Sweet baby bananas and the fates that be, please save me from having a sick kid during 12 hours of travel. PLEASE
I don't think there is much to be done but if you do have advice I am all ears!

Oh no!! I only can think of obvious things like saline spray until the cows come home

I was going to say the same to help with the pressure.
My kid tends to be the kid that gets sick from being on the plane.

Oh nooooo. Good luck!! LO got a cold the day before we flew home and ended up with an ear infection as a rest if the congestion/pressure from flying, so keep an eye out for that! Hope it goes ok!!

Oh no
Just an FYI, my little guy developed a cold while we were on vacation and the plane caused an ear infection. Maybe check out where you would take lo if you end up with one while you are away from home

@Mrs. Lion: @ms.janedoe: 2 recommendations for the same problem,...uh-oh. I better research.

@lizzywiz: Also I would look up doctors (like walk in clinics/urgent care probably) in the area you're traveling to. We've had to take lo twice out of town and it was difficult because it's hard to find a pedi (well at least where we were) on short notice for a new patient.

@googly-eyes: good tip - just completed!
She is holding steady at moderate sneezing/ coughing and snottiness.
I read some terrifying stuff about flying with sinus pressure and have decided to STOP reading. Thinking about getting earplanes for her.
Unfortunately, we are flying Southwest cheap seats (to see her medically fragile grandparents) and there is no chance of rescheduling. It is cancel or go. We are gonna go....at least at this point.
@beaker: is it horrible that instead of worry about her chronic respiratory issues and how this little cold might develop, I am more worried about getting through our travel time with marriage and sanity intact?

@lizzywiz: Usually even the cheap seats on Southwest can be cancelled and you just have that amount in your account (per person, names can't be changed).
When we boarded the plane, I had clorox wipes in hand, and I wiped down EVERYTHING before she started touching it all. We also gave her the Zarbees cough medicine throughout our trip. Not only did it help with her cough, but its got some vitamin C in it to try to help boost her immune system. Make sure to also pack your own thermometer that you trust.

Oh, also, the "family boarding" with southwest is between groups A and B. But if you check in right at the 24 hour mark, you should get a good spot for boarding. Our one southwest flight had a full A group (so like 50 people) plus like 3-4 families waiting after that. So the plane was already pretty full by the time we got to board before the "B" group.

@T.H.O.U.: luckily we sprung for the Early Bird check-in. Figured we would need it for the car-seat. That is REALLY good to know about maybe not losing out on the money. Because if she develops anything more than a no fever cold then I wouldn't feel comfortable traveling.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@lizzywiz: I would go ahead and call or email but that is what I was told last time I checked (a month or so ago). Now obviously if you paid like $100 per flight 6 months ago and you try to change it for flights next week, you would have to pay the difference to the price they are at now.

I would definitely do some sinus spray or something to thin her out, but otherwise, all you can do is give her some drugs and grin and bear it!

Ooohhh no, because flying with a child isn't already stressful enough
I second what @T.H.O.U.: said about wiping down EVERYTHING with wipes! I used baby wipes plus hand sanitizer because I didn't have Clorox wipes. Chairs, seatbelts, window, tray, back of the seat in front of you... be a crazy person! The flight attendants have told me before that they can't believe everyone doesn't wipe down their own seats, because passengers are nasty and you don't know what you're sitting in...
And then... good luck! Hopefully she perks up soon!!

@swurlygurl: Yup, I just used a regular wipe case and put clorox wipes in there. Security never questioned it at all. But when you board have them already out of your bag and in your hand because as soon as your toddler sits down they start touching stuff.

Aww that sucks!!
We flew when LO was recovering from roseola last Christmas. I am normally all for avoiding antibiotics but his ped gave him some in case it wasn't roseola and was a sinus infection we started that the day before he left. He really did fine. Didn't get any worse after the flight.
Get LO as much sleep as possible these two days. Rest is really all that works! And push the fluids. We tend to give a little juice when he is sick just to encourage him to drink.
Other than that...vitamin drops, little remedies cough syrup (if older than one), hylands cold tablets, baby friendly vapo rub, steamy showers, vaporizer with eucalyptus drops, and cuddles!

@lizzywiz: us chronic mamas can worry about little stuff too!
How's she doing today?
