Up. We aren't thrilled about it, but we knew it was coming long before the ACA was passed.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @shinymama: Which plans are you on? We've been on BC/BS Fed but we've really got to sit down and go through the numbers once DH's work calms down next week.

It hasn't affected our premium (that we know of at least).

I will say that my mother has been unable to obtain insurance due to a pre-existing condition. Due to the fact that she recently had gall stones, no company will insure her. It's ridiculous.

The ACA is her only hope of being insured. She is 59 y/o and it is imperative that she have insurance. So, in my book, it's a good thing.

Thankfully, my company has kept employee premiums the same for 2014, but they'll likely go up for 2015. I think our deductible and coinsurance has increased a bit.

Ours went up by 5%, but health care costs are always increasing, so this seems fairly normal.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: So same as us. We've loved it thus far! I guess it's number crunching time now.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: gotcha. We looked into that plan! We are in number crunching mode.

I'm another federal employee and my premium for self only would go up by about $4 per pay period...not sure what percentage that is. Out-of-pocket costs over and above the premium are the same as before. However, we're going to be switching to a family plan for 2014 so the premiums are going up a lot, but not due to the ACA (or just the normal increases that happen every single year, ACA or not).

ETA: I thought I'd seen something recently saying Feds would pay a 3.5% increase in premiums next year, but I'm not sure where that was. At any rate, that didn't strike me as being significantly more or less than other years.

It's saving us $180 per month

Our insurance is completely covered by my husband's former employer (the NFL) but in a couple years that will run out and we will switch to my employer's plan which is going up slightly this year.

My company's (BCBS) is staying exactly the same - no increase, no change in services. My husband's plan, which is the one we're on (United), is going up 1.8% - but his company pays the majority of the cost, so I'm not complaining.

I'm in state gov and my plan is staying the same. My husband is too. But I work in HR and it is turning into a logistc nightmare in regards to offering coverage to our contractors. Our budget is appropriate through legislation and we have not been appropriated those funds. Disaster

I don't think it has anything to do with ACA, since it has gone up a bit every year, but the family insurance we get through my job will be about $8 more per pay period.

I'm not upset tho... It's pretty great insurance. I paid $10 for all of my doctors visits, all ultrasounds and testing, labor, delivery, infant care and epidural for the birth of LO.

It has benefited us, as I will be insurable again (LO won't be a pre-existing condition staring Jan 1 under the individual BCBS plan I'm enrolling in). Taking the low-mid premium, low deductible/OOP plan for next year saves us TONS over me joining DH's plan (like, 10K by the time you add in the much higher OOP cost and the difference in premiums).

Thank goodness my employer is awesome and kept the group insurance they were going to cancel so that I could use my employer insurance from Aug when I turned 26 until Jan 1 comes around.

My previous employer had an extremely generous health plan. All premiums were paid by them! For years and years, I paid a grand total of $0 for my healthcare. I think in part due to the ACA (they were going to be charged the excise tax because it was a "Cadillac Plan") and in part due to rising healthcare costs overall, they revamped the entire healthcare benefit at the company. I am not happy about my individual situation, but overall I think the ACA is a good thing for the country.

The changes to health insurance have only benefited us so far! We have had our plan for the last 4 years- this is the first time it has not gone up significantly with each new fiscal year.

At this point in my first pregnancy (halfway), we had already paid $500 in prenatal care (toxo titer, 2 ultrasounds, plus the usual bloodwork)... this time we have paid $25 (toxo titer, 3 ultrasounds, CF testing, and NT scan, trisomy bloodwork, and the usual pregnancy bloodwork). Our coverage has only improved and pretty soon I will have a brand new double electric breast pump heading my way- saves us another $319 over last time!!

To me this country's insurance situation is abysmal and I am thrilled that there is finally something being done to change it and that there is a open dialogue about it.

@PurplePeony: I read that same stat on OPMs website. We looked at the site yesterday and I think it said they were proud to announce that they've steadily kept the increase at or below 4%.

Our (Federal BCBS) plan is basically the same - some increases, but that happens every year, and a lot of savings (yay, free breast pump and LC visits!). I try not to talk about my insurance much with non-Fed employees, though, because it's kind of unfair how amazing our benefits are (I wish everyone had access to Fed plans under the ACA).

But, for my patents, ACA is huge! They are both retired and have to buy their own insurance. For the past several years they have been paying absurd premiums for substandard care. I am thrilled that they are not able to buy an affordable, comprehensive plan.
