We are throwing my DD her 1st birthday party at a rec center nearby because our house is too small. I need ideas for things that are easily transportable and probably cold because I'm not sure what outlets are available. We are also going out to a local bbq place for dinner right afterwards so I don't need a ton of stuff, but I'm just not a food person when it comes to parties. The party is from 330-5pm and is a sweetheart theme if that makes a difference. My mil is bringing fruit kabobs and a cheese and cracker tray. We are also having a sweets table!

veggies and dip? tortilla chips with various dips (salsa, guac, bean salad, etc)? If you want to get fancier you could do caprese kabobs with mini mozz, grape tomatoes, and basil drizzled with pesto or evoo/balsalmic. and/or you could do cold cheese tortillini skewers or add those to the caprese skewers. Or you could just do a cold tortillini salad with pesto (realizing i'm spelling that wrong and too lazy to look it up... sorry lol).

@Mae: Oooh, great idea! Love the caprese skewers. Tortellini is great too! Love it. I just mentioned to DH that we could do chips/dips but I'm hesitant because we need to leave the room as we found it, including sweeping and spot mopping. Ugh. Ain't nobody got time for that!
Eta, forgot to say that the chips might be too messy!

A really easy thing is you take flour tortillas, spread onion and chive cream cheese on them, then put deli turkey meat on them. Roll them up and slice them. They make a great sort of bite sized almost sandwich thing. And they aren't messy
Cold shrimp cocktail is always good at a party. I like deviled eggs, personally. So if you have a big tray of ice, these can go together.
Another food-on-a-stick idea is sausage, cheese, and olives. Maybe not super kid friendly, but sausage and cheese is! or even pepperoni?

@blackbird: I was thinking of doing pinwheels too. Yours sounds super easy! Definitely a plus.
Deviled eggs and shrimp are good ideas too, but I don't know if I want to deal with those.
I love food on a stick! haha. Maybe everything can be on a stick!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Yeah, you're right. Keeping it light is definitely a must. No one wants to be full when delicious BBQ is for dinner!
This is the room. It's just the dance room. I'm getting like, 3 dozen balloons to anchor the food, present, sweets, game tables. I'm going to do a streamer curtain behind each table. A doily happy birthday banner. A doily picture banner for months 1-12. I'm using red plastic tablecloths to swag the ballet bars and use doilies/hearts at each pick up. I have a heart garland that I made that will go in the doorway as a curtain, haha. Like a beaded curtain of hearts. It'll be a valentine explosion!
I'm also going to have a lady bug play tent/tunnel in the room with some toys inside for the couple of kids that are coming.

Lots of dips! We're doing something similar in that we got a rec room and are having a party in the afternoon. Could you also keep some items warm in a crock pot? We're doing tailgate themed food and planning to bring some crock pots for pulled pork sandwiches and warm dips.

@MrsKoala: Crock pot might work. I might stay away from dips because of the crumb factor. I want to minimize clean up because i want to leave and go eat BBQ, haha.
