Cameron graced us with his presence! We had his first birthday today, just a relaxed family only party. We went to brunch at one of our favorite breakfast places, then came home for presents, cake, and ice cream. I also put together a quick slide show of his weekly photos with his giant stuffed chicken. I am amazed I actually got all 52 photos!

I'm very relieved that we kept it low key, I don't know how we could have avoided a melt-down if it were any bigger than this! He had a nap before (while his bad, bad procrastinating parents ran out for his big gift (Fisher Price Zoo)... and visited 3 Wal-Marts to find it) and another nap after the cake smash and a mini-sugar high fit.

The things that were a hit- streamers! I made him a "birthday ball" (something my mom used to do for us growing up) where I wrapped some smaller toys in streamers for him to unravel. Seriously, one of my favorite things from growing up!

Also a hit- his new xylophone, he loves hitting everything with the mallet. Wooden blocks were another favorite, he spent considerable time knocking them over and throwing them at me! And our DIY ball pit- Target has 150 plastic balls on sale for $10, we poured them in his Pack & Play, and he was shrieking with joy!

What I wish I had done: Un-packaged his toys so he could play immediately- he loved the wrapping paper, but had zero patience for us freeing his new toys. Also I wish I had considered the background for his cake smash, and at least hung up a sheet behind him.

All in all, I am thrilled with the day and can't believe how fast this year has gone!
