I’ve read about how ADHD often presents differently in girls and is overlooked because it often isn’t the typical wild boy behavior people think of. I’ve also been suspecting it for my older daughter for a while since reading about it. She’s 5 now and is having more trouble in school instead of less. I have another meeting with her school tomorrow, and they are going to talk about getting her evaluated through the local school system, though I’m not actually sure for what (hence the meeting, to clarify). She was eligible for K this year but I held her for emotional maturity reasons so she’s in a private junior k class.

But I am curious if anyone has gone through the diagnosis or evaluation process for their LO- especially if you have a girl. At what age was it suspected and at what age was it diagnosed? What were the first treatment recommendations. I assume at this young age they wouldn’t generally prescribe drugs yet.

My primary concerns with my girl are her inability to focus, impulse control, and generally being loud and disrupting her whole class even with repeated reminders. And explosive temper tantrums, mostly at home but occasionally at school. Other kids at school are getting frustrated with her in addition to the teacher. Not to mention, she isn’t exactly a walk in the park at home... even during activities she loves she sometimes just sort of shuts down and will flop on the ground or run around acting silly, distracting the entire class.

It’s exhausting. And it’s affecting her as well as those around her so I’m hoping we can figure out a way to help her.
