I'm normally on top of stuff but have totally been slacking on super important stuff like the college savings and estate planning documents. Trying to remedy that ASAP- set up his 529 during first nap woohoo!
Anyone else slacking like me?? He is 9 month so I have no excuse!

nice!!! there are so many 529 options and it was driving me nuts (i think it also contributed to me dragging my feet) but at least we set one up...

We set one up at year end last year so we could get the tax deduction on our 2012 tax return.

@mrskc: I started here http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/2010/10/07/college-savings-the-basics-of-saving-for-college/ and then had DH look through the two plans our state offered (he does financial stuff as a profession). Then it was easy to set up online!

@scg00387: oh cool thanks. I was just looking at my state one and I'm trying to figure out if I should go with my own state or out of state.

@mrskc: unfortunately, CA doesn't have very great plans and no additional tax benefits. not giving you advice, but i went with out of state!

Eta: We also consulted a financial adviser before making any decisions. There are a few good ones out there. I really liked Alaska too.
