you want. Just tell me what amount!
bananas / 9227 posts
@TheSwissWifeStyle: what do you think? How much should the limit be for international bees?
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
What a fun idea! I've done elfster with other friends last year and liked it I'll join in.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@SugarplumsMom: that's what I had to do last year when I was paired with a Canada bee - I had the etsy seller include a note and shipped directly there. I was sad I couldn't include a more personal note or additional gift but it worked out to be cheaper that way.
bananas / 9227 posts
@Mrs. Pen: I feel so much better about it now. I've also found some really light gifts to include into my list I'm pretty excited!
@scg00387: @TheSwissWifeStyle: I actually think this will work without upping the limit. What do you think?

Thanks for organizing. I signed up using my regular Elster account

@SugarplumsMom: I honestly think it's a non-issue. So if you're happy, I'm happy

@bunnylove08: so others have said they use elfster for other stuff - what do you normally use it for? just curious! I'd never heard of it before except for in context of secret santa stuff.
grapefruit / 4442 posts
@scg00387: I use it mainly for secret Santa with my college friends and family. Been using it for years.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@Jennimac: just sit tight! names will be exchanged via elfster on 10/17 and then you'll have a month to buy a gift and mail it!
