My DD will be 8 months in 3 days. She's still not crawling. I have to admit that I've never been great with tummy time because she's never liked it. She spends much more time in her exersaucer or jumper than she does on the floor. If she IS on the floor, she's sitting. When we put her on her tummy, she whimpers and sometimes cries, so we don't do it much. She isn't scooting or anything either. I'm getting really worried. Does anyone have advice or has had the same experience? Thank you.

DS didn't start crawling until almost 10 months. It was not too long before that the he even scooted or anything.

8 months is not late to be crawling. My LO crawled a few days after she turned 8 mo and our doctor acted liked that was early. Tons of kids crawl later or not at all. I have a good friend whose son never crawled. He started walking around 13 mo and never crawled before and at 3 he's just fine. Seriously this is not something to stress about at all.ETA: Even though it would be fine if she was actually late with all of these things (which I don't think 8 mo is late)... she also might surprise you and do things quickly. My LO didn't roll until 5+ mo, didn't sit independently until 7.5 mo then was crawling at 8 mo, standing independently without holding onto anything at 8.5 mo, trying to walk by 9mo, and walking pretty well by 10mo. She got a late start but then did ALL THE THINGS very fast. I have like.. many gray hairs haha.

I definitely wouldn't worry that your LO isn't crawling yet. But I would try to focus on more time on the floor/on her tummy to help her get comfortable.

Oh, don't worry about it! She has time. My son didn't start crawling until he was about 8.5 months old and he was full on walking/running everywhere a month later.

My son also hated yummy time. He didn't really start crawling until 9 or 10 months, then immediately started walking after that! I wouldn't worry at 8 months.

I got stressed about that with my son at 8 months and brought it up at the 9 month well visit. We agreed if there was no improvement at 10 months that we would do an evaluation and he did end up qualifying for physical therapy. But you still have 2 months until it's to he point where we looked into it! Do you feel like her sitting / core strength is strong?

My son army crawled at 9 months and real crawled at 10 months. Now he sprints every where! 8 months is fine no crawling

My guy crawled at 9 month, didn't stand until about 10 month, cruised at 11 month, and didn't start walking unassisted until 13.5 months. I have stressed at every step of the way seeing other babies his age or younger meeting those milestones. But you know what? He has done everything in his own timeline and consistently shown improvements once he got mobile, so it was a waste of energy to worry about!
it's hard not to analyze the progress, but in most cases, it just has to do with the babies motivation. I think my guy has just been lazy ETA: my doctor was 0% concerned. And when he wasn't walking yet at 12 month still was 0% concerned until 15 month.

Umm, when my son started crawling at 7.5mos, everyone told me he was early. So I doubt you have anything to worry about developmentally.

I sucked at tummy time (and she hated it) and my baby never learned how to crawl. She sat at 6 months and walked right at 12 months, and now at 2 can crawl just fine, lol.

My boys hated tummy time. They both crawled around 9/10 months.

DD hated tummy time from the beginning (and because of that, I was horrible at making her do it). She didn't start crawling until 11 months and then about a week later she was wanting to walk everywhere. I was starting to get nervous but I just tried to tell myself that she was just taking her time and everything would be fine

8 months isn't late. I wouldn't worry at all.

My LO did fine with tummy time and didn't crawl until almost 9 mo, totally normal range still. She did have this crazy butt hop-scootch she did while sitting though! I was thankful she wasn't an early crawler! So much trickier now, she's a speed demon. Just learned to walk this week @11.5 mo.

My son started army crawling at 8.5 months and a week before he turned 9 months (so, like, a week later) he started crawling all around the house, pulling himself up to stand, etc. He hit about 3-4 milestones within a week. Point being, at 8 months I started to get a little worried and then he, in his own time, did everything at once! She'll get there!!

Maybe more floor time if you're worried about that but developmentally it still seems normal. At that age dd rolled across the room.

Average is 9 months - and that's just average! Half as many after that. Also some babies skip crawling. It's not an important developmental milestone like rolling or sitting up.

I wouldn't sweat it. One of my twins hated tummy time but loved it with a little pillow tucked under his chest. Also, we had a full-length mirror laid horizontally along the wall where they did tummy/floor time and I really think it sped up their desire to crawl--I put it up at about 8 months old I think? I think they crawled at 9-10 months. Walked at 15. No need to hurry. But I would encourage more "independent" time spent, free to move on the floor. Even on the back--babies just need to figure out their bodies!

I would do more floor time if possible just to give her freedom of movement (not necessarily on the tummy though) - but I wouldn't worry at all. My DS didn't crawl til nearly 10 months - he didn't even roll back to front until 7.5 months. He was walking at 13 months and has no physical issues at all

Crawling is actually not a developmental milestone. There are lots of babies that actually never crawl - they go straight to standing and walking. But in any case, as everyone has said, don't worry about your lo not being there yet - worry about all the stuff that you're going to have to move once they DO start crawling!

Xander didn't crawl until 9.5 months. And Logan is currently 9.5 months and not crawling yet. And some kids skip crawling altogether!

I think, as with everything, children develop on their own curve. It's hard though, when you are in the trenches to not compare or worry that your kid is behind.
It was critical for me to try and get that mindset under control though, rather than focus on the timing of my child doing things.

Bottom line, don't stress! Crawling isn't necessarily a milestone and I think 8 months is only the average. It can happen a lot earlier and later and still be considered "normal".
Spend more time on the floor and place some favorite objects a foot or two away. That's how we got my son to do it. And he started right around 8 months. Not without some worrying on my own! I was assured there is nothing to worry about.

My LO took her first "crawl step" a week before her 8 month birthday. It didn't seem early or late to me either way - I wouldn't worry!

My LO never crawled in the traditional sense until after he could already walk, it just wasn't his thing. Now he can do both (13 months) but walking was always his priority, he preferred standing and his exersaucer. Don't worry - every kid does things at their own pace and they all end up at the same place eventually

My LO took his first steps before he crawled properly. He didn't even army crawl until he was 11 months! He also hated tummy time and had no interest in it. I had him in Gymboree at the time, and I was feeling like I did something wrong, because all of the other kids his age were crawling so well. I had EI come out and evaluate him right before he started army crawling, and they weren't concerned at all! He only crawled for a short while before he was walking unassisted. Try not to stress!

That's not late at all. DS crawled at 8.5 months and I considered that average. Immediately after he was trying to climb the stairs and cruising.

I found that the little pillow that came with his baby gym worked really well. I put it under his chest, and it helped him learn to push up.
You can also do tummy time with the baby on top of you instead of on the floor.
