Acupuncture?

I'm interested in acupuncture too. I just noticed there is a practice next to my pilates studio. If we end up doing IVF I'll definitely look into it. Does anyone mind sharing how much they pay per session?

@macintosh: My insurance covers 24 sessions a year, so I just have to pay for my $20 copay.

I believe some clinic offer an sliding scale if you have to pay out of pocket.

@macintosh: I believe each weekly follow-up session was around $100 + $25 for 2 weeks of herbs. It was pricey! The first session was longer, so it was more expensive, but I don't remember how much. Also, my insurance covered the first $750 in acupuncture, and many other insurances cover it too.

@macintosh: Mine was $75 per session but I could actually use $$ from my health savings account.

I did it, and I credit my pregnancy with it. I wasn't getting my period, and I needed to in order to start our FET cycle. I told my acupuncturist this, she said, "Oh! OK, well this oughta do it!" and I got my period the next day. I figure that any sort of medicine that has been around for thousands of years has to have some credit to it.... that, and my insurance covered it.

@ mrs. pinata: Yes, if a BFP were to appear without treatment I'd be ecstatic!

@ mrs. someone and mrs. pinata: I need to read up a bit more on the kidney thing, it was strange! I might just be confused too! I'll ask her more specifically next time.

@ bluestriped bee: If you want to ask that would be great! I'd be curious to hear from another acupuncturist.

@ macintosh: Mine was $67 for the session but ended up being wayyyy more expensive due to all of these herbs she recommended. But it's a set fee of $67 per session.

@ meganmp: good for you! I'm willing to try most anything!

@winter_wonder: we've been trying for 7-8 months, and she thinks it's my kidneys! Google says traditional chinese medicine thinks it's usual kidneys or liver are responsible for ttc problems. I'm going to try to stick with it. I get 10 sessions a year at $35 copay through insurance. Weekly for first three weeks, then once a month to stretch my sessions, and $20 powder herbs which should last 1-2 months.

@dc yoga bee: very interesting! I never knew anything about the connection before. That's awesome that your insurance covers some of it!

@winter_wonder: I get acupuncture and my doctor is highly specialized in infertility and I've never heard of that? I would get your weekly treatments and take the herbs but I wouldn't stop BDing if it was me. I've heard of a lot of people getting pregnant after starting acupuncture so I wouldn't want to waste those possible months. Good luck!

    @macintosh: I pay 85 a session. Herbs are extra. It's very pricey!

I never heard about the kidneys being affected?!

I used it for my IVF cycle and loved it. I paid around $85 each time including tip for one session the day before transfer, one the day of (later that day). But I did community acupuncture for months leading up to my IVF cycle. That is only $15, and is a more generalized type, but still helped with relaxing.

@mrs. pincone316: I think we'll likely keep trying (but try to manage expectations-sooo much easier said than done)! Good luck to you as well!

@jenn23: I've heard several others talk about community acupuncture. This seems like a nice affordable option!

I started acupuncture treatments after 2+ years of not being able to get pregnant. I started every-other week treatments and was pregnant 3 months later. I really think it helped by regulating my cycles. I also credit it to warding off morning sickness and nausea.

I'm deathly afraid of needles and the idea of lying on a bed with numerous needles was not my idea of fun, but that's how convinced I was that acupuncture was worth pursuing.

I should add, however, that it did nothing when I went in for treatments in an effort to induce labor. I had 3 treatments (at every other day intervals) at 41 weeks and nada.

That said, I'm still a big believer in it. My advice would be to seek an acupuncturist who specializes in fertility/women's issues
