Has it been proven that acupuncture can help fertility? Would you bees recommend it? I am horribly afraid of needles, so getting pricked with pins all over scare the crap out of me. Where do they put it? Does it hurt? I haven't started looking at what the cost it. Should I invest in that or massage therapy?
Any other suggestions welcome!

I really liked going to acupuncture. You lie on the table and don't even see or feel the needles go in for the most part. I got pregnant in a month and a half of going, though my story is much more complicated.

I've done acupuncture for other issues and although it didn't help those ailments, I found it helped me relax and to get better quality of sleep. I just like having an hour of time blocked out for myself so I can focus on me/my health, whether it's yoga, massage, etc.
Please report back on fertility acupuncture if you decide to do it, I'm intrigued!!

also - really stupid question. Cost-wise, does more expensive = better? There are two places nearby, one charges $55/visit, and the other $130..

@babycanuck: I go once a week, and you can't feel the needles. I think price varies, but I don't think higher cost better experience. I would try to find someone that has dealt with fertility before and really takes the time to talk to you. My acu charges $85 a session. Our first session we talked for the first hour and she asked me all about my life from birth until now. I feel like we have a relationship and she truly understands my body and my needs.

I go to accupunture almost every week. My insurance covers it so I just have to pay for the copay of $20 each time I go.
Compared to other fertility treatments, $80 a month isn't that bad. It helps me relax and I feel so much better when I leave.

@babycanuck: I went weekly to an acupuncturist that specializes in fertility. She also had be on Chinese herbs. Things definitely got better, but I found out I had other issues after I stopped going.
I don't think more money = better, but definitely do your research and make sure whoever you go to has good reviews. Also, your insurance might cover some or all of it!

@babycanuck: I don't mind sharing at all! Feel free to ask anything you're curious about. We had been trying for about 8 months before I started going. Got pregnant month 9, had a m/c. Then 3 (?) more months trying didn't work so I stopped because it was expensive (and she had me doing a LOT of other things that ended up being stressful).

@Mrs.Someone - I'm tempted to start this weekend (haha) but I think I will wait until next week when I speak with my doctor, she if she is going to refer DH to have testing done and hopefully me to a fertility clinic of some sort. Once I talk to her I think I'm going to try it whether I get a referral or not. My cycles are 28 days, I ovulate exactly halfway through, I just can't get KU.

I know someone who was going for bowel problems but because they're in the same vicinity, got pregnant too!
I did chiropractic care to get my bfp after our m/c. Definitely recommend.

I am super scared of needles too but I saw an acupuncturist when my LO was past her due date and my OB was going to induce. So I figured I'd give it a shot and it wasnt painful at all! I didn't even know the needles were going in. Unfortunately it didn't help me start labor!

@babycanuck: i know what you mean about the needles...but you really cant feel them...i went to go and see a accupunturist who knew how to treat to help with fertility...my first meeting with her she told me to give her three months/ cycles, i got my BFP on the first cycle and am currently 26w4d...i swear by it...and also feel the benefit out weighed my fear!!!

@babycanuck: i had my implanon removed late June 2012 and got a BFP July 2012, but had a miscarriage in August 2012, we started trying when AF came back...got my current BFP in April 2013....and he is currently cooking in the slow cooker...

I have a friend who had four miscarriages when trying to conceive baby #2. After the fourth loss, she started seeing an acupuncturist who said it would take three months to prepare her body. 3 months later she got pregnant and just delivered a healthy baby. I have had two miscarriages this year while trying for #2. I started going about 6 weeks ago to a different acupuncturist who also said she usually wants three months.
Though she told me I shouldn't wait because of my age. Anyhow, I am now 4.5 weeks pregnant. Getting pregnant does not appear to be my issue though, so we have awhile to go before I can declare success. A lot of REs recommend accupuncture. The needles are tiny and don't go in deep. For most of them, I don't even feel it. For the ones I do feel, it does not hurt. Mine specializes in fertility issues and is $85 per visit (once a week). It is not cheap, but I have to feel like I am doing something to get a different outcome.

I had two miscarriages and went to acupuncture who specialized in women's fertility/health. I went once a week for about 3 months, took herbs, and got pregnant about a month after my treatment was over. The needles don't hurt at all. They are super tiny and you barely feel them. It was quite relaxing laying there. Sometimes I would fall asleep. I paid $75 per session (I live in Southern California.)

Alright ladies - I scheduled a first consultation next Friday. Hopefully by then I'll also have some test results from my doctor and maybe a requisition for DH to get his swimmers tested. I think this is good either way, I need help relaxing sometimes!

For you ladies who saw one for fertility issues, how did you find them? Doc referral? Online? Other way? I'm curious now.... we had a m/c in July and if we don't get pregnant on this cycle (#5) I want to consider some other things to help...

@NorCalWayfarer: I think it also depends. My regular ob/gyn won't run tests until its been a year of TTC. I think the fact that you're only on cycle 5 and had a m/c (which they often take as a sign that you can get pregnant), might prevent a lot of doctors from taking action so soon.

@LindsayInNY: oh yeah they for sure said 2 mc or 1 year of trying before any medical intervention. Doc said mc was good in that it shows I can get pregnant. And acupuncture isn't covered by my insurance anyways. I was just curious to try some alt methods. Right now I'm focusing on diet and exercise. Next might be massage/acupuncture. We shall see!

Today was the day!! I LOVE IT!! I have two appointments next week - it helps that the Dr doing it is super nice AND super cute (hello!) but it felt amazing. He wants me to come in twice a week for a few weeks, then reassess how I'm doing.
