Am I crazy to think I might have a shorter labor and delivery? I kind of just want to birth at home. Last time I didn't have to drive in the car while contracting and that doesn't sound fun!!

My second labor was less than half the time of my first. My first labor was 15 hours and my second was 6.

I've seen it go both ways! I'm praying for a shorter labor and to avoid induction this time but I'm not placing any bets. Good luck!

My first labor was 3 hours shorter than my second. First was 11 hours and second was 14 hours. That's not including the time before my water broke. Pushed for an hour and a half the first time around and for an entire min the second time around.

First was 11 hours after I got to the hospital with 3 hours of pushing. Second was 5 hours after getting to the hospital with half an hour of pushing!

My friend just had a two hour labor for #2 this week. Her first was 30+. It gives me hope since I had a long labor with #1. Good luck!

My first was 8 hrs with 3 of those pushing. My second was 2 hrs (but that counts beginning contractions 15 minutes apart, real active was only an hour). Pushing lasted less than ten minutes. I hope all future labor's are short!

My first labor was around 36 hours, while my second was less than 4! It can definitely happen.

You just never know. My first was 3 hours my second was about 45 minutes.

My labors were about the same length, however the second time around was much easier. I was much more calm, less yelling and she basically fell out. All was great the second time around

My water broke the second time, so no contractions until I got to the hospital. Labor was super short, but lo had pretty serious issues and went to the nicu quickly so I was very happy to be at the hospital.

No experience myself but my sister's second labour was two-and-a-half hours from first contraction to birth. Super fast.

First one was 9hrs with 20 min of pushing, second was 5ish hours with 4min of pushing.

Sounds like for most of you it was faster. My first was 7 hrs and she fell out, no pushing. But my water did spontaneously combust like 18 hrs before labor started... so it really could be different!

Mine was much faster. Baby was born within 45min of contractions starting!

My first labour was about 12 hours, with 4 hours of pushing...my second labour was probably about 2 hours from the very first signs of discomfort. Baby was born after 2 pushes about 10 mins after arriving at the hospital! I was barely in the labour & delivery area!

@coopsmama: oh, you give me hope! My first was 36 (or maybe 34?) and I am really hoping this kid comes more quickly.

Mine was about the same and one week later. Sooooo... Every baby does what he or she wants Hooe your second wants to come quickly!

@bushelandapeck: oh my! I just had my first and it was 6.5 hours and I thought that was borderline too fast (and they had me labor down for over an hour) how did you handle a 45 minute labor?

@78h2o: there's def hope! My mom had to be induced 3 times (first two failed so she would get sent home & have to come back) with my brother & then labored a loooong time. She didn't even realize she was in labor with me, thought dinner wasn't sitting well, and then I was in her arms within ten minutes of pulling in the hospital parking lot!

All these fast labor stories scare me... I labored for 14 hours and I'm okay cutting that time in half, but I really don't want it to be TOO quick! We need time to get my mom to take over for Xander and get to the hospital and stuff!!

@Cole: it was intense... I had both without pain meds but this one was incredibly painful very quickly and I had a hard time staying calm because of that. With DS, the pain increased gradually so I had time to manage it with breathing, etc. I felt a little out of control this time around and was glad it was over quickly.

@bushelandapeck: I am glad I have awhile before I need to worry about it, I hit transition this time within 45 minutes of my first contraction and it was scary because I expected a more gradual lead in. I appreciate you sharing your experience, I do so much better when I can mentally prepare for multiple eventualities.
