I always liked Shad for a boy (family name is Shadrach), and I still like Elizabeth, Laila, and Mira--but those names are already used in our family or don't fit our two-cultures rule.

Willa - we both love it but not with our last name.
Will - haha same reason as Willa, it is too matchy with our last name.

Sterling for a boy or girl. It's a family name on my side and M is not a fan.
pomegranate / 3401 posts
@Foodnerd81: ahhh I have the exact same feelings about Maggie and also Abby!
Harper (too trendy now plus our last name starts with H and I'm not into the alliteration) and Nina (my name is Gina so....)
Garrett- love this name but there was a sales rep I used to work with who got fired and everyone hated him...so bad association! Oh, and he had the same last name as me!
clementine / 920 posts
@Charm54: Me too! Maeve is my favorite author but DH is not a fan.

Norah, because it rhymes with DHs last name. But I loooove it. I really tried to make a case for it.
Gabriel for a boy. We have a good friend named Gabriel, and hes the kind that would think we named our kid after him
pear / 1696 posts
Mika for a girl
Etienne for a boy- we're not french enough to pull this one off, but I love it
pomegranate / 3521 posts
Felix, Harvey, Graham
@blackbird: oooh why not? Love that name. It's on our short list.
papaya / 10343 posts
Mary. And Mae. Both because they are M names and sound weird with our last name.
Zeke - because ezekiel sounds too religious and I don't like nicknames-for-names.
eggplant / 11287 posts
Harvey (because we are done having kids so no boy for us)
Beatrix (because we already have a daughter whose name has an "x" in it)

Landon- big fat veto from Mr. Lime
I'm still holding on to my fav girl names in hopes if we actually need them he will open up.

I love the name Sunny for a girl. Not a single person I ran it past liked it, especially not DH. I was told that with our "S" last name it sounded like a stripper (Ugh! why do people say things like that!).
I also love Gus but our S surname is problematic there too.
honeydew / 7504 posts
Emma - It's a nickname that many people call me. Plus, way too popular.

Such beautiful names!
From the time I can remember, I wanted two kids, Sophie and Henry.
Sophie is a beloved dog's name in the family, and Henry is a terrible and estranged relative on my husband's side. So, there go my dream names!
pear / 1786 posts
Corinne because although I love it, I think it sounds "old" for a little girl and don't like the NN Cori.
For a boy, Clay, because our DS is Mason.
grapefruit / 4089 posts
Caleb - when you say it with our last name, it sounds like two completely different names (and female, to boot). It's my favourite boy name though!
watermelon / 14467 posts
Girl: Evelyn (because our last name is Ev@ns).
Boy: Gyronopholis (I hate it, DH loves it, and I won because no 5-year-old will be able to spell it plus I don't want to set my kid up for a lifetime of bullying).

Grace after a dear, deceased aunt. DH doesn't like the name - and it's become a little too popular besides. Henry has always been my top boys' name, but DH hates it. I love DH, but our tastes are polar opposites (he loves Hilary and Bridget, both names I nixed.) We're having a girl, and I'm sure the final name will be a cliffhanger up to the last moment because we simply cannot agree!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
Benjamin - sounds too similar to my brother's name; and he's not exactly a great role model.
pea / 15 posts
Also love Nora (like others here), especially as a nickname for Eleanor, but know two women who chose that name for their little ones. So that's out too.
pear / 1570 posts
Esme & Vivienne - love them both but DH does not
Augustus - My heart aches for this one, it feels like such a big name and I just couldn't pull the trigger.

So many!
Ava, Audrey, Emma, Sophia, Isabel, Noah, Jacob: too popular
Quinn, Penelope, Maeve, Cecilia: Vetoed by DH

I really like Harrison for a boy and Violet for a girl, but DH doesn't like them.
kiwi / 556 posts
Everett, Lachlan, Oliver and Madeleine - DH vetoed.
Clara - not right with last name
persimmon / 1071 posts
@stiletto_mom:
Girl; Freya- I love it! But DH hates it!
Boy; Theodore- same reason, haha. DH really dislikes Teddy... even though I want the nn Theo, he can't see past it, so it's out.
persimmon / 1071 posts
@MoreCoffee: I have a girl friend named Sunny and it fits her perfectly! It's a nice name.
persimmon / 1071 posts
@LuLu Mom: +1. me too! I love Willa/Willow, but DH doesn't because of how it sounds with our last name. Our last name has 'Will' in it.
cherry / 193 posts
Love Cleo for a girl but DH doesn't. Also Soren for a boy got vetoed because it means Soviet Union in DH's first language.
blogger / nectarine / 2600 posts
Bianca because DH hates it
Ella because its awful with our last name
honeydew / 7303 posts
Noah, Ethan, Dylan, Ian - we know too many of them!
Liam - sounds weird with our last name
Hannah - too close to dd's name
pear / 1672 posts
Ian - Name of an ex-boyfriend
Simone -love this name but can't stand this person
Grant - our last name ends with the same last three letters. I think it would look weird.
